I am married to a great husband who likes me fat or thin. I am a foster parent and have adopted my soon to be 3 year old girl. I have another foster (hope to adopt)child who is 11 months old. I got him when he was 2 days old. We also have 4 dogs. My main interest is my family and first of all my Lord. Without Jesus, I have nothing.
I am currently 37 years old at 266 lbs and 5'7" tall. I have a family history of numerous cancers, diabetes and heart problems. I am extremely concerned about the health risks involved with my obesity. I have been looking at this surgery for 2 years and have made the plunge to do it. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis last year and I know I have to get this weight off to feel better. I am going to take control of my life.

Well I have a date!!!! I can't believe this is here! It is scheduled for May 21st. I am so excited. I have called everyone I know, LOL. I am NOT looking forward to the actual surgery though. I do terribly when I am under general anesthesia. My blood pressure drops and then I am soooooooo sick. But it will be worth it all!

Okay went for my preop. We had a group session with our therapist(Dr. Applegate). We had a group session with our surgeon (Dr. Aurora Pryor). Then a one on one with the surgeon. A visit with the nutritionist and then a trip to the hospital for some xrays, blood work, urinalysis and interview with the anesthesia team. Yes, thats right ladies and gentlemen, I spent half a day doing all of this. It is a 4 hour drive to the WLS center from my house so it was a LOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNG day. My hubby, God bless him, drove me.
I think that our group session with the therapist went well. LOL. I think Terri and I were cause for her concern!!! We were a "little" excited and just maaaaaybeee it showed..Durham Regional may never be the same after they've had the both of us in one day.
The anesthesia team member wants me to make sure to take my asthma medicine EVERYDAY. Apparently there is some concern about my lungs collapsing after surgery. UMMMMMMMM okay.....im not nervous.........REALLY.

Okay probably my last post before surgery. I am still nervous. I havent taken my asthma medicine like I was supposed to. I have taken my Prilosec like the doctor ordered. Not sure why she did. I dont have any acid reflux but I think its supposed to keep you from aspirating during and after surgery. That way noooo pneumonia, which sounds good to me. I cant wait for the new me. I am sick of this one...
My mom has not been my best support! I was going to buy a size 11 dress as an incentive and she says "You are wasting your money! You are never going to be small enough to fit into that!"
So anyway thats where I am now. I will post again after I get home from the hospital.

Surgeon: Aurora Pryor
Dr. Pryor is very engaging and pleasant from your first impression. But after talking at length with her and meeting with her, she is just so informative and down to earth she is more like a friend from college than my doctor. I was very impressed. She was to the point, blunt and has a good sense of humor. I love that in a health care professional!! My surgery went beautifully. She did GREAT work on my belly! Scars are almost completely gone only 6 weeks after surgery! Duke WLS are very staunch about aftercare including regular return visits and psychiatric care. I think that is why they have such great success. 5 STARS ***** Dr. Pryor. Thanks for my new life!!
Insurer Info:
Blue Cross Blue Shield, Federal Employees Program
BCBS has been a great insurer. No problems they have paid on everything and have given me absolutely no hassles. I was approved after 2 days.
