I am scheduled for surgery on 8/14/02, I am both scared and excited, I can't wait until I start to feel better. I can't wait until I can get rid of my Cpap machine, I hate that thing.

8/9 Well I am down to five days now, still very excited and nervous at the same time. Went for my final preop visit on Monday Had lost 10lb. Met the anestiologist on Wednesday for pre op. That went well also.

Thanks to everyone who has posted me a message, I appreciate all of the prayers and good wishes a person can never have too many.

8/18

Well I am home from the hospital and doing pretty well. I am now getting 2 oz of liquids an hour and tomorrow I get to go to 3 ozs. I haven't take but one pain pill since Friday in the hospital. The nurses at the hospital were wonderful, I can't say enough nice things about them. They were very caring and attentative. I was in surger a little longer than Dr Bour had planned I had some adhesions that he wasn't expecting. I spent the first day in ICU which all of Dr Bours patients do and then I was moved to a regular room. I was up walking the next day and it really feels better to walk. I came home on Sat morning and took a real shower and it was wonderful. Nothing like sleeping in you own bed and taking a bath in your own bathroom. So far I think I have lost 6 lbs. It is amazing that I am not even hungry......

10/2 Been very busy haven't had time to post.
7 weeks today and 42 lbs lighter. I am exercising and I feel great. I wish I had done this years ago. I had my BMI checked today and it has gone from a 46 to 38.

5/6 It has been awhile since I have posted, I have been very busy enjoying the new me. I have now lost 130 pounds. I am now wearing size 14 pants and they are starting to get a little big. I am only 15 pounds away from my goal. I am still feeling great, my blood pressure is lower than it has been in years. My BMI is down to a 27, it no longer says Obese and that feels great. I am still exercising alot, I have been walking and doing Yoga and Jazzexercise, I now have energy to keep up with my 4 year old most of the time.

6/27 I am now lost 139 pounds and still feeling great. I bought some new pants and they are a 12, (who woud have thought I would have ever been in a 12) I am down to what I weighed in high school 23 years ago. It is so good to look at the BMI chart and it says DESIERABlE. It is very funny now when people that I have known for years that haven't seen me for awile, I will pass on the street and not know who I am.

I am so glad I had this surgery, it was the best 40th birthday present I could have given myself.

10/18 I am not at my goal of 160 pounds. I still feel great. I have completed two 5k walk/runs. I went with several other patients from our support group to Atlanta to do the Walk from Obesity, we had a blast. I finished in 44:07 not bad. I was proud of my self. We are hoping to set up a Walk from Obesity here in Greenville for next year. I will keep eveyone posted. I also did the race for the cure here in Greenville and finished that one in 40:39. I was very proud of myself for that. I hope next year to run the whole 5k and cut alot more time off.

I am still so glad I did this, I have a new life and it is great, I have more energy than I have had in years. I do a much better job of keeping up with my little girl who will be 5 in Dec.

12/16/02

It has been awhile since my last post. I am now down to 155 pounds and I still feel great. I had plastic surgery on 11/18. I had a breast/reduction/lift to remove all of the excess skin. I am very pleased with the results. I am still vrey glad that I had this surgery and would do it again in a heart beat!

I have felt very comfortable with Dr Bour, he is very caring. I liked him from the begining. He is very funny. My husband also liked him, he thought he was very informative also. The staff has been wonderful and very helpful. So far I have not found anything I don't like about him. I liked the fact that he sat and talked with me. I also liked the fact that he answered his email, I had sent him a question and he answered me. He also ask me when he saw me the next time if I had received his answer. That made me feel like I was just not another number, I have been to some doctors that they could care less, Dr Bour did not make me feel that way. I have ask several people about him and he has an excellent reputation. My family Dr said he has sent many patients to him for other surgies because he is one of the best in town with a laprascope. I am the first patient of my General Practioner that is having this done locally and he seems very excited for me. He said he had been copied on everything that Dr Bour has done. They have a very strict after care program Dr Spearman is also very nice and very easy to talk to. The support meetings have been very helpful to me. I have met a lot of great people. We have all became like family.

I was very lucky, there is another lady in the pre surgery group who's husband works for the same company I do. He had already done all of the run around with them. When I got my denial letter, I called him and got names of people he had talked to. I called them and the next day she called me back and said it was approved. I think all of the insurance companies will denie on the first request just to see if you are serious. Keep after them. Mine has told me they will pay 100% after my deductible.
