9.17.02
Completed all pre-op tests and waiting to hear from PacifiCare if they will approve an Out Of Network referral for Dr. Fisher in Las Vegas.

9.23.02
Today I scheduled an OC (Office Consultation) with Dr. Fisher's office. Nothing new from PacifiCare at this point, but I am hopeful that they will pay the majority of it. My appointment is for 10.29.02, which is much sooner than I had expected. They tell you to plan on 30 - 60 days.

10.1.02
Dr. Fisher's office has moved my OC to 10.17.02, which makes me very happy.

10.10.02
My surgery is scheduled for 12.9.02. My OC appointment was moved up again so I saw Dr. Fisher yesterday. Everything went great.

12.6.02
Today I received authorization from PacifiCare. I believe that it was a miracle and due on the most part to Shannon at Dr. Fisher's office and to Dr. Fisher himself. I cannot praise them enough.

1.1.03
Well I am three weeks Post OP now. Things are going very well. The surgery went smoothly, and so did the healing. I had a problem with pain due to some fluid, but since that has drained everything is great. I am extremely tired and having difficulty wanting to eat anything. I am actually experiencing a bit of hunger - due to the fact I don't want to eat I'm sure. I have been very strict about what I will and will not eat. It isn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I haven't gotten sick at all. The only problem is the fatigue.

2.10.03
Two months out now - down 44 pounds. Feeling absolutely great.

3.31.03
Down 63 pounds today - the weight hadn't moved in over a week. I've been very moody and irritable because of that. Finally I have dropped three pounds in the past two days. Need to keep going. I don't really like the slow down - but at least it is still moving.

5.29.03
Today I am down 83 pounds. How crazy is that. Not quite six months. The hair loss has been ridiculous. But still worth it. I have always had great hair, but it is getting pretty thin. It is nice to feel like I can get into a swim suit and play in the pool with my son. It is going to be a fun summer.

2.13.04
I thought that I would do an update. I am 99 pounds down. It is great. My weight plateaud for nearly four basically four months. I had to really kick myself in the rear to get going again and I have lost 7 pounds this month. It is good. I feel good and I look good. I have just moved and nobody knows the pre-WLS me and it feels good to know that people can't imagine or see that part of me. Proud of what I have done. Life is good. I think that I will post photos soon. I haven't done that before, but I know what an inspiration it was to me.

9.7.07
Nearly five years out now. I am still at about the same weight, however I have had a baby since then. The birth was a breeze and I was able to take all the weight off within about six months. Half went within the first two weeks and then the other half took a little while. i was breast feeding, so I had to be conscious of my diet.

I am good. Since the birth of my baby I have had a tummy tuck/breast lift & augmentation/and liposuction. I also had my by pass scar revised. It was horrible. I opted to have a open gastric bypass - the laproscopic procedure scared me. I scarred horrible but it was worth it. The new scar is better, but I do suggest that people have the lap procedure.

I am seriously considering a thigh lift within the next year.

Anyway...after nearly five years, everything is great. I do have to really watch my weight or I will start to drift up. That's okay though. I feel normal now. Everyone should watch their weight. I weigh every single day. I don't want something to catch me by surprise. I have a range that I stay in - I don't ever let myself get above it. It works for me.

    Surgeon Info:
    Surgeon: Barry L. Fisher M.D.
Dr. Fisher comes highly recommended and I immediately understood why. He is sensitive to the condition and knowledgable as to the emotional background of a very physical problem. I have found his staff very professional and helpful. I am very pleased that he will be performing my surgery and look foward to the aftercare relationship.
    Insurer Info:
    Pacificare of Nevada
PacifiCare is infamous for having problems. Both my PCP and the Surgeon have had difficulties with them in the past. Supposedly they are trying to remedy their reputation and I am hoping to reap the benefits. I have been very honest with them with each step I take. They continue to tell me that if my PCP refers me to Dr. Fisher in Las Vegas, and since they do not have a local WLS provider, that they will give me an out-of-network referral. We'll see. 10.10.02 Dr. Fishers office informs me that Pacificare is willing to pay the Hospital and associated costs however they have not yet agreed upon Dr. Fishers costs. UPDATE: 12.6.02 PacifiCare has approved all hospital and anesthesia costs. I have paid Dr. Fisher's office upfront and will seek reimbursement after the surgery. I have no idea what the amount will be. 4.11.03 I submitted reimbursement to Pacificare at the first of February for $6000, which is the amount that I paid Dr. Fisher and Dr. Atkinson. I called Pacificare I they told me that they reimbursed at 100% on 3/14/03 - however they sent it to the surgeons, which should have come to me. Someone at the office had filled out all the paperwork for me and they had indicated that it should go to their office. Anyway - I talked to the office and they said that they would send me a check - they are very back logged. 5.2.03 After a billion calls I finally got Dr. Fisher's office to reimburse me. Love Dr. Fisher - but he really has an office staff problem at times. ANYWAY - good news is that Pacificare paid EVERYTHING - I just paid my $300 deductable. Not bad I'd say - especially since Dr. Fisher is not a provider. VERY PLEASED HERE!!!
