Hi; As I write this, it is about 1:45pm on Tuesday. Dawn had a lot of problems yesterday, but mainly with quality of care issues and with IV's. They tried 7 times yesterday to get IV's going with the end result that they gave up trying and let her have clear liquids until midnight (from about 10:30pm or so). I went up to visit her last night as did Carol (F). Dawn told me after we left, she was straightening up her blankets and found a needle on the end of her bed... good thing we didn't sit on it!!! Once again, Dawn thought she would get a CAT scan done today, once again they decided to try something else. They decided to do an endoscopy instead. But first they needed to try and get an IV line going, they had someone come over from Anesthesiology who tried twice to know avail, then they got someone from General Surgery that ended up being successful. They are hoping she can keep it in for at least six hours. They did do the Endoscopy, Dawn got back to her room about 1:30pm. The endoscopy showed some small ulcers in the small intestines, close to where the lower stoma is. Those are treatable with medication. So at this point Dawn is hoping that is all that is wrong. She will probably spend another night (tonight) there at the hospital and see how things go. So... that's the latest on Dawn... keep her in your thoughts and prayers! - Kris

Hi; I spoke to Dawn today, she is in the hospital. She was admitted last night about 7pm for severe abdominal pain. The doc originally said he thought it was either a partially obstructed bowel or a hernia. Last night they talked as if they were going to do a CAT scan today, but Dawn had an easy night and they decided to just do an ultrasound. The ultrasound didn't show anything (however, on an xray yesterday, something looked out of the ordinary). they were talking about sending her home if the ultrasound looked okay, but then Dawn started having some more cramping and spasms today. She was worried about going home and not being able to eat or drink. So... at this point she is still in the hospital, will be spending the night there and then they will be doing the CAT scan tomorrow. Dawn has had a lot of difficulty with IV's today... five times to get one working, she kept "blowing them." It has been a fairly painful day, needless to say! The last one was hurting a lot... until they stopped the potassium, so they are giving her a break from it and just trying to get her hydrated. Please continue to keep her in your prayers! I will update again tomorrow (or Melissa might update). Take care and thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts!
