Surgery was 6-30-99. Surgery & Recovery went very well -- I would encourage anyone who has tried and tried to reach and maintain a normal weight, without success, to take this step. It is not without effort on my part, but I now feel that I can reach and achieve a comfortable weight.
I am now 5-1/2 months post-op. My weight has gone from 244 to 190 and I feel great -- other than this week I did have to have surgery to repair two incisional hernias -- ouch! back to wearing the binder! My advice to all pre-ops, take the lifting restrictions very seriously. One hernia was fist size and the other the width of three fingers. I don't know what caused these hernias to occur, but I must have done too much, too soon.
Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Thomas Batay-Csorba, M.D.
Dr. Batay-Csorba is very knowledgeable and was willing to thoroughly answer any questions which I asked him before or after surgery. He thoroughly explained the procedure, risks involved, etc.
Insurer Info:
MI Blue Cross, Traditional
I had no problem with approval. I had plenty of physician documentation regarding previous weight loss attempts and failure at maintaining weight loss. My physician wrote a letter recommending the surgery and outlining all previous attempts, amounts lost, exercise involved, etc.
