I went to my first session for weight loss at Hurley Weight Loss Cente in April 2002. After that I set out and my appointment for the psychiatric evaluation. Boy, getting the results seemed to take forever. Hey, they diddn't even lock me up. Once that was turned in Hurley did the rest, applied to Blue Cross and within about 3-4 weeks I got the ok. Horay!
Then I had to hurry up and wait for a date. They kept telling me it would probably be next year. Then a week ago I got THE call. My surgery date is October 17, 2002. My stomach suddenly flew to my throat. I got over the worst of it by the next day. Just getting used to the reality. Well, we'll see what happens.
My Surgery date was rescheduled for Nov. 14. Word of Warning for all who go through this surgery .... Do not go into it constipated. I did. I went into surgery constipated, came out of surgery constipated, left the hospital on the 4th day constipated, and 4 days after going home I landed back in the hospital because of being constipated. If I had not been constipated I would have never have ended up going back into the hospital.

I am now 2 months post op & doing fine. I think I have lost about 40 lbs.
The doctor that is listed for me in the profile is not correct. My doctor was Dr. Farouck Obeid from Hurley Medical Center In Flint Michigan. What a wonderful caring doctor he turned out to be.

    Surgeon Info:
My Doctors name is Dr. Farouck Obeid in Flint Michigan at Hurley Medical Center. My first impression was he was somewhat abrupt and I got the impression I may have been answering questions wrong. My impression changed however aftertalking to a group of other newly introduced people anticipating having surgery. I knew he was running very late for going out of town and yet the meeting is part of the full day regeimn. Yet he said that if after he explained the entire procedure and what to expect if we had any questions, fire away. Well, he explained everything so very thoroughly that there were very few questions. He was very carful to explain the many risks of surgery as well as what can sometimes happen afterward. His office staff was nice and helpful. I'm not sure about the aftercare program. I'm hoping we'll get a lot of written information but that may come in the near future. I want surgical competence and a good bedside manner.
