"It's never too late to be who you might have been." ~George Eliot “The Greatest healing therapy is friendship and Love.” ~ Hubert Humphrey "Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, any one can start from now and make a brand new ending" " The great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, but in what direction we are moving." ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes "There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." ~ O. S. Marden "Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil." ~ James Allen "I asked God to give me happiness. God said, "No. I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you." ~ Author Unknown "Goals give you more than a reason to get up in the morning; they are an incentive to keep you going all day. Goals tend to tap the deeper resources and draw the best out of life. "Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself, 'Here is an opportunity for me to celebrate like never before, my own power, my own ability to get myself to do whatever is necessary." ~ Anthony Robbins " ~ Harvey Mackay "Life is a challenge, but if you don't stand and risk you will never know if you were able to win or lose. Challenges are not a thing of winning or losing; they are a way of learning from them to become a better person every day! ~ Alexsander Rodriguez, P.R "Don't ask for it to be easy, ask for it to be worth it." Dan Kuschell "The most important question to ask is not 'What am I getting?' The most important question to ask on the job is 'What am I becoming?'"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however." - Richard Bach "In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins; not through strength, but through persistence." ~ Jackson Brown "I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning." ~ J.B. Priestly "Each of us has an inner dream that we can unfold if we will just have the courage to admit what it is. And the faith to trust our own admission. The admitting is often very difficult." ~ Julia Cameron "The block of granite which was an obstacle in the pathway of the weak becomes a stepping-stone in the pathway of the strong. That block of granite is often nothing more than a decision." ~ Thomas Carlyle "Being yourself is not remaining what you were, or being satisfied with what you are. It is the point of departure." ~ Sydney Harris "Risk! Risk anything! Care no more for the opinion of others, for those voices. Do the hardest thing on earth for you. Act for yourself. Face the truth." ~ Katherine Mansfield "Too often we are scared. Scared of what we might not be able to do. Scared of what people might think if we tried. We let fears stand in the way of our hopes. We say no when we want to say yes. We sit quietly when we want to scream. And we shout with the others, when we should keep our mouths shut. Why? After all, we do only go around once. There's really no time to be afraid. JUST DO IT." ~ Nike advertising campaign "I am convinced that attitude is the key to success or failure in almost any of life's endeavors. Your attitude - your perspective, your outlook, how you feel about yourself, how you feel about other people - determines your priorities, your actions, your values. Your attitude determines how you interact with other people and how you interact with yourself." ~ Carolyn Warner "Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives." ~ Author Unknown "It's never too late to be what you might have been." ~ George Eliot "For every beauty there is an eye somewhere to see it. For every truth there is an ear somewhere to hear it. For every love there is a heart somewhere to receive it." ~ Author Unknown "Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to the end, requires some of the same courage which a soldier needs." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson A wish changes NOTHING; A decision, changes EVERYTHING "So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable." Christopher Reeves "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior." Isaiah 43:2-3 Everyone has beauty but not everyone sees it. "If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they may have planned for you? On Angels' Wings ~~ Today I prayed for angels to keep watch over you, to guard and then protect you in everything you do. When I whispered to the Father, I asked for Him to bring a touch of love and goodness sent forth on angel's wings. So if you feel the brush of wings or soft breeze fills the air, just know it's angels watching you because of whispered prayer. ~~Allison Chambers Coxsey. I borrowed this poem to wish you congratulations on your upcoming surgery. May it bring you joy and hope and calm when I know you may be riding turbulent waters. Please remember that we on the boards are here to help and we'll all save you a seat on the loser's bench. ~~ Gisela     — gisellena

Hi Beth, Good wishes to you on you surgery too! I will certainly keep watch for you whether we get a chance to meet in the waiting room Friday morning or during the stay there. Don't be alarmed if I'm hard to find as they said I may stay the first night in ICU as extra precaution because of sleep apnea. Once the weight is off, that should be gone too! So many good things on the horizon for us.....I expect I'll be up walking around pretty soon as well, whether open or not. By the way, all my pre-op testing is done as well. Did that last Wednesday and it wasn't nearly as much as I thought. Blood draws and EKG was about it. In case I need to ask where you are at, is your last name Merchant or if not, what is it? Again, best of luck! Mike     — bama510

Hey Beth, Just wanted to stop in and say that you are in my thoughts and prayers over the recent passing of your dear Grandmother. (I just saw this on older posts, as I've been trying to catch up) It is so hard to let go of someone that is so dear to us. I lost my Granny the day after Christmas, and it's especially hard during this time of year. Also noticed a post from you today about getting all your papers to insurance. Will be praying for you to get that approval ASAP!!!! Bless your heart, you've waited WAY TOO LONG! I know that this is YOUR TIME and you will soon get your hearts desire. And just think, our precious Grannies will be smiling down on us as we reach our goals with health. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care & God Bless You~~~Lisa     — Bama Sunshine

Hi Beth!! I am so happy for you today!! I just know this is going to happen for you. You have to wait a bit longer, but it will happen. Just be patient and drop me a line from time to time and let me know how you are doing. I am STILL crossing EVERYTHING that this will happen sooner rather than later. It better soon, I think something is going to fall off soon if I can't uncross it!! Be good...Cap'n K-Man     — capnkman

Hi Beth. I just saw your post about Mela and I wanted to drop you a line. I think it is so great of you to be an Angel to others even while you are waiting yourself. You are truly a great person and I hope I get the chance to meet you someday. I have to appologize too. I must have completely missed your post about having your gall bladder out. Man, I feel like a schmuck now!! I guess I can just blame it on being a man. I was probably told of your upcoming surgery, but you know how a man's memory works...IT DOESN'T!!! You be good now and keep me posted of your progress when things change or if you just want to let me know how you are doing....Captain K-Man     — capnkman

Hey Beth, I just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts. I am so hoping that you get some good news. Just to share my own story with you. I was denied by my insurance three times and finally gave up. I tried to switch to another insurance and somehow ended up with a full year of NO insurance. Ughh. Finally, decided that no matter what I was having the surgery. I managed to find the funds through a lot of thinking, a lot of juggling, and a lot of begging. I am now scheduled for surgery with Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada, MX on Feb 9, 2005. Less than four months from now. I just knew that I could not give up and that this surgery was the right thing to do for ME. If you are at all interested in going out of the country in order to self pay, I would recommend you go to the south of the border forum. Lots of really helpful people on there. I am paying $9300 plus travel expenses to have the surgery but it will be well worth it. Again, I am thinking of you and hoping that your isurance company sees the light and makes the right decision. Good luck, Tamara pre-op 2/9/05     — tamara_b73

Beth, Just wanted to drop a few lines & thank you for your thoughtful words to me yesterday. I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers that if this is truly meant for you that God will take it in his hands & handle your insurance battle for you. I am a true believer that if you put things in his control that he will lead you & take care of you. I am a prime example because of what happened to me yesterday. A little voice kept on & on from the time I enetered the hospital until I saw Dr Gardner. And now I know who that little voice was!!!! By the way Dr Gardner is awesome!!!! You will definately be in GOOD hands if your time comes. Love, Brandy     — bhyche

Hi Beth, I am so sorry your insurance company is being a pain in the pattuddie. I hate the word exclusion it bites. My insurance company was very good to me. There is a doctor in Birmingham and his name is Dr. Phillip Fischer. He considers those who do not have insurance and adjust his fees accordingly. I do not know about the hospital. My stay was Mon., Tues., and out on Wed. Dr. Fischer would probably be less expensive but be assured he is a very good surgeon and takes care of us WLS like children. Trust me on that one. You might want to give his office a ring.     — MsKatminus200lbs

Beth, I know how difficult it can be fighting insurance companies--a horrid roller coaster ride. Hang in there, hun. Your BMI should qualify you for the surgery. I don't think it should be legal for an insurance company to determine what is considered medical necessity...that's why we have physcians. I obtained the services of an attorney during my very last appeal. He has helped out quite a few OH members. His name is Gary Viscio. He's fees are reasonable, and he is very responsive to your questions/emails, etc. So far, he has been 100% on his appeals. You can learn more about him from his website at obesitylawyers.com. I just won my battle with the insurance company last month, and I'm scheduled for surgery on September 16...please, don't give up! Your tennacity will pay off! Your health and well being are too important! You are in my prayers. Bama Gal     — Bama Gal B.
