I'm a 42 year old female who has been battling weight loss for as long as I can remember.
I've tried every weight loss and exercise program available to me.

I want to feel good about myself and to feel healthy. I'm just beginning the journey to WLS.

7/13/01 - Lap RNY scheduled for July 30th. Am anxiously excited about this leap of faith!!

8/31/01 - Everything went well. Was in my hospital room for only 36 hours before being
released. Even Lap RNY is considered MAJOR surgery, so I needed to be careful and
patient with the healing process. It becomes a fulltime job to make sure you get all the
nutrients you are supposed to be having, as well as all the water. Am starting to feel
much better and definitely healthier already!! After 3 weeks I had lost 26 lbs. Woohoo!

9/21/01 - Went to dr. this week. Down 35 lbs. in 7 weeks. I am thrilled. The change I
felt from Week 5 on was unbelievable. I feel like my old self. Not tired all the time. No
pain in my side. I cannot believe what a difference this surgery has made already. I am
told my snoring has stopped (that was really embarrassing for me). My doc told me
that if I would just lose 50 lbs. my sleep apnea would be cured and I wouldn't need
oxygen. I'm almost there. I know it's an attainable goal for me.

No one will believe this -- but I have NOT thrown up once since my surgery! There have
been a couple of times I wished I could -- but nothing happened. I did eat part of a
barbeque sandwich over Labor Day weekend and had the dumping syndrome. It really
feels like the flu and lasted for 2 hours! No more barbeque for me.

If you are contemplating this surgery, it is so important to talk to people that have
had exactly the same type, even better if it's the same surgeon and same hospital.
That really lets you know what to expect.

My port owies are like badges of honor I wear on my tummy now. I show them to
anyone that wants to see.

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Stephen Marshall, M.D.
He is an excellent surgeon. His office staff is top-notch. I especially enjoyed working with Matt, who is the most competent person I have had the privilege of working with. Dr. Marshall was on-call the day of my surgery. It was scheduled for 9 a.m., which meant I needed to be at the hospital by 7 a.m. He had 3 emergency surgeries and it was 5 pm before he got to me. What a long day! He has a very structured after care plan and hospital staff are at your bedside daily to help with questions and to provide written information. Dr. Marshall has a great bedside manner. He did try to be funny though when I really wasn't feeling like laughing. He has very competent senior residents that take good care of you also. They visited twice daily. I was very pleased with the quality of care I received.
