12-27-05 Merry Christmas! Down 205#!! I feel wonderful and for those who haven't seen me since last Christmas---WOW are they surprised! Check out my new pictures. Best thing I have ever done for myself!
10-05 Over one year post-op and all is going great. I'm down 191#!! I'm nearly to goal in just over a year.
6-7-05 It's been nearly a year since my surgery and my life is so different. I've lost 165# so far. I feel wonderful. I've had absolutely no problems and hope it remains that way. Would I do this again, many ask. You betcha!
5-3-05 Geeze it's been months! My loss is now up to 159# What a wonderful feeling! Some people have said they don't recognize me! I hardly recognize myself, really. I need to get new pics up soon.
3-1-05 Now up to 136# This is great. I feel great and can walk, walk, walk! I've been to the consignment shops and have some neat new clothes and suits. I look in the mirror and wonder who that person is. Oh! It's me!
1-5-05 I made it to the Century mark and then some. (-113) It's amazing. I feel great and have a lot of energy. Have to get to the Y now that the weather is awful!
12-9-04 I'm almost to the Century mark (-95) after only 4 months! That's exciting. Getting Christmas shopping done is easier. I can walk the mall over and over and not get so tired. Well of course, I'm not lugging all that weight around. Looking forward to the new year and enjoying my new life!
11-22-04 Down 88#! Seeing my family for the first time following surgery on 7-30-04. Thanksgiving will be my big debut!
10-26-04 Gosh, it's been nearly 3 months. How time flies!! -73#! Doing great! Went to Hawaii and had no problems at all. The flight was great too! No seating problems.
8-24-04
Doing very well now. Almost 4 weeks out and have lost 37#!
8-6-04
I'm on the other side, finally! Things are going well. I was in the hospital at Barix for 4 days and they were really wonderful. I'm home now and doing very well. Glad to be a loser!!
7-28-04
Well, one more day and then it's on to a new life. Everyone has been so wonderful on this site...THANKS!!
7-19-04 Yea!!! I've got a date! It's next week!! I can hardly believe it. I have waited for insurance etc. for so long and now I get a date in just one week! (doing the Snoopy Happy Dance here) So next Friday July 30th I'll get to become a loser...in the best possible sense!
7-16-04
OK! Dr. Vig signed off and is ready to do my surgery. Come Monday I'll have a date and will be ready to rejoice!!!
7-7-04
ARRRRGGGGHHH! Dr. Vig is on vacation so my date can't be made till he's back and signs off. Waiting, waiting.... At least he'll be rested up when he does my surgery!!
7-2-04
I'm playing the Halleluja Chorus today!!! Finally, after 3 months of waiting, interceding on my own behalf, and numerous phone calls and faxes, I have been approved by CIGNA!!
It's amazing how long it's taken. Mostly it has taken this long because follow up was not as up to par as it should have been from Barix. My advice is that if it takes more than 30 days, begin calling and make ABSOLUTELY sure they have ALL of your information.
Surgery date will be first week of August unless there's a cancellation. I hope so. I have a Hawaii vacation scheduled for October!!
6-28-04
Still waiting for CIGNA to respond. They lost my information three different times and then only sent part of it to their outside review company InterCorp. InterCorp has assured me that there will be a decision within 15 days (which is this week). How frustrating this all is, but I pray it is all worth it in the end.
2-5-04
Well, I'm further along now. I had my sleep evaluation last night and all went well. I have my other appointments for Psych. Eval., Nutritional Eval., and my Primary Care doc next week. Then we will be able to submit everything to CIGNA and wait.
I'm ready, I'm ready! Let's go!!!
I met with BTC on 1-15-04. They were very nice, professional and made me feel very comfortable. My surgeon is Dr. Viglianco. He too was nice. I only have to fulfill my insurance company's approval process and then I'm good to go. That's just get my medical records and the psychological consult done.
I am hoping my surgery to be in March 2004.

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: James P. Viglianco, M.D., F.A.C.S.
From my first visit with Dr. Viglianco (Dr. Vig as we call him) I was impressed and felt very comfortable. He's a wonderful, compassionate man. Now, he greets me with a hug and a warm smile.
His office staff were also comfortable and very professional.
Future patients should know that Dr. Vig is one of the best surgeons around. He truly cares for his patients and is gentle and funny too.
Aftercare is of utmost importance to Dr. Vig and the Barix family. It is a wonderful program that begins way before surgery and continues after. The before and aftercare includes nutritionists, internal medicine physician, pulmonary techs and any one else you need. They were extremely thorough which made me feel very good. They give you a great notebook that gives you step by step instructions from the first day through 6 months and on. You are also encouraged to attend a monthly support group which has been wonderful and extremely helpful, before surgery and after.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Vig and Barix Clinix as THE #1 WLS program in Columbus!
Insurer Info:
CIGNA, PPO
This was originally submitted March 22nd. So far it has been over 60 days. I have been assured that it would be just 2 more weeks several times. Finally, I have gotten a file number from their outside determination group IntraCorp.
You must continue to bother them weekly or you won't get anywhere. Remember the squeeky wheel story? This is exactly what needs to happen with CIGNA! Many people told me this, and sure enough that's where I am.
In addition, so far, Barix people have not been aggressive either with the insurance company. YOU must take charge and be your own advocate. They have many others to attend to. I kept my "specialist" up to date on my communication with CIGNA, but if I didn't push both CIGNA and Barix things won't get done.
This has been my personal experience and my advice to anyone else who has this particular insurance.
