I am a 36 year old mother of 2. I have been battling with my weight since I was about 12 years old. I'm quite sure in the last 20+ years that I have lost over 1000 lbs. I have thought about this surgery before, always putting it to the back of my mind. Now, I am seriously researching and have made an appointment at a bariatric center...I am sick and tired of being sick and tired! So, I am in the very beginning stages of this process, and would appreciate any advice or insight that is available. I have found this site very valuable, and have spent alot of time her the last few days. I am excited that I am finally taking a step out, but also quite nervous. My appointment is May 9th....I'v got a really nervous, happy feeling!
6-25-02 I had my third consult today, and am very happy with the surgeon I saw today. I am hoping to have surgery in a couple of weeks, if it be God's will. I have already been approved for surgery with one of the other Dr.s I saw, so hopefully, reapproval with a new surgeon and new hospital will not take long.Take care and God bless!
7-8-02 I HAVE A DATE!!!! I am actually having surgery in 3 days!!! I am sooo happy!! Thanks be to Jesus my Lord and Savior!I would appreciate any prayers! Thanks. I can't wait to be on the losing side!!
7-9-02 Pre-ops done, tomorrow I see the nutritionist, then the next day is surgery. Everything is happening so fast...which is a good thing, because it doesn't give me much time to be nervous. I will update after surgery...thank you for any prayers!!
7-22-02 Well, that was quite an experience!!! I had my surgery on the 11th, and am feeling much better today! It was much harder than I thought it was going be, but getting a bit better every day.Glad to be home, because the hospital stay was a nightmare.....I can't even get into it, the thoughts are still too fresh and horrible. I just want to thank all who prayed for me. I thank Jesus for seeing me through!!Have a great day!
8-6-02 26 days post-op and minus 30 pounds!! Feeling good.Excited to lose much more. I have been having trouble getting my water and protein in, but I think as time goes on I'll be able to take more in. I miss eating like I used to, but very glad that I can't. Everybody have a great day and God bless!!
8-22-02 6 weeks post-op, and down 41 lbs.! Everything is going pretty well. Have a great one, and God bless!
9-3-02 I went for my 8 week check up ( 2 days short of 8 weeks) and now I am down 45lbs. I was hoping for 50lbs. at 8 weeks, but I'll take the 45!! I have to increase my water, protein, and exercise. I have been really bad at doing what I should be doing. Have a good one, and God bless!
10-1-02 I will be 12 weeks post-op in 3 days. I saw my Dr. today, and am down 61lbs.! I have been working out at curves the last month, and I think this has been helping.... I feel good!! I hope you all have a great one and God bless!
11-12-02 4 months post-op and down 85 pounds. I really wanted to lose 100 pounds by 6 months out, and it now seems like I might make it! I'm feeling so much better. I'm still not eating right, but I do continue to exercise. Have a great one and God bless you.
12-15-02 Five months post-op and down 94 pounds. I'm very happy with my weight loss, but I know I could be doing better. I've been really slacking on the exercise, and eating all of the wrong things! I am determined to get back on track!! I hope you all have wonderful holidays. Remember Jesus is the reason for the season!! God bless!!
10-27-03 It has been a really long time since I have posted, but our computer broke and I just very recently purchased a new one. I hope everyone out there is doing well. I am now about 15 and 1/2 months post-op. I am about 20 lbs. from goal, but haven't really even tried to get those extra pounds off.... I rarely excercise and eat whatever I want...I know, bad way to be. I just feel so good.I teeter back and forth with 5 lbs. I am going to try and get those extra 20 lbs. off, but I am having way too much fun right now. I lost 120 lbs. in about 8 months and not much has happened since then. I feel great! I know that this surgery was a life-saver for me, and I hope it helps the many people out there that are looking for a way to win the battle. God bless! Lezli

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Daniel Hoeltgen, M.D.
Everyone in Dr.Hoeltgen's office was very nice. Dr.Hoeltgen was my third consult. He was by far the most informative. I feel very comfortable with him doing the surgery....I was a bit apprehensive about the other two dr.s I met with. I prayed that I would be led to the right Dr....Thank you Jesus!
