Hey Kelly Jo! I'm so glad that you've reached the open enrollment period. Your new life is so close you can taste it. I'm sure you'll do well because you've exhibited such committment already. I'm also sorry to hear about your mobility issues, but please, please, please don't beat yourself up. The world already sees fat people with such negative lenses, and most of the time it's just plain ignorance. Although we know that the amount a person eats and the amount a person burns will determine how much they weigh, we still don't know why some people burn a lot more than others. So, don't beat yourself up for your weight. The truth is that it really may be beyond your control! Just try to love yourself as much as you can, and be joyful that you may get to enjoy a more active you soon. Ranessa     — [Anonymous]

I decided a year ago that I had to have surgery. I found an insurance company that covers but I had to wait until January to make the change. The insurance co then required a 6-month diet. I went through all the little hoops and now I'm looking forward to surgery tomorrow. Keep working towards your goal! Kelly R.     — ralphkelly

Hello Kelly Jo My husbands insurance company didn't want to pay for my surgery either and gave me such a run around which went on for several months. I had nearly given up. Then his company announced back in June that they were going to change their benefits - and offered different options. I went over each one carefully - checked and double checked that they would approve this surgery - it went into effect on August 1. In the meantime while I was waiting for it to change, I got all the preliminary done - and now my surgery is just a couple of days away - I can't believe it's so close! Please don't give up - keep praying - and keep telling yourself "it's going to happen"!! I noticed your first message was back in May and here it is September - before you know it January will be here. I can also appreciate some of the negative responses you've gotten from people - don't listen to them - I've gotten to the point where I just let what some people say go in one ear and out the other. It's not about them, it's about you!! I read alot of motivational books - inspired by the company I work with - it has helped me so much. I work every day at getting rid of negatives - I'm just so ready for my life to change, and yours will too. I'll keep you in my prayers!! Thank you so much for your kind words - support - you sound like a very caring and wonderful person. Oh, and I'm from Ohio also!!     — kathy.b

Thank you for your encouragement! I almost changed my mind because I thought I was not going to be able to go back to work for 2 months and was going to lose my benefits, my job, and I could go on, but amazingly none of my worries are based on fact. My job is great, have my benefits, and (hopefully) will recover in FAR less time than I believed. I am excited, and you will get there too..... thanks again.     — colomom

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. My insurance denied WLS due to a written exclusion policy. That was in December 2005. Yes, God does have a plan. One door was closed and then I changed employers and did my research on the different insurance policies offered. My new insurance kicked in 6/1/06 and surgery is scheduled 8/15/06. One thing I have learned that is it is all in God's time, not mine. The waiting is hard, but it gave me an opportunity to reflect on why I wanted this surgery. It is not to fit in a size 10 (I'll take a size 14),but it is about the quality of life we live. I look foward to many of the same things you do. God bless and keep that positive attitude!     — Dianenaz1

Kelly Jo, Thanks for your kind words of motivation. I read your profile. Wow you have a wait, don't you? Only for your self, I give you this simple advise. Take from it what you will. Weight Watchers is great but if you are already thinking "what are other people thinking about me" try online WW, you can still teach yourself how to eat. That is my problem. I will eat a salad every day for lunch (Mon-Fri) weekends I still have little control until now. Surgery in two days. However, with the salad, I told my self, "i can eat whatever salad I want and how much I want. No croutons. I would splurge and eat the shell from a taco salad, though. I managed to lose 17 lbs but it took me 4 months. It was hard but I started to actually enjoy the salads. Then I realized all the fat I was putting on the salad (dressing, cheese, mayo in tuna) so I joined WW online to help me understand what limits I should have. This tool will help me once I get closer to my 8months to a year out from surgery. I just don't want to gain it back ; ) Good luck and keep posting. it feels good and good people read it!!     — Julie G.

Hi Kelly Jo.... Thank you so much for taking the time to send me well wishes.... I means sooo much... I am still pretty new to this site. I too am a countdown person... Thanks for your support. I am really excited about Wednesday. My sister is also having surgery the same day, same doctor, etc. Her's is at 10am and mine is at 12:30pm. I know the frustration of the insurance. Mine didn't pay either and I decided not to wait and change insurances, I am doing self pay and then going to appeal the insurance decision even though I don't think I have a prayer on that. 2 days to go!!!! Be Well!!     — grumpy

Thank you Kelly Jo for your support! I am rooting for you!!! I to am a HUGE HP nut and a crafty queen! *grin* My road to surgery lasted almost three years. So don't give up!! Definitely get your six months of medically supervised dieting in and MAKE SURE THEY DOCUMENT IT!! That was the biggest problem that I had getting approved. Your story of the Packers game was heartbreaking and unfortunately I've been in the same situation several times. Like they say, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger....I think. :) Much love! Hi Kelly Jo, thank you so much for your support! I so appreciate it. While you are waiting til you can submit for your approval... make sure you go see your PCP no less than once a month and make sure you tell them EACH TIME to document in the notes for your visit that day something on your diet and exercise that you are doing ... this is going to be need when you submit.. best wishes and good luck!!     — [Anonymous]

Hi Kelly I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago, and I battled almost 5 years with the VA and got the carpet pulled out from under me so many times I lost count, so when my disability got out of control I finally got approval outside the VA system. Keep up the positive attitude and my thoughts will be with you! Bob B     — bob3199

Hi Kelly Jo Wright.... It is Sheryl J. Thank you for your wonderful kind words. Don't give up yet. Sometimes the insurance process seems to take just a tad too long. My problem if you read my profile, was my inept primary who almost held everything up. By the time I got the paperwork back from him, I was almost in tears and wanting to go run him down. But it worked out. I go for surgery in the morning. I've had nothing today to eat but amazingly I don't feel hungry. I will keep everyone posted on my profile after tomorrow. Keep the faith.     — wait2lose
