I have attempted to lose weight for over 10 years with no success keeping it off, only to gain more back. I'm sure alot of people could say the same. My hopes are that my life will change after surgery and I will be able to do alot of the things I can't do now such as riding a bike, hiking swimming etc. It will feel so good not to be in pain all the time. I will be starting the process for surgery on Nov 28 at an informational seminar with Dr. Bonnani's office in Reading PA. I will keep you up to date when I get a date.

11/17/01 Yesterday I was anxious to find out if my DH insurance(BCBS Basic) covers the surgery and they will. I'm soooo excited. I hope after I meet for initial consultation that I get a date right away because of there not being any hassles from the insuance company.

11/28/01 Attended Dr. Bonnani's informational seminar. It was very good. Also scheduled my first consult with the nurse. It is scheduled for December 5th. Hope things go smoothly.

12/5/01 Went for my first consultation with the nurse today. We went over alot of information, got weighed in( more then I expected to weigh), and scheduled my consult with Dr. Bonanni for January 31st. That seems so far away. I also have to go get weighed in every 2 weeks to make sure I don't gain anything. I am borderline for the lap surgery so I am going to try to loose 25 lbs before surgery so I will definately qualify. My BMI has changed to 51. YUK!!!

1/30/02. Well nothing was going on for awhile until 1/28. Met with the nutritionist and she had alot of good advise. Tomorrow I will meet with the surgeon for the first time. I will find out if I'm a canidate for Lap and I will also get a date. Thank GOD!!! Will update tomorrow after appointment.

1/31/02 Today I had my surgeon consult with Dr. Bonnani. He was extremely nice as is the rest of his staff. He states that I may get the lap procedure which makes me so excited because I have a 17 month old son and the pain will be less then the open. I also got my date...April 16th. I cannot wait, to be on the way to a smaller person, one without pain and more self confidence. I am also sceduled to see a pulmonary specialist due to my history of asthma. A psychiatric eval is also going to be scheduled.

3/13/02 Haven't updated for awhile. Since last entry, I completed my pulmonary tests, psychiatric and any other tests that needed to be done. I also went through a tonselectomy 3 weeks ago. Nothing like PAIN!!!! Anyway, All tests are completed and I will be going for my pre admission tests on March 27. I have my pre-op appointment with Dr. Bonanni on April 1st. Only 5 weeks till surgery, and I can't wait.

3/19/02 Called my insurance today and was told it was APPROVED yesterday and they sent my surgeon a letter. YEAH...

3/27/02 Completed my pre admission testing today. We are ready to go now.

4/1/02 Saw Dr. Bonanni for the last time before the big day in 2 weeks. All is good and ready to roll. Wish me luck.

4/2/02 Got a call today from the DR's office and they are pushing my surgery up a week to next Tuesday April 9th. I ahve alot to do to make the change work.

4/12/02 I'm Home. I am 3 days post op and feeling pretty good. I had lap surgery on 4/9/02 at St. Joseph's. Was in surgery for 3 hours and in recovery for 6 because they did not have a room available for me right away. I got awake at 12:30PM and surgery was at 7:30. When I got back to my room it was worth the wait because I had a private room. I felt pretty crappy the 1st but still got up to walk once. The next day was way better and it just kept getting easier after that. I think what helped was the walking every 2 hours and breathing deeply 10 times every hour. On Thursday I had 1/4 cup beef broth and it tasted soooo good. I've kept all liquids down so far. Tonight 4/12 I took my pill meds and they stayed down too. I was so worried to take them because of having to take a big gulp of water. I have gained some weight but I know its fluid because I am so bloated. The only area on me that hurts is the place the drain came out of. It's sore. My stomach area feels like I did 1,000,000 sit ups and it also feels like monthly cramps. I know I will feel better every day. Well I'm getting tired sitting here typing so I will update again tomorrow. Thanks for all emails and nice words of encouragement

4/30/02 It has been 3 weeks since my surgery and I've lost 25 lbs. Sometimes I think it is slow losing but as long as I continue to lose I don't care. I am back to work and back to my self. I feel great. I am having a hard time with the puree diet and cannot wait to eat real food.

5/20/02 Doing really well. Eating is no fun anymore. I really dread having to. Things for the most part have been staying down pretty well with the exception of steak. I have had dumping a few times but only the sick feeling. I still have to watch what I eat and stay away from salty foods. I retain too much fluid. Overall, I feel good, have more energy, am exercising 5 days a week on the treadmill for 20 minutes. I'm happy I did this.

8/30/02 It has been awhile since my last update... I am now down 82 lbs and feel great. It is so weird to be in a size 18. I am having a really good time with wearing new clothes. I have no regrets what so ever that I had this surgury. I would have never been able to lose this weight and keep it off on my own. I have noticed I am able to eat more so I am trying to watch what I put into my mouth. I still don't eat sugar, bread or rice. They don't agree with me. All of my aches and pains are gone, no more acid reflux and my asthma has not been a problem since the weight came off. I am still exercising 5 days aweek 2 on the treadmill and 3 with an exercise tape( Susan Powder) remember her??? I have been getting alot of compliments and it makes your self esteem soar. Till next time LOL

10/23/02 I have been so upset lately due to the very long platue I have been on. I have only lost 4 lbs in the last 6 weeks. I hope I'm not done losing yet. I still have about 70 lbs to lose. Hopefully I could update soon with a change and better news. HELP!!!

12/22/02 It's been a while since the last update. I joined the century club on Dec. 9th and did it 1 day before my 8 months post op. I feel wonderful and am enjoying life so much more. I really do need to start working at it harder after Xmas to lose my last 50 lbs. I now I could do it. This was the best present I could have given myself ever. Loving Life. LOL Kris

1/20/03 I have been on a plataue for 2 months and it is very depressing. Today I started the atkins diet and hope it will make a difference. we'll see.
1/24/03 Well it worked, I lost 6 lbs since Monday. Yea. I am scheduled for a PS consult with Dr. Kevitch on Feb. 11. Hope things go well with that. Will update after consult.

6/2/03 Its been awhile since my last update. I have been so busy and have alot of energy. Since Jan. I have had my tummy tuck and let me tell you It looks great. I am so happy with the results. Dr. Kevitch is a sweetheart and an excellent surgeon. I have lost 10lbs of fat and extra skin so far. I am still swollen. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I recommend Dr. Kevitch very highly. I am going to post the new me soon. I am currently 187 and I don't think I will get to my goal of 150 which is ok with me. People tell me I look like I'm at that weight now. That's nice. I am going crazy clothes shopping (size 12/14) and my self esteem is rocket high. I am loving life. Will post again soon.
