I was very afraid in the beginning, but as the surgery came closer, I was calm. I am now post-op and looking forward to getting "there".

APRIL 9, 2003
It is now 2 years after my surgery and I am feeling like a normal person. I sometimes I forget I was 265 lbs. I still have to watch what I eat and take care of myself, but I feel eveyone should with or without the surgery.

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Jeffrey Berger, M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Berger was that he was straight forward and honest. He is a very busy man but still had the time for me. On top of that his staff is wonderful. The head nurse, Andrea, is always answering my questions with patience and care. If I could change anything, it would be that I could talk to Dr. Berger more, but I do understand he is busy, and again, Andrea is awesome. Future patients should know that this office works hard and gets a lot done for you, especially when it comes down to the insurance aspect of the process. When I had my first meeting with the doc he told me straight out about the risks, which told me he was all for being blunt, which I like. Overall, he and his staff are highly recommended from me. I feel that surgical competence AND bedside manner are both a crucial part of your experience, and this staff had it!
Insurer Info:
Sentara, HMO
Sentara is a very good insurance company to have. They are always trying to get to you as fast as they can. There stall time is the typical period for an insurance company, so you really do not wait long. I have never had to be persistent with this insurance company. When you have any type of insurance, make sure you research them as much as possible. Make sure that it fits your needs, and if there is more than one plan, research them all!
