After 30 years of carrying around this excess baggage, i have finally come to my adult senses (with the help of my PCP) and "WANT" to get this done. thus far i have set up a consultation appt with a surgeon whom was recommended by a friend. i am searching the web and support groups and speaking with others who have had the rny procedure.
Met with my surgeon on Jan 29th 2002 and in less than 10 days i was approved by my insurance. It was a terrific feeling and another step closer.
Presently I am 4 days out and in the final stages of pre-op testing.
Scheduled was moved from 3-13-02 to 3-15-02.. I just got home a half hour ago and it feels GREAT TO BE BACK HOME!!!
I did have some complications.....slight amount of renal failure, a small leak that healed itself and now a low grade temp that only comes out at night.
UPDATE: Sorry I really havent updated.....It is January 1 2004 and in a few months I will be approaching my TWO YEAR POST OP CELEBRATION. Wow, how the time flies. I have lost 290lbs and maintained my loss since May 2003.
All in all, it has been a long road. I had some complications post op with renal failure, being blocked twice and vein access issues. However, all of these problems were just the hurdles to the better life I am living. I LOVE IT!!!! No grets at all, I would highly recommend and do it all over again.

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Richard P. Lewis
***Please note that my surgeon was DR. RICHARD P. LEWIS from Pittsburgh PA***
Dr Lewis was very nice and sincere. I have only had the pleasure of meeting him at my surgical consult. Next I will be seeing him the morning of my surgery. He explains the process, the risk and the outcome of the procedure.
His staff is very helpful in answering all of my questions and working with my insurance company.
Thanks to all!
UPDATE: I was finally released by my surgeon in October 2003...nearly 1.5 years after my surgery. Thasnk you Dr. Lewis for giving me a new life.
Insurer Info:
USHealthcare, aetna
My surgeon's office did all of the work and for them and my insurance, I AM GREATFUL!! It was only 10 days or so after my surgical consult that I was approved. I called my insurance company every other day just to check on the status of the approval. I even called twice when the first rep told me that I was approved! They were very helpful.
Thank you
