Married, mother of 1 daughter, stepmother of 3 daughters, step grandmother to 2 granddaughters. Studying for BS in Marketing at Goldey Beacom college. Hope to graduate (thin) sometime in 2007. Have a surgery date set for July 13, 2005.

(4/26/2005) Bloodpressure Problems
I am now keeping a diary of my bloodpressure. It has been fluxuating aklot and my doctor is not sure what kind of treatment he wants me on. I'll find out in 2 weeks. Nurse wants me to get pressure regulated before surgery. Had my EGD last week. Some damage from reflux. Went on Prevacid. Miracle drug! Haven't chewed a Tums in a week.

(4/27/2005) Got My Date!!!
Just got off the phone with the surgeon's office. Barring any problems with my paperwork, my surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13. I'm really nervous/excited. I feel like I did when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. The words "life changing experience" are ringing in my head. It's finally something "real". I'm actually going to do this! The girls at work have promised to take me shopping next summer when I've lost most of my weight. But then I also have boxes of "vintage" clothes in my attic from the 80's when I was thin (aka starving myself). You know, the ones that you swear that you'll "get back into" once you loose 10 pounds, that turned into 20 pounds, that eventually turned into 120 pounds!

PS I still have my Prom Dress from 1981. And guess what! It's still in style! Maybe someday.........

(4/29/2005) Sleep Apnea Diagnosis
My buddy Dave at the Sleep Diagnostics lab called today to give me the bad news...I have sleep apnea. I have to go in for another test next week because they can't determine how much respiratory assistance I will need for my surgery. It's not so bad. It's a really nice facility, brand new. Rooms look like a hotel room and there's a private bathroom with a shower. The only thing I didn't like was that it took almost an hour to hook me up to all the sensors. The guys that work there are super nice too. Hubby's a little jealous because I was talking so much about how sweet they were the last time. He thinks he might have to drive me there and check them out to make sure he has nothing to worry about. LOL He's such a puddin! I love him so much. He always makes me feel loved and desired no matter how big I am.

I went to the gyno today too. I have to have a pelvic ultrasound (eeewwww). My periods are so screwed up (I had 2 last month) he wants to make sure there's no pollips or anything in there and that I can be treated with just hormones. He also wrote me up to get a mammagram the same day (ouch!!!). Well if I'm going to be really uncomfortable, I might as well get it over with in 1 day.

I tell you, I've had more people see my naked fat ass in the past month than in my entire life!!! I'm getting a little sick of doctors. I feel like I've seen a different one every day and they all want me naked! And you know how much fat people LOVE to be naked!!!!

Love to all!

Dee (Take off all you clothes and say AAAHHHH) Moore

(5/3/2005) Counting down the time
Still keeping track of my blood pressure. Still on the high side. Had my bloodwork done last Saturday. I have deep veins which is a problem for someone trying to draw blood. I gave up donating blood over a year ago because my veins would give up half way thru the session. I hope this won't be a problem during my surgery.

I was just looking at all of the before-after pictures. God everyone looks so fantastic! I can't wait to join the "club". This is the first time I've ever wanted to be a "looser".

My co-workers and I did our annual beach cleanup down in Lewes. As usual, I was bringing up the rear. Its so hard walking on the sand when you have tiny feet (size 6) and weigh almost 260. My calves are killing me today. But the best pedicure you can give yourself is walking on the beach in your bare feet.

I feel like I'm on "pause" until July. I can't get motivated to do anything that's not WLS related. Like now, I'm supposed to be writing a 6 page paper on the North American Free Trade Agreement (woo hoo) for my International Marketing class, and instead I'm writing in my diary. Actually, I've been putting it off for several weeks now simply because its a subject that I'm not interested in. The course is a requirement for my major and I've been bored to tears for the last 7 weeks. It's done thursday night.

Well I've got to stop procrastinating now and get to work. Hopefully I can get 2 more pages written tonight, then all I have to do is write 3 more pages tomorrow night and I'm done!

(5/5/2005) I have to Peeeee!!!!!!!
OMG I have to Pee so bad! I'm having my pelvic ultrasound today at 12:45. I have to drink 32oz of water before and I'm not allowed to pee! I've gotten in 16 oz of coffee and maybe 12oz of water so far and I have to pee so bad I'm cross-eyed! God I hope I don't have an accident on the way to the doctors! I also get to have my mammogram today too! Yay! Nothing like having your boobs run over by a steamroller!

I finally finished my research paper last night at midnight! Thank god, such a boring topic! I take my final exam tonight. I just want to get all of this over with so I can relax until my surgery in July!

(5/6/2005) Boobs still sore!
Geez a day after my mammogram and my poor little puppies are still sore!!! I know it's essential to abuse them in order to get a clear picture, but damn, knock me out or something! I know that now that I'm in my 40's I need to get one every year or so, it's just that I'm TOTALLY not looking forward to this! Oh well, sometimes it just SUCKS to be a woman!

On a better note, I finished my International Marketing class last night! Took my final (it went well), handed in my research paper, YAY!!!! I'm free from school till July 11th.

(5/9/2005) Bloodpressure update
Just got back from my bloodpressure followup exam. My PCP put me on bloodpressure meds. Hopefully I won't have to take them for very long after my surgery! He thinks that once I loose this weight I should go back to normal because back in my younger/skinnier days my pressure was always on the low side.

I took my 17 year old daughter out driving on Saturday! Who Boy! She didn't do that bad but there was a couple of times I thought she was going to take a turn on only 2 wheels! But we survived! I've got to get her used to driving my truck because she's the one who will be taking me to any appointments the first couple of weeks post surgery. She's really a terriffic kid. She wants to be a nurse and is really excited that I asked her to come and help take care of me. I showed her the surgery video from Carnie's part of the Spotlight Health website, she was fascinated. She's going to make a really good nurse someday I think!

(5/13/2005) More on Sleep Apnea
OK if my scale is correct this morning, I've lost about 5 pounds! I'm not really trying anything special, just trying to concentrate on eating breakfast every day and not eating junk. My nutritionist should be happy. My last pre-WLS class is this coming Wendesday and we get our weight checked. We're supposed to either maintain our weight or loose some (no specific target given) during the 6 weeks of classes so I guess I've achieved that goal!

Had my follow-up sleep study Wed night. They put me on a CPAP machine. It completely cured the Apnea. On average, I was stopping my breathing once per minute, which is concidered moderate to severe apnea. I will be getting my own machine (oooohhh my sex life is just going to go thru the roof!!!)as soon as the reports are sent to my Pulminologist. I need to try to get as much rest as possible between now and my surgery date in July. This might even help my bloodpressure also. I will have to continue to use the machine until I've lost much of my excess weight, then I will have to go back for another study and re-evaluation. I don't mind that because the new Facility in Middletown, DE is really nice and Steve & Dave (who work tue & wed nights) are absolute dollbabies! Although I did have this wierd-ass dream that they came in while I was still sleeping and had everyone else that was being studied in my room and they were having a little breakfast party! Everyone was sitting all around me eating bacon-egg-cheese bagels and drinking coffee (not decaf!) and just having a good ole time while I was laying there sleeping! Dream analysis please...anyone....anyone! LOL

(5/14/2005) 2 Weeks wait for Biopsy
Someone please explain to me why it takes 2 weeks to find out if you have Cancer!?!?!?!?!

I know that I shouldn't be wigging like this but when a Gynochologist tells you that "we'll just take a little biopsy of your uterus to rule out cancer" wigging out just seems like natural thing to do! It all started out with my having wacked out periods for the past 3 years. Had my first pelvic ultrasound last year and it was fine, doc put me on birth control pills and they got me synched back up. Fast forward to this year, periods get wacked out again, I go in last week for my 2nd ultrasound, Doc tells me yesterday that there's "something there", maybe a cyst, maybe a pollip, who knows, but we want to rule out the big C so we're gonna do a biopsy. Damn that hurt! Not for long, but it still hurt! Then he tells ne to come back in 2 weeks for the results. So now I'm just waiting for the next 2 weeks to hear how the rest of my life is going to be.

Sorry I know I shouldn't be complaining like this but can't they just say "lets do a biopsy and see what we have here" or something like that?

Just venting!

(5/16/2005) One Day at a time!
Just taking it one day at a time. Taking 1 task at a time, finishing it and moving onto the next.

My little one had her dance recital this past weekend. She was wonderful! What a treat it is to watch her dance. She loves it so. She's upstairs right now dancing and singing Lady Marmalaide (sp?) Gitchy Gitchy Ya Ya Ta Ta (I have no idea what the words are, that's just what she's singing!) The joy of my life that one is! She's very musical, singing and dancing all the time. I guess I'll have to get her some piano lessons soon.

Met with my dietition today. We talked and she gave me her clearance for surgery. Said that it seemed like I was on the right track and very knowledgeable about what I'll need to do after the surgery. Yay!

(5/19/2005) My Little Knucklehead!
Well, my daughter gave me quite a scare Tuesday. Around 9:30am I got an emergency phone call from the school nurse. Apparently Chelsea found a little round, clear piece of plastic on the floor and decided that it was a contact lens and proceeded to put it into her eye. It took 2 people to haul her to the nurses office, kicking and screaming in pain the entire way. It also took 2 people to hold her down so the nurse could look at her eye to see what was wrong. The nurse was able to pop it out before it could do any serious damage. I rushed over and took her to the eye doctor. Luckily there was only minor scratches to her cornea and she seems to be just fine. What the heck was she thinking!!! Ah well, just another day in the life of Chelsea. She definately does come up with some stuff! Never boring around here.

Well I finished all of my Life Skills classes last night. YAY! Only 1 more doctor's appointment on Monday to get my final clearance. I go to the gyno next Wed to find out about my biopsy (keep your fingers crossed). Now I just have to get motivated and spring clean my house so I won't have to worry about that after surgery. I'm such a procrastonator when it comes to housework, plus I have no idea whether or not to put away my long sleeve clothes! First it's cold, then it's hot, then it's chilly again! Please somebody make up my mind! LOL

(5/20/2005) Got my Protein Drink Samples
My sample packs came from bairatriceating.com. 2 servings each of Nectar Lemon Iced Tea, Fuzzy Navel Peach, Roadside Lemonade, Perfect Chocolate & Simply Vanilla; 1 serving each of Elite Orange Dreamsicle Juicers, Berry Blast, Chocolate Mint, Gourmet Vanilla, Rich Chocolate; 1 serving each of IDS Multi-Pro Whey Isolate Cappuccino, Belgian Chocolate, Banana, Vanilla-Cinamon; 1 serving of Bigtrain Spiced Low Carb Chai; and 1 serving of Whey Fruity Grape.

I'm drinking the Nectar Lemon Iced tea right now. Not too bad. I will have to get used to drinking milky looking iced tea I guess. It has a little funny smell, but I expected that (I'm sure every protein added drink will have a funny smell, I'll get used to it I guess). I mixed it with 8 oz water. I think that might be a little too much water. I'll try 6oz next. It has 12g of protein. I'll update with each new drink I try.

It's raining here and chilly. Gonna start spring cleaning the house this weekend. Hubby's working all weekend and Chels is with her Dad so I should be able to get alot done. I'm going to my first Group Meeting (outside my life skills classes) tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to meeting other patients outside my class group.

(5/23/2005) My Left Foot!
Just got back from the Podiatrist. I have classic plantars faschiatis (sp?). She gave me a support band to wear around my foot, some exercises to do, then she shot my heel up with cortizone. YEOW! That hurt! She numbed the area first but it didn't help much. I have to go back in 3 weeks to see if the cortizone worked and reduced the inflammation. I hope it does. I've got to get back to my walking.

I have my final doctor's exam tonight at the PMRI facility for the clearance for surgery. Dr. Irgau should be submitting my paperwork to BCBS DE sometime Tuesday or Wed.

Went to my first support group meeting Saturday. It was terriffic! Like a little social club with a lecture on WLS nutrition somewhere in the middle. All of the post-ops look so good! I can't wait!

Cleaned out my bedroom closet finally! I haven't done it since my husband moved in with my over 3 years ago. What a mess! I packed my fat winter sweaters & shirts, cleaned out the shoes that I can never wear again because of my foot. Now all I jhave to do is get my husband to hang up all of his clothes and we're all set! Feels good! Next weekend it's the coat closet/pantry in the kitchen!

Later!

(5/24/2005) Can I get a WOO HOO!
Lets hear it for cortizone injections!!!!!! I actually got out of bed this morning with NO PAIN!!! I could walk to the bathroom and not limp or hold onto the furniture or walls for the first time in 6 months! What a relief!

Had my final clearance physical last night. Everything was good and even though I was hot, sweaty, bloated from my period, wearing heavier sneakers and jeans than I did on my first visit, I managed to loose 3.5 pounds since Wednesday night. I totally don't get it! It must be the increase in my protein intake. That's the only thing I can think of. I've really been trying to go easy on the carbs (but I did eat my very LAST peanut butter and potato chip sandwich saturday afternoon! (ooooo I'm going to miss them, been a favorite since I was a kid). I've been saying good-bye to my favorite foods. Fried chicken, potato chips, candy, ice cream, anything else with real sugar! Anyway, I got my clearance from that doctor, but I couldn't get my final clearance because the Lab and 2 doctors have not sent in their results and reports yet! I was so pissed! I saw those doctors over a month ago, they've been paid, so what the F is the hold-up??? I left messages with every one today (you can never get a human to answer the phone anymore, I really miss that!). I'd better get results soon or I'm going to show them EXACTLY how big a pain in the ass this fat girl can be!!!

(5/25/2005) Biopsy is Clear!!!
Got my biopsy results. Everythings fine, I just have an infection. Couple of days of antibiotics and I'll be good as new! What a relief. Doc put me on a 12 day per month hormone regemine to to sync up the lining of my uterus so it all leaves at the same time and not whenever it feels like it! LOL

I know I promiced to post my protein powder taste test results tonight but I forgot to email myself my file from work. I really will post it tomorrow!!!

Didn't have time to call the surgeon's office to see of the last 2 holdouts had faxed in their reports yet. That's on my agenda for tomorrow also. I had a note yesterday that the cardiologist had faxed in his so I guess it's a start.

Took Chelsea to the psychologist today. She has ADHD and has really been having some social skill problems recently. There's an older boy that's giving a hard time on the bus and I think it's affecting her entire day. She seems frustrated, and since she can't lash out at the boy who's causing her this grief, she lashes out at the other kids in her class. Luckily there's only 2 more weeks of school left. There's also another girl on the bus that's in the 1st grade too that has similar behavior problems that she gets in trouble with. I've told the driver several times that the girls must never sit near each other. When you get Chelsea in a group situation she really cannot control herself that well. We're adjusting her medication this week. Hopefully that can make a difference and she can enjoy her last few days of school. It's really painful to watch and to hear about her struggles. I just want to snatch her up and run away to someplace where she will be protected from mean people.

(5/26/2005) Taste Test So Far
OK so here are my taste test observations so far:

1st of all the metal shaker that I got with the samples is cute but it leaks. They really should do some kind of a twist on top with a rubber seal like a pickle jar or something!

Syntrax Nectar Ice Tea Flavored – Looks funny but tastes good. I mixed with 8oz water, little watery. Very fine powder, mixed well, not gritty at all. Will try 6oz water next time. 12g protein 8oz liquid. I think I’ll just try mixing unflavored Protein powder with Crystal Light. It’s cheaper.

Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel Peach – Wow, really great, mixed with 6oz water. 12g protein 6oz liquid. Will definitely purchase again! www.SI03.com (under construction), www.bariatriceating.com 2 lb $23.95

* Mixed ½ packet with 20oz water & crystal light ice tea on-the-go mix. Yummy peach tea! 20 oz liquid 6g protein. Recommend 24 oz bottle, whole pack of peach mix & 1½ pkg ice tea mix.

IDS Multi-Pro Whey Isolate Cappuccino – WOW! Loved it! My replacement for coffee! Mixed with 8oz hot water. Sweet, will try 10 oz next time. Will also try with skim milk. Lots of vitamins & minerals and 23 g protein! Excellent product! Will definitely purchase again! Excellent start to the morning. www.idssports.com 2lb $25.46, www.bariatriceating.com 2 lb $18.95

Elite Rich Chocolate – mixed with a 6oz Dannon lite strawberry-bannana yogurt smoothie. Took a while to finally shake all of powder into smoothie. Recommend using blender instead of shaker. Very good! I need to keep it cold though. www.dymatize.com 10 lb $49.99, www.bariatriceating.com 2 lb $17.95

* 1st big observation is that bariatric eating.com has better prices than the manufacturers websites! Even better than buying at the Preventative Medicine & Rehabilitation Institute where we have our classes & meetings. Nice recipes too! Took 1 week to get the sample order regular UPS delivery.

(6/6/2005) Stuff goin on
Not much going on lately. One word of advice on the protein powder. You must SHAKE it, don't stir it with a spoon. The cappiccino that I love, well last week I tried to just stir in the powder with a spoon, OMG!! It was so nasty! I got this giant glob of rubbery, curdles floating on the top of the drink. I guess the Protein molecules separated from the flavorings. Very gross. I did this 2 other times with other powders that I was testing and the same thing happened. I then tried it again, only this time using the shaker, and it worked perfectly. So I've decided to get one of those magic bullet blenders to keep here at work. Purchased some unflavored Soy Protein at GNC to try. They say that the soy is better for women because it raises our estrogen levels. Hope it's good, I'm tired of plucking my "man hairs" off my chin every week! LOL

Still waiting to hear about my cpap machine. I called the pumologist on friday to find out what the problem was but I haven't heard anything back yet. Maybe I should just stop by the office and throw a fit? Gotta call the surgeon today also to see if they finally got all of the paperwork they needed to send to BCBS for my final approval. I got a pre-op appointment for the 23rd of June, so I really need to know something definite before then!

My weight loss quest has inspired both of my stepdaughters to try to lead healthier lives. They both have BMI's of arount 32, so they're not morbid yet, but they're well on their way.We discussed exercise, water & protein intake, the importance of breakfast, and cutting down their sugar and carb consumption. I've got to copy my nitrition and dietition visit notes & handouts for them to read. I've also told then that they both need to go see their PCP's and get full physicals along with bloodwork to make sure everything is good before they start their diets. Hopefully they will listen and follow my advice. They both need to loose between 40-60 pounds. Keep your fingers crossed for them!

(6/7/2005) Pissed at Pulminologist's Office Staff
I have my pre-op appt on June 23 2005. They haven't submitted to my insurance yet because Dr. Ishmael (pulminologist) can't clear me until I've had my cpap machine for 2 weeks. They didn't even order it until yesterday! I was in their office 2 weeks ago and they told me they were ordering it that day and to expect a call from mediquip that week. I finally had to call them last Thursday, they said they hadn't ordered it yet but they would order it that day. I didn't hear anything Friday or yesterday, so I called Misty (my hero at my surgeon's office) and told her what was going on and that I was leaving for vacation in less than 3 weeks and I had to have the stupid machine before then! She called Dr. Ishmael and made them order the machine (YAY). I had a message from mediquip when I got home last night. I should have the machine by the end of the week. Misty didn't sound like she was too happy with them when she called me back. So basically I won't know if I'm even approved until a few days before my surgery date (I'm pissed). I'm just going go along like I already have my approval and try not to worry about it, but if I get denied and don't have enough time to fight it before my date and I have to reschedule, then I'm going to raise hell with Dr. Ishmael and his office staff! Because if they'd made the phone calls like they were supposed to I would've had the machine 3 weeks ago and I would have a month to fight any denials like I originally planned.

Anyway, I went to a support group meeting last night. The lecture was given by one of the Surgeons (Dr. Peters, what a little cutie!!!) in my doctors office. It was about what to expect from the few days before surgery till about 3 months out. It was very informative. I wish everyone considering this surgery would have access to meetings like I have. There's like 6 different group meetings every month that I can go to. And because Delaware is so small, we're a pretty tight bunch. There's always someone you know at a meeting. My 3 freinds from my life skills class are being operated on this week, 2 today and 1 tomorrow. I'm going out to buy each one a baby spoon. I figure that would be more useful than flowers! I'll stop by the hospital after work tomorrow to see them.

(6/20/2005) What's goin' on!
Been an extremely busy & stressful week! Was swamped at work but things are finally calm now.

Got my cpap last Monday. Works really great! Hubby is very happy because I haven't woke hiim up with my snoring all week. A few mornings I even woke up in the same position I fell asleep in. Went to podiatrist last Thurs. Cortizone helped my foot alot, but I'm still in pain every day. Normally she would do 1 more cortizone shot, but I'm too close to my surgery, so she gave me a prescription for 4 weeks of physical therapy. I called 1 place close to me on Friday but they haven't called back, so I'll just have to find someplace else I guess. I talked to Misty in the surgeon's office on Friday to give her an update on all of the treatments I'm going thru and that I'd finally gotten my machine and she told me that she had just received the final clearances from the pulminologist that she had been wating on and she would be faxing everything to my insurance office as soon as it's signed! She stated that she didn't think I would have any trouble getting the final approval from BCBS so I'm going ahead with the July 13th surgery date. The hospital called to get some pre-op info from me and will call back on friday to get my medical history. I leave for vacation on the 26th and won't be back till the 3rd, so I'm hoping to hear from BCBS before I leave. I have my pre-surgical consult with Dr. Irgau this Thurs. I can't wait! Saw my PCP today for my bloodpressure check. Everything is great. I have enough meds so he doesn't want to see me until Sept. I hope to be about 30 pounds lighter the next time I see him. My friend Janice Had her surgery on the 8th and went back to work PT on the 13th. She feels great! I hope I do as well as she is.

(7/5/2005) HOLY CRAP!!!! ONLY 1 WEEK TO GO!!!
OMG I'm getting REALLY nervous now!!!! How do you people sleep the week before your surgeries!!!!

I just got back from vacation. My LAST fat vacation!!!! I had a really great time except that I'm embarrassingly fat! Did some walking, alot of biking around the village, some swimming (floating on a raft hoping that no-one would harpoon me! LOL). We tried to do some boating but the boat broke down the first 10 minutes we ran her and had to get a tow back to the marina! No biggie, plenty of other stuff to do! Did alot of fishing and crabbing off the dock. My daughter had a wonderful time playing with the little boy next door. He was a little sweetie! Talked like Elmer Fudd with a southern accent! Could just eat him with a spoon! Had such a great time that we already re-booked the place for next year. I'm hoping that I'll be down about 100 pounds or so by then and not embarrassed about the way I look.

Hospital called and got my pre-op registration done. Go tomorrow evening to get my tests done (stomach just did a roll over at that thought). Anxiety at an all-time high right now!!!! I was hoping to have my notice from BCBS that my surgery was actually approved by them by the time I got back, but I haven't heard anything. I called Misty at the surgeons office to see if she heard anything. We've been playing phone tag all day so I still don't know. God, I just want to get this over with!!!!!!

(7/11/2005) Approved! And Not A Minute Too Soon!!!!
Well, I called the Drs office 2 times today to find out if BCBS gave their authorization yet. (I also threatened to go postal if I got postponed and did the liquid diet for nothing) Misty finally called me back at 3:40pm and told me she had to call them but they approved me on the spot! So everything's set for 8am Wednesday Morning!!! I'm on my first day of my 2 day pre-op liquid diet. I'm spending most of my time on the toilet peeing!. I've had nothing but fruit20's today and now I'm sipping a big mug of how chicken broth. It actually tastes really good. To all those pre-ops out there, get copies of ALL the tests & reports your need. I've been sitting on pins & needles for the past month because several of my doctors were extremely late in faxing their reports to my surgeon. Also keep on their office staffs too. It took 4 phone calls and 3 weeks before the staff at the pulminologists office ordered my cpap machine. (stopping to pee now)......(back)......Hope I can make it thru work tomorrow. I've got 2 draft proposals to get out before I leave. Wish me luck!!!

(7/12/2005) Tis the Night Before..........
My surgery, and all thru the house, not a creature was stirring, not even the dog, the, cat, the fish or the hermit crab!

I just got back from my mom's. I didn't tell her about my surgery. For some strange reason, I didn't want to. So far the only one who knows outside my husband and kids is my sister-in-law. My daughter dropped the dime on me a few weeks ago. But she lives down in Smyrna and won't tell. I don't know why I don't want my family to know. This is so personal to me. It's been a long journey and I don't want any distractions now. I don't want to worry about how much my mom will be worried. She can be a real pain in the a$$ when she's worried. I just want to get in and get this thing over with so I can live again. So everyone is on a need to know basis. I don't know, am I being selfish? I'm open to any suggestions.

By the way, my mother lives down the street from me but is preparing to go to her sister's anniversary party on Saturday and My aunt is up staying with her for a couple of weeks.

(7/15/2005) I'm Home!!!!
And doing really well. Thank you everyone for your wonderful posts, emails and well wishes. All of you are the best!

I was lucky and had a room all to myself the whole time (I highly recommend that!) I did flash the nurses yesterday morning. Apparently they got a pretty good view of my ass. Grace (the PCT) came up behind me and fixed my gown for me. I told her the least they could do is give me a dollar for the show. Oh well, who HASN'T seen my ass in the past couple of months!!!

They pulled my drain about 9am and my lovely step-daughter picked me up about 9:30. Came home and took a shower. Best shower ever! Then I laid down and went to sleep for about an hour and a half. I was pretty sore when I woke up so we went to the drug store to get my codene. Took my dose when I got back and now I'm feeling pretty good. Was laying down but started burping so I got up and walked around the house and downstairs to work out the gas. I did find the B-12 strips (like the mouthwash strips that melt on your tongue). I'm going to double check with my nutritionist before I take them. I have my optisource vitamins that I'll start on Monday. I don't want to over-do the vitamins. I've heard of people taking too many vitamins and that's not good either.

Well I'm getting a little tired now. I'm going back upstairs to lay down. Oh by the way, I'm down about 10 pounds since Sunday!

(7/16/2005) I start my pureed diet tomorrow.......
I've got my pureed chicken soup (extra chicken & scoop of soy protein to boost it with). I didn't want to cook up a bunch of stuff ahead of time cause I was afraid I wouldn't like it when it came time to eat. I don't want to make myself sick the first day.

I'm doing really well. Got up in the middle of the night and walked thru the house. I seem to do better at getting rid of the gas in the middle of the night (tooooooooot!). I roamed around for about an hour (even walked the dog around the yard in my jammies. Heck it was 2:30am so if anyone saw me I could just tell them I'm on drugs! I think they got me used to early morning roamings in the hospital. I just unloaded & reloaded the dishwasher (which requires slight bending at the waist) and that got the gas moving out too (toooooooooooot!). And I slept this afternoon for like 3-1/2 hours. I walked down the street to my parent's house yesterday evening after it cooled down some (made the whole family go with me). That went really well. Knock on wood, I'm doing so much better than I originally expected. Had a little bit of nausea this morning so I opened up one of my prevacids and poured it into my shot-glass of water and took it that way. It worked really well and didn't make me sick.

My daughter made some chili for dinner last night. It smelled really good. There's some extra that I'm going to puree for later in my diet (it's not too spicy). I'm really appreciating the smell of things now. Hubby boiled me up a bunch of chicken breasts yesterday (the broth was really good). I individually bagged them so I can just grab one whenever I need it. The smells didn't make me ill and I was perfectly satisfied to dip my pinkie in the chili to taste it. It hadn't cooked down yet so it was still pretty juicy and vary tasty. I'll wait a few weeks to eat anything with spices. Got to baby my new pouch now! Well the gas is moving again so I'm gonna walk up & down the steps now. Talk to you all later!

(7/26/2005) Back to work
Went back to work yesterday. Took 3 small meals in baby cups with me and a bunch of yogurts. I already have a bunch of protein powder there. I actually got in all of my liquids yesterday and about 2/3 of the protein goal. I had Class afterwards and didn't get home until 9:30pm. I had to take a mid-term exam. I think the anestetic erased everything I'd learned before the surgery because when I got to the part of the test on the 2 chapters we studied before my surgery I was a complete blank. Oh well hopefully I can make it up with the 3 case studies and final exam. Things are going really well. My energy level is fine and so far NOTHING has made me sick or gag. I was a little nauseated after I drank a chocolate protein drink that I'd added a little peanut butter to but it passed within an hour with no incident. I see my surgeon on Thurs for my 2 week check up and I think I'll ask him if he's sure he did anything to me! I'm down 16 pounds already. I hope I can keep up this pace for the next few weeks. I'd really like to be down 30 at my 1 month check.

(7/28/2005) 2 Week Checkup
Went to CHRIAS this morning for my check-up. BP was excellent (haven't taken meds since morning of surgery). According to their scales I'm down 15 pounds (fully clothed, at home in my t-shirt only I'm down 16) I met with Dr Jadali who is one of the new doctors. He was very nice and answered all of my questions. The only problem he saw (and it's a common one for newbies), not getting enough protein in per day. I'm only up to about 50-60 gms per day. My target is 80-90 and I'm working on drinking my protein drinks several times per day. I really like the Nectar Peach Fuzzy Navel and the Cappiccino Protein drinks that I found on bariatriceating.com. I don't miss my coffee anymore. So still no nookie for 4 more weeks ( :'( = my hubby), no outdoor bike riding yet for 4 more weeks, I can swim in about 2 weeks. So for now it's still walk, walk, walk. I finally got to meet Misty (my hero). And I met the bariatric coordinator from Christiana hospital. She was there observing their office procedures in order to better coordinate patient care at the hospital. She was very nice too. That's it for now.

(8/22/2005) 5 week check up
Went for my 1 month checkup last thursday (it was actually the 5 week mark cause the Dr was on vacation the week before). Everything went really well. by their scales (fully dressed with shoes) I was down 27 pounds (my scales said 29). They told me that was excellent and I was right on track. They cleared my for any activity I wanted to do. I'm starting back to Curves tonight. I'm really looking forward to it. Ii had a meeting last Tuesday with my dietition. She was really happy with my protein intake but said I wasn't getting enough fats in my diet! What the F!!! NO ONE has ever told me to increase my fat intake! I laughed my a$$ off. I must be doing something right because my scales told me this morning that I'm down 31 pounds.

(9/14/2005) Wow 2 months out!
I can't believe that time has gone by so fast. I'm down 40 pounds (by my scale) which was my personal 2 month goal. I'm wearing clothes that I haven't been able to wear in over 3 years. I've been working out at Curves for almost a month now and I feel great. I've only had 2 episodes of nasuea but I have not vomited (yet!). My last set of labs were very good except that my Iron is low. No surprise there because my Iron has always been low. My husband started a new wonderful job a few weeks ago. He could be managing his own property within 6-9 months. It's with a International foodservice corporation. He actually gets paid holidays, vacations, full benefits, and weekends off (something unheard of in the foodservice industry!). Like the song says "My future's so bright, I gotta wear shades!" gotta go work out now. See Ya!

(9/18/2005) Dropped some more
It seems like every time I make a journal entry to update my weight, that night I like drop 3 more pounds! I entered my weight on friday and it was 224 or 5, then yesterday morning I'm down to 222! That's the 2nd time that's happened to me so I think I'll journal some every day!!! LOL I'll weigh myself tomorrow morning and let you know if my theory is true or not. I'm such a scale whore! I got measured at Curves friday too. I'm down like 10.5 more inches after only 3 weeks and 11.5 pounds. I LOVE Curves now. When I was going pre op and not seeing any real results it was such a chore, now post-op I can really see and feel the results almost on a daily basis and I love to go there. My weight loss has been so wierd, I'll loose for like 2 days then stay the same for like 4-5 days then loose a chunk more, etc. I guess I'm a "Chunk" looser. Anyone else like that?

(10/17/2005) Down 50+
Well, I just had my 3 month anniversary and I'm down a total of 51 pounds to date. My closet is empty since I've cleaned out all the clothes that are now too big for me. I finally broke down and bought new underwear yesterday. Size 9! I couldn't believe I'm in single diget panties! My mom has been loaning me some of her clothes to get me thru until I can fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes (only 15 more pounds until I'm at that weight). I found a jacket last week in the back of my closet that I haven't been able to wear since I got pregnant with my daughter (she's 8). I've been wearing it all week and it looks great! Yay! I've been working out at Curves religiously 3 days a week for the past 2 months. I feel great! I still can't eat very much at a time but I'm drinking my Nectar protein drinks (I mix 2 scoops with 18-20oz water and sip all morning & afternoon) to make up for the lack of food. I'm going thru this phase where when I'm home on the weekends I don't want to eat. I pretty much have to force myself to eat a meal. I also started taking 1 chewable viactiv calcium and extra iron every day. My iron has always been low and the Optisource vitamins just don't have enough for me, but my labs were really good with everything else. I go see my surgeon this thursday for my check-up.

(10/22/05) Spruced Up

Carole you ROCK!!!! I LOVE my new site. Totally what I wanted.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate this.

Not much going on today. Just playing on the computer and doing laundry. Trying to get all of the summer things sorted, washed, and packed away. I'm also sorting out my last years winter clothes that are too big and getting my closet(s) organized. I've only lost another pound since last update, but I feel like another "chunk" will be falling off soon.

(11/07//2005) Boots, Boots, Boots!!!

Well I went from having no boots in my shoe collection to having 3 pairs today!

It all started Thursday night when I went to Penneys to find an outfit to wear to a Beef & Beer fundraiser friday night. I found this really great pair of boot cut streatch dark wash jeans (size 16 woo hoo!!!!!), a chocolate colored cami with gold stitching and this awsome green paisley sheer tunic to go over it with gold threads running thru it, oh and a gold purse! I took the outfit to work friday to show the girls I work with (both are young, skinny fashion goddesses). Well, the goddesses also bought me an outfit for my birthday from Old Navy. Size 16 boot cut jeans, chocolate colored tee shirt and a beige herringbone blazer and a teal corduory hand bag. They got tired of seeing me in my BB (baggy butt) mom jeans. So I basically had an episode of "How Do I Look" at work! It was so much fun!!! Well all the clothes looked great but the jeans were long and I didn't have any shoes to wear with either outfit so the girls took me out shoe shopping at lunch. I found this really great pair of bronze pointy-toe, skinny high heeled boots. They look fantastic! Not comfortable (what great boots ever are!). Friday night I looked good, got up on the dance floor and shook my boo-tay in my new outfit & boots and had a blast! Saturday I made a pilgrimage to Mecca (DSW Shoes) and found another pair of boots that I loved. Brown, clunky heel, suede & leather, Anne Kleins. On sale no less!!! I then went over to Old Navy and bought a pair of chords for Chelsea for christmas and a pair of beige slacks for me along with 2 pairs of velvet shoes in gold and pink! I am just stylin now!!! Sunday we had to go to middletown to see Rodgers girls and I wore the blaser outfit my co-workers gave me with my Anne Kleins. They loved it! Can't wait till I shrink out of it so they can have it. Helen, the older one had some shoes that hurt her feet so she let me try them. I am now the proud owner of 2 pairs of bo-bo sneakers (converse, 1 black, 1 white) and yet another pair of boots! After that we went to AI HS to watch the rest of my nephew's semi-final playoff CYO football game. They won!!! The whole section of the bleachers got up and sang happy birthday to me when I walked up. I was so embarrassed! The woman sitting behind be couldn't believe that I was 42. I told her that was good, because I don't feel 42. Just what the hell is 42 supposed to feel like? Can anybody tell me? OK, I'm going to go look at my new shoes now!

12/1/2005 Christmas is Almost Here!

Well it's that time of year. I had a really great Thanksgiving. Went to my mom's. Got there about 1pm to help. She'd already made the mashed potatoes and had them warming in the crock pot. Since I didn't eat lunch yet, I fixed myself about 2 tbsp of them. Dinner was great. I had a spoonfull of everything that I wanted. Turkey & gravy, sweet potatoes, corn pudding, and green beans. I didn't eat any of the home made rolls or stuffing (just about killed me to do that!). I did eat a sliver of mom's pumpkin pie (about 1/2 inch wide). It was worth the risk of dumping (I didn't). About 2 hours after that I was hungry again so I fixed a little bowl of 1 tbsp of mashed potatoes, and a little turkey & some gravy. We went back the next day for a little leftovers. No problemo! I don't think that I'm going to be one of those that dumps. The worst thing that has happened to me is some nausea after eating steak.

I pulled out all of my old ski stuff. I have 2 size 16 ski pants that I can get into (little tight, about 5-10 pounds should do it!), plus a pair of 14's, 12's (the crotch is ripped out of those, my last attempt at moguls! LOL), and my size 10 lavender & teal powder suit circa 1989! I held up the 12's and couldn't believe how small they were! How F-ed up was I. I thought I was a fat cow when I was able to wear them last!!! Well, I'm going to fix them and get my fat ass back into them by next season! As god as my witness (she says in her best Scarlett O'Hara voice, shaking her fist in the air!).

Night Y'all!

(12/15/2005)

Well I've dropped another chunk! I'm down to 196 as of this morning. I HAD to go out and buy some new clothes last week (yeah right!!!). Went to Wally World and got a pair of new jeans & a pair of sage green cords. They're size 16 regulars! No more W's in from t of my sizes!! I kept wandering the plus size department until I finally realized that NOTHING in that area would fit me! I had to shop in the LADIES department! How freakin great it that!!!

I went to my bosses cocktail party the other night. Everyone was gushing over how I looked. I'm still not comfortable with the compliments but I smile and say thank you. I'm hoping that someday I'll be able to accept them without feeling weird.

Tomorrow night is out christmas party in Baltimore. This is the first one since 1996 that I can recall actually looking forward to. I bought this snappin maroon velvet pant suit, with some strappy satin shoes and I had some swarvski crystal earrings & necklace made to match. The WLS gang (Elissa, Sharon, Joanne, Gigee, & Debbie) and I had a pampering party at VIP nails last saturday. We all got our fingers & tootsies done. Great time!!!

(12/18/2005) I got Hit On!!! Tee Hee He!

Yep! Me! Got hit on by a guy who was at another party at the hotel my company's christmas party was being held at in Baltimore. OK Let me set the scene for you....

Friday night, Bellvue Hotel, Baltimore MD.
My group arrives in a streatch hummer limo! (Yes my boss is very wealthy)
I'm wearing my lovely maroon velvet fitted suit and my strappy sexy black satin heels. My toes are lookin purty too! Hubby is lookin hawt (he shaved special for the occassion). We get to the party, mingle, I drink 1/2 a glass of white wine with no problem. We, sit and have a lovely dinner. THEN! I have to go potty (no not sick or anything). So I start walking across the lobby to the LR. This guy starts walking towards me, he stops up short when he sees me, looks me up and down, and says "great color, what's your name!?". Of course, me being the smooth, witty, person I am, give him my best Scooby Doo answer...Huuuhhhh??? As I'm looking around to see who he's talking to. No one there so it must be me. So I say "thank you" and RUN off to the bathroom. Man I tell ya, Am I smooth or what! Totally made my evening! Tee Hee! Of course I RUN back to my table (after I'm finished in the bathroom of course) and brag to Rodger. He being the macho man that he is, teases me with "he must have his beer goggles on!". So I tell him he's fired as my hubby and that I was going to go look for my mystery man! Hubby then hugs & kisses me and says then he'll just have to find him first and beat the crap outta him! OK, you're hired again!

(01/03/2006) I'm Baaaakkk! Happy New Year

Sorry I've been scarce but I've been Skiing!!! Rodger, Chelsea and I left for Lake Placid NY last Wednesday and didn't get home till Sunday night. I just want to say to everyone that if you ever get a chance to go to the Adirondack Mountains....GO! It is the most beautiful area I've ever seen! We skied for 2 days at Whiteface (yes I skied both the mens & womens 1980 olympics downhill courses!) and wiped up the mountain with my hubby's carcass! LOL He couldn't keep up with me! His excuse was "you work out and I don't!!!!" (waaahhhh!!!!) Never thought I'd ever hear that. Chelsea went into a 2-day full-day ski school. She was jumping bumps by the end of the 2nd day! We saw Picaboo Street at the speed skating rink the first night we were there (In case you don't know, she's one of the best women's downhill racers to ever come from the US, and one of my idols!). We visited the village of Lake Placid (beautiful & great shopping!), we watched part of a ski jumping competition at the big jumping complex outside of town, and we rode the olympic bobsled! That was so cool (and expensive, but we didn't care since the money goes to maintaining the training facility).

We had a wonderful Christmas and I didn't gain or loose anything (although I do think I gained some muscle in my thighs, they're hard as rocks! Wish I could say the same for my butt! It's making a quick journey down to meet the backs of my knees! LOL).

New Years Blessings to all of my dear friends here at OH!

(1/9/2006)

As you all know, I'm big time back into skiing and doing really well with it. I'm a total adrenaline junky! Well Rodger, Chelsea and I went up to Camelback saturday. Chelsea had done so well at Whiteface, we wanted to see if she could finally ski the whole mountain with us without an instructor. She did fantastic! She skied all of the easy and intermediate slopes and had a blast! I'm so proud of her! Well later in the afternoon the mountain was getting pretty crowded so we were sticking to this one easy run that wasn't crowded at all. I was sking Point, Chelsea following me and Rodger sking behind her batting cleanup. We were going fairly slow, making wide easy turns and traversing the entire run (like a big "S"). Chelsea was working on her turns and maintaining her speed control. Well, outa nowhere comes this guy, rocketing down the slope and SLAMS into me. We probably flew 20 feet in the air before we hit the ground, me on top of him (good, serves the little jerk right!!!). He is SO LUCKY he hit me and not Chelsea! You've heard of a mother bear and her cubs? Well they've got nuthin on me! I got up, shook it off and proceeded to ski the rest of the day and into the evening. I'm really sore today and yesterday and somewhat bruised, but fine (I've been worse after a day of sking). The point of this story you ask.

I can now take a hit! Last year, a hit (or should I say assult! LOL) like that would've ended my day and probably my season. But because I've lost so much weight, been working out and am 100x's more flexible than I've been in the past 12 years, my body can tolerate things like this better than when I was in my 30's. For me that's a WOW moment. I know, a pretty twisted wow, but a wow nonetheless.

(6/20/2006) I'm Baaaaaaaaakkkk!

Yep I've been away for awhile. Very busy. I changed jobs the beginning of April. I'm now the assistant to the CEO of a Biotechnology company. I really like it. I'm kickin ass and takin names! They put me on a Process Implemention/Improvement team. We're reviewing every process throughout the company and finding ways to improve them. I'm also on a Corrective Action Team that's investigating a recurring problem and trying to find a solution. And my boss said to me the other day that he recommended me for the Animal Care Team (whatever that is). I am really empowered here. People listen and take my ideas and questions seriously. No more "Boys Club" atmosphere.

My weight loss has slowed considerably. I'm still loosing, but only at a rate of about 2 pounds a month average. I attritube that to the fact that I haven't exercised since I started this new job. I'm just exhausted at the end of the day. Once I get back from vacation next week I'm gonna get back to Curves! I'm down 90 pounds since my surgery. Only 10 more till I hit the "century" mark! I want to be 150 by the time my 25 reunion comes around the end of November. I think that's pretty realistic. That's my new motto. I'm being "realistic" with myself. I had oricinally set a goal weight of 130 for myself, I know now that at my age that's pretty unrealistic. So my goal is 150. I believe that I can truly achieve that one. I'm starting to lood "deflated" now. My upper arms, while not bad, have developed some pretty pronounced "batwings". If I didn't have this damn panni, I could wear a size 10-12, oh and WTF is up with the "Ken DOLL" look I've developed "down below"! That's what is really freaking me out!!! As for plastics, I'm definately getting the Panni removed and the who-who put back where it belongs cause that's just plain gross and I can't stand it. I want my arms done and the girls put back where they belong, but I CAN live with them the way they are if I have to.

Rodger and I just bought us a slide in camper for his truck. I would never say yes to one cuz I'm a Princess who needs a decent potty when she travels and I could never fit my fat ass in one of those camper potty's before. I can now!!!! So happy anniversary, birthday, fathers day, christmas, flag day, new years day, and so on to my darling hubby for the next five years or so.

We're going to Ocracoke next week. This is the skinniest I've ever been going there! I can't wait! I'm going to try kayacking this time! I got the cutest bathing suit. Black halter with pink polka-dots! Matching pink sandals too! Looking forward to getting back on my bike and toolin around the village.

Very nice, seems to really want to help people. He explained everything in a way that I could understand and answered all of my questions. All of the girls I met there were very helpful and understanding and Misty is a doll. The only problem I had was that I had to wait in the office for about an hour and a half because he was running so far behind on his appointments that day. But I waited! I wasn't going to let it get away from me. I took me several years just to get to the point to call and make the appointment in the first place.
