My surgery date was December 27, 2005. I am hoping for a new future in 2006! I am very happy with the results of my surgery so far. I am adjusting well and am amazed at how smoothly the surgery went and how quickly I have recovered! It has been fabulous so far!

Surgeon: Horacio Asbun, M.D.
This is me: I am a wife, a mother, high school counselor, and a singer. I love classical music. My daughter is 12 and is the joy of my life. I have a wonderful husband who is very supportive of my decision to have weight-loss surgery. My co-workers and friends have also been very supportive. It is an exciting time for me filled with lots of hope for a bright future! This surgery enables us to live a life of abundance and joy as we were meant to live. If you are contemplating weight loss surgery, I highly recommend it based upon my very short but personal knowledge of it. Email me and I will gladly share my experience and hope with you!
Happy New Year and Happy New You!
January 25, 2006: Today I went to weigh in at the WLS Center to see how I am doing. Since my surgery I have lost 27 pounds! That is almost a pound a day! WOW! And the best part is that it hasn't been that difficult because I am not hungry all the time like in the past! This surgery is a godsend!
March 7, 2006: Today it is 10 weeks since my surgery. I have lost 49 pounds since then and 10 more before surgery for a total of 59 pounds! I am getting all sorts of positive feedback from my co-workers. Most of all, I feel GREAT! I still am having some bouts of vomiting...I have not been as careful as I should be about adding new foods gradually so I am not sure exactly what disagrees with me. I thought that some of my problems have been with eating too fast. Anyway, I am eating enough and am satisfied so I am sure it will get better eventually. I am still doing only about 1/2 hour of walking per day and I am not sure how to add more exercise. I have knee problems which keep me from walking more, but also the weather has been very rainy. I need to make exercise a bigger priority.
March 21, 2006: 12 weeks since my surgery. I have lost 54 lbs since my surgery and 10 lbs more before that for a total of 64 lbs. The weight is coming off slower but still very steadily so I can't complain. We are planning a Mediterranean Cruise in June so by then I hope to be even thinner and more fit!
April 11, 2006: 15 weeks since surgery. I have lost 61 lbs. since my surgery and 10 more lbs. before for a total of 71 lbs. I am feeling good and have plenty of energy. I can eat pretty much everything now and just have to be careful that I don't eat too fast...that is what makes me sick. I have enjoyed going out to dinner too and just eat a small amount and take home the rest. Recently, I have been realizing that I need to drink more water. It helps provide quicker weight loss. So that has been my focus recently as well as getting in a 30 minute walk every day.
June 6, 2006: Today I had my "almost 6-mos check-up." It has been 23 weeks since I had my surgery! So far I have lost 74 lbs since my surgery and 84 since I began this journey. I have had a slower weight loss in the last month, but I am still losing so that is OK. When I saw my doctor today, he said my progress was good and that I need to remember to exercise more if I want to lose more. Also, my labs showed slightly low protein, calcium and iron so I will have to be more diligent about taking these extra supplements and eating protein. I haven't been as careful about eating protein as I was in the beginning and it seems to be showing. But I am pleased with my progress so far and am so glad I have had this surgery. It has made something which was in the past impossible for me, become possible!
August 4, 2006: I have not updated my profile in a while. I have had a very busy summer and have done a lot of traveling. I went to Rome and on a beautiful cruise in the Mediterranean and through it all I enjoyed walking and sightseeing so much more now that I am a lot lighter. I did not gain weight even though I was on a 10 day cruise and ate wonderful food. I ate so much less than I would have, and enjoyed it just as much! When I returned, I spent a week with family visitors here in the SF Bay area, then went to Southern CA to spend a week with my mom. Then I had to return to the LA area the next week because my Aunt passed away and I am going down there again this weekend for an anniversary party and to celebrate my 54th birthday! So, my weightloss has slowed down over the summer and I really have only lost about 12 lbs since my last post. Anyway, I have lost a total of 86 lbs since surgery and 96 since I began, which is still great! I continue to struggle to get all of my exercise in and am not as attentive to it as I should be, but I know when I am back in the routine of work I will be better. I am still hopeful that I will continue to lose and hopefully by my 1 year anniversary at the end of December, lose 40 to 50 lbs more!
