Hi Bj, I saw your posting tonight about being 2 weeks post op and feeling normal. I am 3-weeks post op today, surgery date 6/20. I too feel almost completely normal, I have "cheated" on 4th of July and tried some foods like a pretzel, and an oreo cookie, shrimp, and a deviled egg, nothing bothered me. I know it was not good to try these things, there could be damage done, that is why it's called the "eating for healing" stage. You don't get solids until the "eating for life" stage. It's easy to think, well since it didn't make me sick, than it's okay to eat it phase....I've gotten out of it, it's not easy, but I don't won't to end up back in the hospital either. Sorry, I don't want to sound like I'm lecturing you, but for me I've decided solid food is just not worth hurting yourself over. I went to my 2 week check up on 7/9 (surgeon was on vacation last week). I told the nutrionist I feel so good that I was beginning to wonder if the surgeon actually did surgery and not just cut me open and that the whole process was all psychological, her response was "that is how you should feel, it is very common to feel that way". By the way, I started pureed foods today and as far as food variety goes, you can eat anything as long as you blend it......blended food looks nasty, but sure taste good...hahaha :-) Good luck to you!!

Hi BJ, I know you are in the hospital today, and I bet if it were at all possible you would be doing the schick-a-boom schick-a-boom dance, because you made it to the "other side". I am so totally thrilled for you! I am sorry I did not get to e-mail you back directly BEFORE today... BUT I just know you are going to be so happy!!! I cant wait until you are back home and feel up to letting us know how the heck you are!!! ((((((((BIG HUGE **gentle** HUGS))))))

Well B.J., today is your day. I have faith that your recovery will go smoothly! Welcome to the other side! Take care of yourself. Remember to walk, take your vitamins, and sip, sip, sip. Your WLS bud.

Dear BJ, I am sooooo nervous myself, as I am sure you are. I think it really helps to reach out. I even made myself a CD with encouraging songs on it like, Angel by Sarah McLaughlin, and Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. Just think good possitive thoughts. It will be interesting to keep up with your progress since our dates are so close. I am looking forward to a new life as I am sure you are. Just remember it is all smooth sailing after everything is said and done. I have had quite a few friends say the pain is bad, but remember, it only lasts for a few days and every bit of it is worth it. I hope that the nice drugs work for you and it is very smooth sailing from here on out. You can handle it like a breeze, you came this far, and from what I understand, the waiting for an insurance approval, getting all paperwork in, and getting a date scheduled is harder than the actual surgery. Take care of yourself! I wish you a speedy recovery. Remember to get someone to update us on how you are doing. :-) -Mary Western Conway SC Pre-op- 284 BMI 43 Surgery date 7/8/02
