I am a single mother of two children and am newly engaged to be married. I would be thrilled to be able to be thin enough to go scuba diving without being embarrassed, to be able to play sports with my children, and to do all the things I cannot do being overweight. I thank GOD for this opportunity and second chance to be 'normal'!

Addition: Today is my surgery date, 6/27/2002. They moved the surgery date up due to the surgeon will be out of town for the holiday week. No problem here! I will be leaving for the hospital in about 2 hours. The biggest hurdle so far? Eating complete clear liquids the day before. I am READY!

Surgeon Info:
My surgeon is Dr. William O'Malley in Rochester New York at Highland Hospital. He is a super phsyician, very personable, extremely knowledgeable in this surgery. His office staff is very very busy, but friendly. I just wish he had more time to spend personally to discuss the issues at hand. Dr. O'Malley is a very caring doctor with excellent bedside manner. Although he is very busy, he still makes time to treat you like a person and not just a patient. After care is emphasized with alot of handouts, and he asks us to do much research. The aftercare program is very structured. Dr. O'Malley holds a group seminar to discuss all the risks and benefits of the surgery prior to seeing you for a consult as a patient. I would rate him a 9 on a scale of 1-10. Both his surgical competence and bedside manner are great!

They have been nothing but helpful. Everytime I call them to find out an update, they are more than willing to help me. No, they do not stall, they usually take between 24-48 hours to approve once the surgeon sends (fax or mail) all the paperwork. Make sure you attend all your necessary appointments, they will not approve anything unless everything is in order. In our city, you need to see a Nutritionist, a Psychiatrist, and have a letter of recommendation from your PCP, as well as the one-on-one vist to your surgeon. Once these are all set, they will work with you to do what it takes to get you approved.
