12/31/02 well as we wait to ring in a New Year I am also waiting for my date. I am just getting a little nervous, and yet anxious for the surgery. Just got home from Texas for my Christmas with my family, and I told all of them that I am having the surgery, and all are behind me on it, one of my nieces mother had the surgery, and she told me to get ready to be looking good. my reply was I can only hope so. although I look smaller than I am I have started to wonder what I am gonna do when I loose and I have excess skin. I have seen some pictures of after for plastic surgery, and they are scarey Well would like to wish all a very good, and prosperous New Year, and wish everyone good luck with their past, future, and pending surgeries. May we all be "big losers."
1/18/03 Well I have less than 48 hrs. to go. There is a mistake on my page it says surgery is the 19th it is actually the 20th.
I am getting anxious a little. I have got my bag packed and in the car so that when I am in a room my family can bring it up. I just want to say that I appreciate each and everyone of you that have wished me well, and I want you to know that I ask God to bless you all. Everyone take care until we meet again.

2/18/03 it is exactly 4 weeks out today, and I have lost 20lbs. I went by work today, and the dr. is gonna let me go back to work for part-time for one week, and then I can go back full time. Took blood so that they can check my protein, and such. I have to increase my protein, and water intake by almost double but it is just so hard to make myself do it sometime. Well take care everyone that visits, and GOD bless.

3/2/03 Well it is almost 6 weeks out, and I have lost 26lbs. It doesn't sound like much but wow what a difference in my face. I can really tell it, and even my other half says he can tell the difference. He was never the kind that would say anything about my weight. I hadn't realized it has been so long since I have updated this page.I haven't had any bad symptoms from the surgery. I hated the pureed foods, but what can you say. I am now on regular foods I no longer have to puree, but I do chew very well it might as well be. I do have a problem with getting enough water. The nutritionist called this past week, and told me that I really need to increase my proteins that the test that was ran show that they are a little low.Well everyone have a nice day, and thanks for visiting today.

3/13/03 Well it has been 11 days since I have signed in, and although I have not officially weighed in I have lost another 3 pounds. I really am losing slow, but I guess that that is a good thing. I am eating more protein now that I can eat solid foods. I am back to work, and that is helping too because being in the office it dries out my throat and I am drinking more water. I still am not where the nutritionist wants me to be at on the water, and protein, but at least I am trying. I am still not able to do any lifting, and I am suppose to take it easy on the bending, and stretching, but I sit at a desk, and most of my work requires me to bend or stretch. I feel good, and everyone tells me that they can see the difference in my appearance. I am glad that I had the surgery. I would do it again if I had too, or if I had the chance to do it all over again. Take care everyone, and to those of you who have not had the surgery, and are wondering if it is the right thing to do please feel free to email me I will be happy to speak with you about it.May GOD bless us all.

4/17/03 Well another tax year has come and gone and I hope that all have done their taxes. Not a whole lot of news to report. I haven't been to my 3mo. check-up yet I was suppose to go on the 22nd, but the dr. office called and he has a meeting to go to so they have changed my appt. Unofficially I have lost 40lbs. To some that may not sound like much for 3 months out having had the surgery, but it sure does make a difference in the way that I feel, and look. Those of you out there that read this that haven't decided on the surgery for sure, believe me when I say that it does make a difference. I wish that I had done the surgery sooner. Have a great day, and may GOD bless you all, and keep you safe.

4/29/03 Just got in from the dr. office, and I am down a total of 45#. I was so happy when I saw the scale. My blood pressure was 111/76, and I just feel great. I hope everyone that reads this before their surgery will feel the same. I have not had any problems really. I almost feel guilty because I have been very lucky. I am dropping slowly enough I think that I am not too bad with the flabby skin. I will have to start working out more. Just wanted to share with everyone the good news. I wish all of the surgery hopefuls out there the best of luck. I also wish all the post-ops if you should read this the best of luck also. Everyone have a good day, and GOD bless you all.

7/9/03 Well this marked my 6 month check up on the 1st. although I am really only 5 1/2 months out. I am down to 169.7 pounds, and my blood pressure is 114/60 which is good. I am doing great I have had no problems with anything. I also had a check up with my Cardiologist and he said that all seems to be good with my heart, and that it sounded healthy. I am waiting on the test results from the blood that they drew, and so is the cardio he wanted to check my cholesterol just to be sure although it was only 189 before the surgery. I hope that all had a good holiday whether you are pre or post. I myself still have a goal of at least another 20 lb and I feel like I will be there by Christmas. I have gone through so many clothes that I can't believe it. Well all that visit take care, and may GOD bless us all. Good luck to you all.

7/21/03 Well I am now six months out, and I feel great. Last week I weighed in at the clinic before visiting a few of the gang that had surgery on Monday, and I had lost another 3.5 lbs. I was at a stand still there for a little while, but not anymore. My husband is glad that I have decided to finally go buy some new clothes. I had some from some time ago, but even those are starting to get too big. I don't like to spend money on clothing knowing that I may only wear it for a couple of months if that. I am buying off the clearance rack at Wal-Mart now. I kinda enjoy shopping now that I no longer have to buy plus sizes. I weighed in at 166.2, and that has put me down from 7/9/03 when I went in for my 6mo. checkup. Well take care all, and GOD bless us all.

8/20/03 Well I am right at the 7 month mark, and I am down 70lbs. I went to see my PPC the other day, and he almost didn't recognize me, and he asked me if I would consider doing a weight loss survey for him that some company is doing on the well being of persons having lost weight. I will never regret having had the surgery, and I hope all that have it will have success, and those of you that still aren't sure I can honestly tell you that it is the best decision that I have ever made. Take care, and GOD bless.

9/11/03 Well I have had my pictures added since I posted last and although they aren't that great it does show the weight loss. The weight is coming off slow but since I still have not joined a health club, and I just walk each day and do some exercises on my own I think that I am doing good. My PCP almost didn't recognize me last month when I went to him for an earache. He asked me to do a survey for a research company about my well being, and emotional being since my weight loss. I told him I would do it I just finished this week. I feel that if I can help anyone by answering a question than I should. I hope anyone that reads this if they have a question that they would like to ask that maybe I can help them then please ask. To those of you out there that are doing research, and maybe you should come across my page, and read it I will gladly answer questions about the surgery, and the things that go with it. I hope that whatever decision you make will be yours and yours alone remember that anyone can give you advise, and voice their(0ur)opinion but it has to be YOUR decision. Good luck, and may GOD bless us all.

11/15/03 well it has been a while since I have posted. I hope all has been well with everyone, and that things are going your way. I am now down to 150lbs. and I am in between sizes so it is real hard for me to find clothes that fit right. I can wear a 12 in pants and they aren't baggy in the legs but they are just little tight in the stomach. Shirts are a different matter. I still need to wear a large in most some depending on style and maker 1x. I can wear some 12/14 in some shirts. I haven't been home to Texas since July, I would love to go home but my husband has been off work most of the year, and although I have been working we had our oldest daughter, and grandkids living with us and so I haven't been able to save too much money. I think maybe I will go home for Christmas though since I do have vacation coming to me, and since Christmas is on a Thursday, and the office is closed the next day I will just take my vacation until the new year. I hope that everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. It is so hard to believe that I am actually 10 months post op. I have not lost the weight like most people that have done the surgery, but I am very pleased with the results that I have acheived at. I have not been this size in over 20 years. I am thankful that GOD has allowed me to have this surgery, and I will do my best to help anyone that needs my help if I am able to help them. Well everyone take care, and may GOD bless us all. I hope that everyone will get their wish for surgery if you are doing your research on GASTRIC don't be afraid to contact any of us that are post op. Good luck. Till next time everyone take care.
1/09/04 well hello everyone. I hope that everyone had a good CHRISTmas, and had a safe newyear. Well I have obtained my goal to be down another 20lbs since July. I was beginning to think that I wouldn't because it has taken me all this time to do it. I am down to 147, and I know that I will lose some more and I am thinking about a tummy tuck. To those of you who are thinking of having this surgery I will tell you that i will never regret having had it. It has been a great tool in helping me to loose the weight. I am so thankful that GOD allowed me to have this surgery. I hope you the best in your journey. good luck and GOD bless.

1/20/04 Well I have reached my 1 yr. anniversary, and I must admit that I feel great. Dr. Klem said today that I have lost 88% of my excess weight. I weighed in today at 145.4lbs. My BP was 111/59. I have thought about having TT since I am a yr out now. I have to start on my excercise program more than what I am doing. I had been walking over a mile aday but since the weather has turned cold I haven't been and I haven't been to Yoga in over a month. I have been trying to do as they ask, and drink lots of liquids and I still am not quite up to the minimum that they want. I think that I have done better about the protein I will find out when I get the test results from the blood lab results back. Well take care, and may GOD bless us all.

    Surgeon: David Klem, M.D.
Was expecting someone older. Have only met with him once in person, and have talked to him on the phone. He has reassured me that he knows what he is doing, and I hear comments from patients that have had the surgery, and from other doctors. His office staff seemed very nice, although I have not met Courtney she seems very nice, and she gave me the best news I have had in a long time that I was approved for my surgery. The least that I liked about Dr. Klem I can't say I don't know him well enough to really form an opinion, I know that he was very nice at initial meeting.

I had never had a problem with getting approval for payments on anything until this surgery. Some of my co-workers do not like them. They didn't really stall I just think that since other than the asthma and sleep apnea they wanted to make sure I needed this surgery. Yes I think that the key is definately persistence. The thing that I would and do recommend is that you make sure that you log who the person that you are talking to and the date, and maybe even the time, and if you can get an extension number from them in case they don't want to give you their last name.
