Anxiously waiting for approval -- then scheduling my WLS.
I am a happily married 39 year old mother of 2.

I finally got up the nerve to take the next step and see a surgeon. I went to see Dr. Demarco, he explained the procedure, the risks, the outcomes ... I decided then and there that if insurance would approve the procedure (LAP Gastric Bypass) I would do it. I walked away from his office that afternoon excited, but still not quite believing that this surgery would help me. The Dr. was the one who suggested that I check out more about the procedure, and the support groups here on the web. I am soooo glad I found this site.

I was pleasantly suprised - I got a call from my Doctors office this morning, I have been approved by my HMO! I was expecting problems, but there weren't any. My surgery date is scheduled for Dec. 17th.

Had my surgery - No complications!! Back to work today, feeling pretty good. Have lost 25 lbs so far!

Down 41 lbs. in 8 weeks. I am having a small problem, it seems I have a stricture at the opening out of my new stomach. There is a simple outpatient (not painful) procedure done with an endoscope where the Dr. stretches the opening. I had this done on 2/9 and will have to have it repeated again next week. Hopefully all will be better then! Still would do this again if given the choice.

Down 50 lbs. in 12 weeks. Am now feeling great!! Can eat almost anything (pasta's are not so good) just have to watch the portion size. The longer I go the better I feel.

Down 70 lbs. in 20 weeks. Still having problems with strictures, but really like losing the weight.

Had my gall bladder out -- all of my problems have cleared up. Down a total of 80 lbs. in 7 months. I am now wearing a size 18! Started at size 28+.

I've been feeling fine, but my weight loss has slowed considerably - stuck at around 100 lbs lost. But, next week I am scheduled for a Tummy Tuck!

Insurer Info:
Keystone Health Plan Central, HMO
I was surprised. They approved right away.
Special note: I am a federal employee, the federal health insurance plans have a special rider that covers obesity surgery. I think this may have helped.
