04/18/02 ~ Today I had my visit with Dr. Deveney at OHSU. I was greeted by a very helpful nurse who took my vitals and we joked about which one of us was older. She beat me by a few years. She stayed and we visited a bit about our children she was very nice. A very young (to me) surgical resident came in and went over my health history and she did a physical. (I will call her Dr. F. as I cannot remember her name.) She said that she thought that I would be an good candidate for the WLS. She went out and about a minute later she came back with Dr. Deveney he shook my hand and he said he reviewed my health and physical with Dr. F. He carefully explained the two surgeries offered at OHSU as the RNY and BPD/DS and the differences between them. I pointed to the BPD/DS and said that it was the one I wanted. He seemed surprised that already knew about the surgeries and I said that "The Internet is a wonderful thing." They left together and would submit my information to my insurer. Dr. Deveney came back to give me his card with his email address. He wanted the urls for WLS websites.
So now I'm patiently waiting until I hear back from the Physician's office for my surgery date. I told Dr. Deveney that I cleared my calendar for the months of July and August. He felt that it was a very reasonable timeframe till the surgery could be coordinated.

03/12/02 ~ This afternoon I received a telephone call from the Surgeon's office. I have an appointment with Dr. Deveney on April 18 at 1:00 in the afternoon. WOW!!! I can't wait!!

02/28/02 ~ I saw my Dr. & he is referring me to surgeon of my choice WOW am I pumped. I've chosen Dr McConnell from OHSU Hospital in Portland. When I spoke to his office yesterday I was told what they needed paperwork wise. They also said that Dr McConnell is booked up till December. There is his associate Dr Deveney who is booking this April. I want to wait until Karen has her date set before I get serious and make an appointment.

02/21/02 ~ Starting something new is always exciting at least for a while. Then there are the little roadblocks and bumps in the road that you encounter. Taking the first steps to losing 100 pounds is something I've started and failed for a good share of my life. I'm happy to be referred to this website and am ecstatic to find all my new sisters here. My adult daughter Karen has already started her voyage. She has found her surgeon and received approval from her Insurance company. I have an appointment with my Primary Care Provider on Feb 27, 2002.
I know exactly how he will react and that will be negatively. You see my Primary Care Provider is also my supervisor at work. I know his philosophy about weight loss Ive listened to it so many times I could quote verbatim. Eat less and Exercise! duh
.. However I need to talk him into this surgery somehow. Ive been reading the messages on these web pages with great enthusiasm and hope to be posting regularly
