It is July 10, 1999, I am going into hospital this friday to have the Verticle Banded Gastroplasty done. I would like to be involved in a support group for sharing information on this procedure and be able to ask questions if they arise. I hope to be as sucessful as what I see and hear. I am 36 years old and weigh 368 lbs. And I hope this will help save my life. I was just diagnosed with Diabetes and have liver and heart problems, so I need to loose this weight forever.

Hi My name is Mark,I am Sherie's husband.I'm sure you all would like to know how Sherie is doing.
First let me say thank you to everyone, who has sent e-mails or cards to her.We the family thank you very much.I know I have not updated her file for you to
read.Sorry about that.Reason being is cause i had no idea of what i would, should,or could say to you people.so here goes.
Today is August 11 2000.Yes it has been over a year now.Sherie has traveled a road that not very many people return from.
Sherie was in a coma for almost 4 and 1/2 months.I was told she would never regain consciousness. If she did she would more then likely be in a vegitable state. Then I was told she would not have a very good quality of life.
Well I am proud to say.She has overcome a ventolator,a feeding tube, and has regained almost complete memory. She knows everyone from her past. The only things she can not remember is the day of her surgery.Which also includes her state of coma.So as from Late March or early April of 2000.She remembers also.
Right now she is in the Jim Thorpe rehab.Hospital.She has been there for about 3 weeks now.She is having a very difficult time in regaining back the use of her body.It will be a very long road for her.It is up to her to fight for what was lost.Due to the problems from the surgery and the coma.
No!!! Not even to this day have i been told exactly what did occur.Yes i have people looking into it. That s all I can say about that.
She now weighs around the 220 range.Doing very good in her eating habits.Due to the lenth of her not eating for over a year. She is still on purie foods.Slowly getting into a harder form of food.As with this delay in eting, yes she also has the dumping syndrom. But, doing very well other wise.
I'm sure you have a lot of other questions. That you would like to have answered.I wish i could take the time to answer all of them.Sorry about that.
I would like to close by sayng.Thank you once again for keeping Sherie in your prayers.Me and the kids are doing fine now.WE Have learned to adjustto our new surroundings. It toke a very long time to except what has happened. We are fine and thank you from the bottom of your hearts.
I hope this has answered some of your questions. Please feel free to write back. But I can not promise to return all e-mails.So be a little patint with me please.

Mark and Family

I spent one full year tring to get this surgery approved. I met all the criteria for health reasons but they wanted more alternatives tried first. I appealed twice and threatened with an attorney and they overturned the decision finally yesterday.
