Lap VBG on 6/28/2001

6-24-2001 I am 3 days from surgery and very scared. I need support
from those of you that have been there. Anyone out there had a Lap VBG?
I need to know what to expect on Thursday afternoon, When I wake up.
How much pain will I be in? I am really worried about this as I am
a whimp when it comes to pain.

6-28-2001 Well today is the day!!!! It is 4:45 amd I am up, can't get
back to sleep. Surgery time was moved up to 9:50, so now I need to be
at the hospital at 8:00 am. I am sooooooo scared and yet excited.
My bags are packed and the kids will be going to school and day care
early. I know it will be an emotional goodbye. My dad called me last
nite to wish me luck and I started crying. I am so emotional right now.
I have fears of the pain I will be in, and yes even of dying, but I know
I am in good, very capable hands with Dr Spivak. I guess it wouldn't
be normal if I didn't have some fears. Well it will all be over in a
matter of hours now, and I will be joining those of y'all that are
on the otherside. I can't wait to start my new life. I JUST WISH I
COULD HAVE A DRINK OF WATER, LOL!!!!!!!!!

6/30/2001 I just got home form the hospital. Recovery has not been so bad so far. I am amazed at how I am
not hungry at all. I have to force myself to drink the yogurt or
protien shakes and even then I can only take 1 or 2 oz. I am drinking
lots of water though. When did y'all start your vitamins? I hate this drain line it hurts and gets in the way.
I will be glad to have this out on Friday. I have to be on full liquids for 2 weeks, then soft solids for 4 weeks.
Then i can add regular food as tolerated. I better go lay down, will update again as I am able.

7/2/2001 I am getting around much better now. I am now 4 days post op. I bought a scale yesterday and
as of today I am 188. My incisions are very very itchie, but the nurse at the hospital said that was
a sign that I was healing. Hubby helped me to shower today and damn if I still have bededine solution
all over me that is impossible to come off. We changed out some of the bandaides as they got kind
of wet and it all appears to be healing well. I still can not drink more than about an oz or 2 at a
time. I had creamy tomatoe soup today and it was heavenly. I hate this damn drain and will be very glad
when it comes out on friday. Well the 4th should be an interesting holiday. We are going to my parents
house and she bought me all kinds of liquids so I didn't have to drag stuff up there. I really can't believe
that it is all over with sometimes. I am soooo happy to be on the other side. More updates soon.

7/6/01 I went to see the doc today for my 1 week appt. I got out my drain, what a relief, the diffenence is amamzing. My pain is just about gone. They also removed my staples. I lost 11 lbs on their scale but that was at 3 in the afternoon, so I am still saying 13, 185 on my scale at home 1st thisng in the am. He said I was doing great and that he will see me again in 3 months. He told me to join a support group, and to stick with the stages he gave me for foods. Stage 1 for 1 more week, full liquids. Then stage 2, soft solids for 3 to 6 weeks. My birthday is on july 13th, the day i can start solids, wooo whooo that will be my b-day present to myself. I can eat seafood and well cooked veggies on my birthday. Well that is all for now. I am soooooo happy to have that drain out, I feel like it is all uphill now!!!!!

7/13/01

today is my birthday and my first day to eat soft solid and I got on the scale this morning and I am down another 3 lbs to 182. Happy Bithday to me.


7/15/01

I had a great b-day. We went to Joe's crab shack and I ate crab bisque and shared a boiling pot with some shrimp, crawfish and crab legs with hubby. I go back to work tomarrow. That is sad and exiting for me. I am ready to show off the slimmer me. But it has been nice staying home with the kids. Ohhh and I got on the scale and I am down to 180 now. That is 2 more lbs for a total of 18. See my pics I posted.

7/21/01

Well my loss has all but stopped from my last post. I got on the scale this morning and it finally moved. I am down to 178, lost 2 more lbs for a total of 20 lbs. I have been walking 1 1/2 miles every evening and last nite I did it in 40 min. I am so proud of myself. Pre-op I could not exercise at all.

7/28/2001 The scale finally moved again!!!!

I am 1 month post op and I am doing great. I have lost
23 lbs and lots of inches.(i did not measure pre-op) I have gone from
my size 20-22 clothes to my 18's and my 16's I can get on but they are
tight. I am walking 1 1/2 miles a day. I started out doing it in 45
min and I am down to 30 min. I am eating soft solids. My new stomache
is very picky and I have to eat REAL slow!!!! I am mostly sticking to
real mushy stuff for the time being.I have a wedding to go to tonite an

be nice to get their reactions. Will update again soon.

9-1-2001

Hello sorry I have not updated in a while but life has been busy. I am
9 weeks post op and down 33 lbs. I am now 165 and feeling super.
I will try to post a new photo, hope it works!!!

Hey everyone,

Hope all is well with everyone. My thoughts are with the rescue
efforts going on in NY. Thank goodness, all my friends and family in
NY are safe. It has been quit a week, very emotional and stressful,
but I did not resort to eating for stress relief too much. It has
seemed to pay off. I got on the scale and I am down to 160 and I
am now offically in my size 14 clothes. I am going to have to go
shopping soon. Resale shops here I come. I am not ready to buy new
stuff, as I plan to get smaller. I feel so good and am so happy.
