I got a date June 29th they cut and I am on my way to the thin person inside waiting to get out. Any advise would be welcomed 6/3 Well they have changed my surgery date. I now go on the 6/13. Geting a little nervous, nut excited also. I just hope that I can do the post-op care without feeling to much like i am depriving myself. I hope to get some energy back. I am just hoping this surgery will change my life for the better.
6/24/00 Well I am almost 2wks post and it has been more difficult than I thought it would be. The liquid diet is the pits and I do miss eating. But everyday I get better and can feel the weight coming off. My face looks thinner to me and people keep telling me I am losing weight. Even though it has been difficult for me to adjust, it is worth it. I would do it again.
7/13/00 I am now one month post. I feel so much better and have lost 45#. My activity level has increased along with my self-confidence. It is actually a joy to take a walk, Ican get my house clean and not feel like I need a nap. I actually enjoy getting out of bed in the morning. Having this surgery is the best thing I ever done. If you are researching for the first time and reading this, I say GO FOR IT, IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!!! The diet is getting easier. It is a learning experience, but well worth it.

11/13/00 I am now 5months post up and feel wonderful. I exercise daily. I have more self confidence and self esteem. I just cleaned out my closet and got rid of alot of fat clothes. It felt like a huge victory. Without this surgery I can honestly say I would still be living an agrophobic type life. I go out more, my social life has improved 10 fold. If anyone is just thinking of the surgery, I highly reccomend it, it is the best thing I have ever done.

12/25/00 Well I met my very first goal!!!! I wanted to be down 100lbs by Chritmas and I am down 105lbs. It was the first Christmas where my friends and family could buy me clothes and they actually fit. I enjoyed getting my picture taken, where before I shied away from them. It was a little hard with all the goodies around, but I was able to enjoy a few bites here and there and found out it wasn't such a big deal afterall not to eat the whole plate of cookies. I was blessed this Christmas with love, friends and family and was able to really enjoy them without my weight being an issue, I am thankful for that.

I got my Christmas wish this year. I am 105lbs thinner thanks to weight loss surgery, and still shrinking.

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Harry C. Sax, M.D., F.A.C.S.
My surgeon is Dr. Harry Sax in Rochester NY. My first impression is that of a quiet man who pulls no punches. On my first appointment he asked questions on why I was overweight. Went into great detail that the surgery was no picnic and if I had throughly thought it through. When I assured him I had, he gave me literature and made the appointment with the psychologist. I had my appoinment with Dr. Nickels on April 24. He just again wanted to know why I overeat, if anything in my past caused me to indulge in food etc. After my appoinment with him, I again saw Dr. Sax who reiterated the dangers and the hardships of the sugery. I assured him understood and that it was what I wanted. We went ahead and made the appointment for surgery. He is very blunt about what is expected of me after surgery. He also explained to me that surgery was not a "cure all" that it requires a commitment to the diet and exercise program to be successful. Without this commitment he would not even bother doing surgery. I will have to follow with him for at least three years. I was impressed with his no nonsense attitude.
Insurer Info:
Independant Health of WNY, Encompass
When I started out I thought I would be denied. I was suprised at how easy it was. After seeing my primary doctor, he wrote for approval. Approval to see Dr. Sax came about 2weeks after. After I met with Dr. Sax approval for the psychologist took about a week. Final approval for the actual surgery took about 1/2hr after Independant Health received all the information from the surgeon and psych doctor. All in all it was a very pleasant experience.
