i am a 38 yr old disabled mother of two children ages 19 and 15.
been happily married to a great man for 21 yrs. i have degenerate
disc disease and have had three back operations with the last one
lasting 8 hours and was a triple fusion and because of my size the
surgeon had to open me up both in the back and in the front to
reinforce the rods and bolts put in..i am in pain almost daily and
have tried and failed diets for over 15 yrs. everyday activities are
sometimes a struggle and i get depressed often because of my limitations.
after alot of research on wls, i feel this is could be the best way to
go with such a great success ratio and determination i feel if i could get at
least 100-150 lbs off of my body that my back would be able to heal itself
back to where i could one day be able to return to work. i would be able
to do things that i have not done in so many years. i know that i have to
work hard and follow the program to make it work but i am determined..
i enjoy reading the testimonies of all the people that have gone thru
this surgery and every morning i get on and read all the new members
stories and that helps me get thru the day and to keep a positive
additude about what could and one day will be me a success story to
add to your web page. thanks for the friendship and for this website, it
is truely a Godsend.......UPDATE STATUS--As of August 15th I am down 125#
which i am truely thankful for. I had my surgery Dec 21st, 1999 and it
was the best present i could of gotten and i thank the good Lord for
getting to where i am at in my life at this time. My beginning weight
was 323# and i am down to 200# and feel like a whole new person, i plan
to get down another 50# God willing as 150# is my goal weight. Anyone thinking
about this surgery, think long and hard as it is a lifetime commitment but
it also gives us a new lease on life once we get the weight off. Anyone wanting
to contact me with questions or comments please feel free to do so. thank you
for taking the time to read my profile.
Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Merlin G. Otteman M.D.
Dr. Otteman appears to be a very caring Dr. He was very blundt
with the procedure and the outcome of surgery. He answered all our
questions and discussed the pros and cons. We came away with a feeling
of being in secure hands and a very competent Dr.
He gave us plenty of times for all our questions and answered
them so we understood it. We were given a surgery
date for December 21st, 1999 MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME!!!
It is the best gift a person could give themselves.
I plan to take it and run. A new year and a new life for
the year 2000..Dr. Otteman's office staff are very
friendly and helpful and caring.
Insurer Info:
federal bcbs, ppo
dr's office dealt with them all the way and
there was no problems and no stalling was approved
within one week after consult. it has to be
medically necc. but that was not a problem for
me.
