2003

12/13/03
I have an appointment to get blood tests and EKG. My evaluation is set for 2/9 & 10. Woo Hoo.

2004

1/12/04
My evaluation packet is in the mail. I have my referral from my primary. My initial blood work is done. Everything is ready for 2/9 & 10. Then I'll just be waiting for the insurance approval. It's going fast, but seems like it's taking forever.

2/12/04
Had my appointments with the dietician, psychologist, physical therapist and surgeon. All systems are go. Waiting for insurance approval. Woo hoo.

3/5/04
Called today, paperwork still hasn't been sent to insurance company. They are waiting to get the psych eval.

3/26/04
Called today, my paperwork was mailed 3/11/04 and guess what? I'M APPROVED :-) YEAH, HAPPY DANCE. The women who does the scheduling is out so I'm not schedueld yet but hopefully, I'll know more next week.

4/8/04 - Had the pre-op visit, the nurse went over everything. They think I will have to have an awake for the intubation.

4/15 - is the big day! Woo hoo!

4/19/04 - The surgery went fine. Barnes is not a great hospital. You get very little attention. If you don't have someone with you to take care of you. I consistently told them I couldn't breathe and they still discharged me on the 18th and I was back at the ER the next day with blood clots in my lungs and left leg. The whole experience has been draning. Quite an ordeal.

5/26/04 - I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted. According to the scale at work I've lost 42 pounds. It will be 6 weeks on Thursday and I go to the doctor on Friday. Then I will get my official weight. I'm still very tired. Not to much pain in my stomach anymore. I'm back at work part time. I'll be glad when I get some energy back.

Starting - 340 - Now - 298

6/11/04 - 340/285 (I've lost 55 pounds and finally have some energy back!) I'm going to try and start and exercise program within the next week.

7/4/04 - 340/273 (I've lost 67 pounds!) (12 pounds this month). My blood pressure is very low and I'm off all my blood pressure medication. Woo hoo! Current BMI is 44.1 - Wow! Down from 54.9 in only 11 weeks!

8/6/04 - 340/258 (I've lost 82 pounds!) (15 pounds this month). I'm off the blood pressure meds. Current BMI is 41.6. I'm swimming at the YMCA and feeling good. I can't wait till I get to the century club.

9/4/04 - 340/245 (I've lost 95 pounds!) (13 pounds this month). I'm halfway to my goal. The weight loss is slowing down but that's ok, because I'm still loosing a significant amount every month. Maybe I'll be at my goal by April.

9/20/04 - I don't usually post in the middle of the month, but....it's official. I'M NOW A MEMBER OF THE CENTURY CLUB. I'VE LOST 100 POUNDS. YEAH, HOORAY, HAPPY DANCE. 340/240 - goal 150.

10/6/04 - 340/234 (I've lost 106 pounds!) (11 pounds this month).
I can definetly eat more now. I have to start exercising.

11/1/04 - 340/222 (I've lost 118 pounds!) 12 pounds this month).
Yeah!

12/1/04 - 340/215 (I've lost 125 pounds!) Only 7 pounds this month (that's ok - it is one under what the weight loss planner graph says I should have lost. I'm going to increase my protien, I've been slacking off a little and see if that helps.

2005

1/1/04 - 340/200 (I've lost 140 pounds!) 15 pounds this month - Woo hoo! That's up from 7 last month. The increase in protien obviously helped a lot. I feel great. Things are going great in my life. I got a great job in Louisville and I'm very excited about moving to another state and meeting new people who never new I was obese. It will really be incredible. I'm almost to ONEDERLAND!

2/1/04 - 340/184 (I've lost 156 pounds!) 16 pounds this month -
Woo hoo! All I can say is protien, protien, protien. I'm had to have emergency hernia surgery on an umbilical hernia last week. All went well, no blood clots. I'm driving to Louisville tomorrow and start my new job next Monday. It will be nice to go somewhere where they never knew I was obese.

3/1/04 - 340/174 (I've lost 166 pounds!) 10 pounds this month-
Woo hoo! I'm surprised I'm still loosing!

4/15/05 - 340/172 (I've lost 168 pounds!) today is my one year anniversary! Things are definetly slowing down. I'm on track to loose 90% of my excess body fat which means I will wind up at 162, I will be happy with that! :-)

5/1/05 - 340/165 - (I've lost 175 pounds!) 7 pounds this month. It is getting harder and I'm slipping back into my old bad eating habits. This has to be a new month for me!.

6/1/05 - 340/156 - (I've lost 184 pounds!) 9 pounds this month. I had my one year check up and the doctor said I won't loose much more, but I'm happy with that.

7/1/05 - 340/150 (I've lost 190 pound!) 6 pounds this month. I can't believe I'm still loosing weight. I want to think about having plastic surgery, but don't really have enough sick time built up. I'm thrilled with my weight loss. I need to update my pictures.

8/1/05 - 340/145 (I've lost 195 pounds!) 5 pounds this month. I think I'm done loosing.

9/1/05 - 340/143 (I've lost 197 pounds!) 2 pounds this months. I think I'm really done loosing. I'm wearing a size 10 pants and an 8 or medium shirt. (from a size 32 it's awesome). I feel pretty good, but I'm having trouble with hypoglycemia and lactose intolerance. I don't really want to loose any more weight. Staying at this weight would be perfect. I still need to exercise more. It has always been my downfall. It has been a great journey!

10/1/05 - 340/138 - (I've lost 202 pounds!) 5 pounds this month. I'm a little worried that I'm still loosing so much and seeing a specialist.

Noveber 1, 2005 - 340/130 - (I've lost 210 pounds) 8 pounds this months. I'm concerned that I'm still loosing so much weight and trying to get in to see a dietician to get some food suggestions on what to eat.

12/22/05 - Well I'm weighing in at 129. Maybe I'm actually going to stabilize. I go see the surgeon when I'm in St. Louis next week. I have been eating to much sugar and not exercising enough. New Year's Resolutions are coming.

Hospital Reviews

  • (St. Louis, MO) - Barnes-Jewish Hospital

  • Surgeon Info:
    Surgeon: J. Chris Eagon
My first impression was that he was warm and caring. After my surgery my impression changed completely. He only came to see me in the hospital once and was very dismissive when I told him I was having trouble breathing. I basically pawned me off on the residents who were horrible and didn't listen to me at all. I told them repeatedly I couldn't breathe, they never listened and eventually dishcarged me. I left and went to another ER and had several blood clots in my lungs and one in my leg. I easily could have had a stoke, heart attack or died. While I was in the second hospital (Eagon didn't go there) my doctor did my leak test and pulled my drain. When I got out I call Dr. Eagon to see when he wanted to see me and he said 6 weeks. I felt like he didn't give a damn about me. Overall I would rate him very poor and say he is in it for the money. The nurses at Barnes suck, you get terrible treatment, his surgical competence seems to have been good. Thank God for something. It seems like an idiot could have figured out I had blood clots.
