MAY 1, 2003 Hello! I am 24 years old and have battled with weight my whole life. I have severe and chronic asthma, and in the past year have gone on prednisone several times. I usually gain 10-15 pounds after being on high doses of the strong medicine, and never lose it (I get depressed about the weight gain, and hence eat to instantly gratify myself. I just can't seem to stop the cycle of eating, binging, getting depressed, eating again.... It's scary, because I have become somewhat of a hermit and rarely go out to party and have fun anymore due to my insecurity of the weight gain. I can see myself getting to 3 or 4 hundred pounds if I do not do something to help give me a jump start. This is why I am so excited about the surgery, but a little nervous too, of course!
JUNE 3, 2004 Hi! I am about 3 weeks post op and feel great. I have lost a little over 20 lbs. and things are going well. I eat a steady diet of cotage cheese, yogurt and Slim Fast low carb shakes (which are great!)
It is now October 17th, and I am down a total of about 70 pounds. I can't believe how easy the road has been, and how good I feel. The lap-band, I truly believe, saved my life.
Today is Dece, ber 6th, and I am down about 80 lbs. and weigh about 180. I have been having daily heart burn that is somewhat painful, and not sure what is causing this! But other than that, I am feeling good.
It is now September 15th, 2005 (about 16 months since my surgery). I have lost about 112 lbs. and feel great. I had a few problems along the way--I had to have my gallbladder taken out (as I had gallstones, which many people who lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time get), and I have heartburn from time to time. All in all however, things are great! It has been a great and exciting journey--and the problems I have had are nothing compared to the joy I feel. I would highly reccomend this surgery to anyone who is considering weight loss surgery!
April 10th, 2006: I am still feeling great. I have had a little trouble keeping my portions small enough (My brain is still an overeater!) but for the most part, everything is going well. I weigh about 150 lbs. and have been about this weight for almost a year. I feel good, and my mind is slowly starting to believe that I am not heavy anymore. I have a little extra skin, and that always makes me feel larger than I am. I am so thankful, I never thought wls would bring me and so many others this level of success.
