Pre-OP: 5'5" 263
had Surgery on 12/21/99
Post-Op:
1/21/99: 238 ... 25 pounds gone
7/15/00: 180...85 pounds gone!!
I lost all of my weight in about a year. I made it to my goal of 165 around October. I was 150 in December of 2000.
I bottomed out in July of 2001 with busy-ness at 145....however 150-155 seems to be best for me! :)
Now when I see I'm gaining weight, I just cut back, up the exercise and watch what I eat a little more. Of course, I haven't had kids yet...so its still a LOT easier for me to lose weight. I'm 25 now...will be 26 in July 2004.
This was the best decision I ever made, and even with the month of complications afterwards that I made it through.. I'd do it again in a million years!
12/22/2004 WOW...I just realized yesterday was my 5..yes FIVE year anniversary!!!! Im doing great, have gained 10 pounds of "holiday" weight but lost 2 the other day after starting to watch what I eat again :) SO that said... I'm happy, healthy, and feeling wonderful. I have b-12 deficiency now, but that also runs in my family. I still can't eat more than 8 grams of sugar which is a GOOD thing! Life is great for me, but I've been through a lot...a marriage, a divorce, graduating college, a job for 5 years. I owe most of my happiness now to the time and hard work I put into counseling for myself for a year. Learned to love and honor myself, be confident, and KNOW what I want from life and I"m able to be comfortable in my own skin. No matter what size. :)
Feel free to email me if anyone has any questions or just wants to talk :)

How would you rate him? :9 on a scale of 10!
Which is better, surgical competence or bedside manner? : Both were excellent. Didn't see him as often after the surgery (while in hospital) which disappointed me, but his associates were just as caring and nice as he was.
Insurer Info:
UPMC Health Plan, HMO
Dealing with them was rather frustrating at first because after the first denial, they took forever to get back with us. THere were mixups, but eventually we talked to the right person and she was helpful in getting them straightened out. Im unsure if they were stalling, or really didn't get my medical history that I faxed.
They DEFINITELY responed to persistence, if you get a denial and file an appeal, call them up, file a "FIRST LEVEL COMPLAINT"...this GUARANTEES that you will get an answer in a month. Otherwise they have 2 months.
THey approved me, so I dont want to complain to much, THANKS UPMC!!!
