7/21/03 Well- I'm 5 days post-op and feeling pretty good. Everything went well, without complications and I am home now. I don't remember anything about the surgery, just waking up in my room and my new life starts from there. I am having a little trouble with the binding I'm supposed to wear- I apparently am allergic to it and the itching is driving me crazy. I'm going to try to wear it over my shirt today, maybe that will help. I'm having no trouble with giving myself the shots and am following the clear liquid diet. So far-So good. I can call and get my staples out on the 30th. That will be really great! Gotta go- lots of luck to all of you waiting- just try to be patient and keep yourself busy (I know- it's hard).

7/29/03 Got staples out yesterday- what a relief! I feel so much better- I can get around so much easier without them pulling. I lost 16 lbs since surgery on 7/16/03- not too bad! I am working on walking more and more as I have much more energy since starting my protein and vitamins. I don't feel the need for a midday nap anymore either. I'm starting on soft puree foods- like instant mashed potatoes(really watery) and some baby food peas. I add a little beef broth to the potatoes- so in my mind it's almost like beef, mashed potatoes and peas. Tastes pretty darn good after all the liquids stuff.(Everything seemed so sweet tasting- turned me off to sweets for a good long while.)My pouch holds between 2-4 ozs- so I am trying to get organized so that I get all the meals in, plus the protein and water I need. It seems that 2oz is plenty for me at the present. I don't push it because I feel full at that. I watch everything for sugar content- and have had no dumping or vomiting. I feel really great!

    Surgeon: Renato Simon, M.D.
I found out about Dr. Simon when I contacted the Liv-Lite center, located at Kane Community Hospital, in Kane PA. They took care of everything to do with my insurance company, got my approval and called me to set up my pre-op testing. As part of the consultation part, Dr. Simon talks to you about the risks and explains (very well) the procedure. He has a great sense of humor and talks very plainly to you about everything. He is also a surgeon who does the pre-op EGD himself, as he wants to see for himself what he's getting into. He sets you completely at ease, without letting you forget the surgery is a very, very invasive procedure. I haven't had surgery yet, scheduled date is July 16, so I don't know about his surgical competence yet, but I sure hope it's great! I will update after and let everyone know. 7/21/03- I've had surgery now and I can say that Dr. Simon's skills as a surgeon are exceptional. His bed side manner is upbeat and he is truly a caring physician-from pre-op to post-op- he's great all the way!!!
