NEW SURGERY DATE! March 23, 2000. 7:30am; NEW SURGEON: Dr. Eduardo Gonzales (not on 'the list', doesn't have a web-site yet, should be/should have/NEEDS TO!!!; he is in Winston Salem, NC; NEW HOSPITAL: Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC; they have already called and pre-registered me over the phone.

No fault of Dr.Rutledge's or his office...the hospital (Durham Regional) called the day before my original surgery date to say that I should bring $1200 when I registered the next day! (found out this week that the hospital had a new code that they had not given to the doctors's offices regarding insurance filing)....SHORT VERSION: we have 4 children and we do not keep$1200 just laying around...so I had to cancel...this sent me into a deep depression...(I am almost afraid to even think about my new date and dream of a thinnner me because of the trauma of experience with the other hospital...)

A friend called, Dreama (who's had the surgery with Dr. G.)called and told me about Dr. Eduardo Gonzales, an old student of Dr Rutledge's, and that he works at a hospital nearer my home (Forsyth Medical Center, in Winston Salem)...my insurance pays for all of it, the doc and the hospital! PRAISE THE LORD!

Dr. G and his nurse, Connie, are wonderful!...real sweeties and down to earth! True bright spots in this world!

I am a 38 year old mother of 4...320lbs...5"3'...very involved with the children...they are truly a blessing sent straight from God-a challenging blessing-but a wonderfully loving and full of life blessing...husband is a marathoner...children are all on the swim team (I help coach)...they do not seemed bothered by my massive bulk but it concerns me a great deal...God will have answered my life long prayer of "help for me with obesity"--I do not have to be skinny/thin/small;I just want to be normal size...whatever that is...
I hope to have an MGB (mini gastric bypass) with Dr. Eduardo Gonzales, Winston Salem, NC. I'm just waiting...I am ready...NO FEAR! NO FEAR!
I'm a christian and I believe in prayer. Over Christmas, I read some really disturbing entries from those who did not want prayer...Just want you to know, I'm a believer of the Lord Jesus Christ, God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and I WANT prayer...I NEED prayer...I also pray...
I teach and participate in water aerobics and swimming at the YMCA. I like to draw and write. I love the beach and my husband! :)) (Not necessarily in that order!)
I hope to some day run in a race with him (my husband)...maybe a 5K or more...BUT NOT AT THIS WEIGHT!!!!
KEEP ME AND MY FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS, PLEASE! (My husband is afraid that I might die and leave him with 4 children to raise! I tried to explain that he wouldn't get off that easy, Lord Willing! lol:)))

Surgeon Info:
Dr. Eduardo Gonzales of Winston Salem, NC operates at Forsythe Hospital, is a student of Dr.Robert Rutledge's of Durham,NC...seems genuinely interested in helping those of us who truly are at the end of our search...he has aswered my questions immediately and throughly...my impression may change; his nurse, Connie, was very nice and helpful...has already called me back... Dr. G is also interested in what happens after the fat is lost...what to do with hanging skin...who to remove it...which operation is the best for which part of the body, etc.... Plus, my insurance copy will pay for it all! Dr. Rutledge is the better surgeon for the minigastric bypass, but my insurance will not pay 100% of the hospital stay...so~~~I'll go with Dr G and where my insurance will pay...
Insurer Info:
Tricare, Standard
The people that I dealt with were very nice and tried to their best ability to help. Yes, I think there is some stalling; maybe to see how important it is or how serious the person is, about having the surgery. They definately responded to persistence. They even remembered my voice and callec me by my name after two weeks of calling at all hours of the day and night! I'd recommend to others with TRICARE to call frequently. To know their policy, so that they'll a list know what to expect when talking with someone about the surgery and insurance coverage. AND, get everything in writing...your/their requests, acceptance, remittance, etc.
