I switched to Blue Cross PPO Prudent Buyer Plan effective January 1, 2000. I immediately started the process with Dr. Wittgrove at Alvarado Medical Center. I was approved in 5 days after Dr. Wittgrove's office submitted my letter. My surgery was February 29th. I had the laproscopic RnY. Everything went perfect and as of this writing, two weeks post op, I am down 26 pounds! Dr. Wittgrove is an absolute marvel and a very kind person as well. The only thing I did not like was the drainage tube that I had to wear for a week after surgery.

I didn't deal with my insurance company at all. Dr. Wittgrove's office did all of the leg work and I was approved in under a week's time. They are, unfortunately, not the best "payers" out of all of the insurance companies. I am stuck with about $6,500/$8,000 worth of bills after the surgery. Although, when it all pans out I think my surgery cost almost $60,000 so my portion isn't that bad!
