Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Thomas Batay-Csorba, M.D.
Dr. Batay-Csorba seems to be very thorough and knowledgable about RnY surgery. He was patient each time I talked to him and answered all my questions. After my surgery I didn't see him for more than a couple minutes each day, but it didn't really matter because the hospital staff were great. My pain was well managed after surgery, and my incision is healing up very well. Dr B-C seems a little cold at first, but gets more friendly after you have seen him a few times.
Insurer Info:
CIGNA, PPO
It took a few weeks to get minor details cleared up (they had my name on my account spelled wrong!), but after that, it only took three weeks to get approval. They didn't ask for medically supervised diet, and I don't have any serious co-morbidities. My surgeon is not part of my PPO, so it was approved at out-of-network rates. I live in Indiana, but I had my surgery in Michigan. At the time, I didn't know that there were any CIGNA in-network surgeons available in Indiana. Now, I know there are, but they are listed in the CIGNA PPO list under "general surgeons", so you have to know them by name to look them up. After my surgery, CIGNA was very good about paying the bills. I had to pay 3,000 (which was my out-of-pocket-maximum on my policy.) The rest was payed 100% without any questions or problems. Click
