Surgery date was June 11, 2001. Down 83 lbs. so far and feeling fantastic. Did not know how bad I really felt until I started feeling better. surgeon was Dr. Ronald Clements, at the time of surgery he as at Norwood Clinic in Birmingham, but has since moved to UAB, Kirkland Clinic. Would recommend Dr. Clements whole-heartedly. A great surgeon... not only was he patient in asnswering all of my questions pre-op, but he has been there for me post-op as well. Know this surgery is not for everyone, but it has been a blessing in my life. I am greatful everyday for getting my life back. Would do this again in a minute. If I never lose another pound I will still be glad I did this. Willing to help local folks who might be considering surgery. Please e-mail if I can be of any assistance.
August 14, 2002- Down a total of 106 lbs. most of this came off in the first nine months. Been maintaining the loss since then. Looking good and feeling even better!
March 11, 2003- Maintaining weight loss. Truly a miracle. Still not happy about shopping for clothes. Can't seem to find the right look for the new me. Was much easier living off the charity of my good friends who gave me clothes as I came into their weight ranges. Oh well.. a good problem to have I guess. Certainly better than not being able to find clothes at all. My best to all, whatever stage in the game you are in.
Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Ronald H. Clements, M.D.
Dr. Clements was obvioulsy very busy, alot of appointments, but spent 45-50 minutes with me answering questions. Liked him immediately.
Impression over time only proved my first impression to be correct.. and more so.
Office staff on the other hand, not so much. Don't know if it is because they are so swamped or what, but difficult to talk to a person, leave lots of messages. Maybe they just need more office staff? Just my experience.
Just started support group in July. Stressed aftercare followups with him big time during all of my check ups. Says those who follow up are more likely to keep weight off.
Addressed risks of surgery during initial consult and subsequent visit (after BCBS approval).
I would rate Dr. Clements as excellent overall. Had one or two concerns about diet, nausea, early out and he took the time to call me back himself, which I really appreciated. Stresses that I should consult with him before any major health issues/ other surgery, because not all docs. understand WLS. I have no problem consulting him... very pleased overall. I think I could have gotten in quicker with another surgeon.. but am so glad I waited for Dr.Clements.
