Hi Patty, I can't tell you how nice it was to meet you Saturday. I feel like such a dope, not putting two and two together. I don't know what happened. I do know this, I am so very happy for you that you've started your WLS journey. Know that I am totally here for you if you have any questions, concerns, I would be happy to talk to you any time. Like we talked about Saturday, please start talking your vitamins, try eating slower and chew, chew, chew. You don't want to get in the habit of throwing up. I've been there. It ruins your esophagus and you will have problems later. If you read my profile you will see what I mean. I had problems in August the week before my wedding, ended up in the hospital and have been in 4 times since. All from throwing up! So, I can't stress enough to you about chewing and eating slow. And, if you think something is not right, call and ask the doctor. Okay, that's it for now. I send you lots of blessings and if you ever need to talk...let me know!!! Love, Carol Ann     — luvcandles

Maria S10/23/2003 11:22 PM
Patty..I just read your update on your profile. It is great to hear you are doing better. Have you started regular foods yet? I can't believe your doctor didn't tell your family you were okay. That is so HORRIBLE!!! I would have been mad too. Keep up the good work and let me know how you are doing. I will be thinking of you! ~Hugs~ Maria (P.S. I am going to be in Southern California next June. Maybe we can get together! I know it is a long way out, but I wanted to let you know.)     — Maria S

^j^ ANGEL FLYING IN ^j^ I did hear from Patty late last night and she is ok and has returned from the ER. It turns out that she has a cyst or tumor in her left ovary which is causing the pain she's been experiencing. She will be following up with her GYN on Monday. Please continue to keep her in your prayers though as I want to make sure she comes through this ok. Sending hugs and love, Caroline     — CarolineAnnMartin

^j^ ANGEL FLYING IN ^j^ Please everyone, take a moment to wish Patty well. She had her surgery 9/25/03 and was doing well until this past week when she began experiencing bad abdominal pain. Her surgeon advised her to go to the nearest ER, and I am concerned as that ER's hospital does not to WLS. Let's keep her in our prayers that all is well. She or I will update as soon as we learn more. {{{{{{{{{{{{{Patty}}}}}}}}}}}}}     — CarolineAnnMartin

UPDATE -- I just spoke to Patty so I am going to go ahead and post this update.. I am sure Caroline is getting some rest after her long day yesterday. NG tube is out.... catheter is out..... Patty has some discomfort but nothing major. They are getting ready to do the leak test and all she has to say is YUCK! Hopefully it won't be too bad. They are still talking about sending her home tomorrow but she is not sure if she likes that idea or not. She is busy making a bow for her daughter, Chelsea's, soccer pictures.. What a trooper! Surgery yesterday and being crafy today. Her family is all still around her and she is enjoying her roommate. She had met Julie on the message boards and it was pure coincidence that they ended up in the same room. The mysterious ways of God! Now - speaking of Caroline. Patty is so thankful that Caroline was there yesterday. Caroline kept Patty's family informed and calm when no one was sure what was happening. She was also right there with Patty to answer questions and lend support from someone who has 'been there, done that'. Caroline - you really are Patty's angel!     — shepkatt

CarolineAnnMartin09/26/2003 09:10 AM
^j^ ANGEL FLYING IN ^j^ My angelette, Patty, is doing wonderfully! She had her surgery yesterday morning and went into surgery at about 7:40 am. Her family and I were notified at about 12:30 pm that she was out of surgery. She had some adhesions from a prior gallbladder surgery that the surgeon had to navigate past first, so this made the surgery take a little longer. Patty's sweetest family and I got to see her in the late afternoon following our advocating like mad to get to see her - apparently the hospital is prone to not having beds/rooms available, and poor Patty had to stay in the all-to-busy (and loud) recovery room until 8:00 pm last night :( She was having a bit of nausea and pain throughout the day, and she is sore from the NG tube her surgeon left in, but by 10 pm, she seemed to be feeling a bit better, and just very tired. She did sit up and move little as well. Patty should be getting the NG tube and catheter out today, and I am sure she will feel so much better when that happens. It is hoped that she'll be released to come home sometime late tomorrow. Please keep the prayers and best wishes coming for this very beautiful person!     — CarolineAnnMartin

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. You can't do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about it's width and depth. Wishing you a speedy recovery. See ya on the losing side Patty!     — RitaJean

Alan M.09/25/2003 04:56 PM
Congradulations Patty! Great to hear that your surgery went well. Wishing you a speedy recovery. The lyrics on your page made me think of another song. This is by the Alan Parson's Project... Where does a dream belong Locked in the mind on the edge of time Like a ship lost in a storm How do we find the key Longing to see, through the artist's eye Maybe only birds can fly ... Watching the birds as they sail on the wind Trying to figure out the reason why Picturing wings held together with string One day to fly Someone said and i believe Try if you dare, you can walk on air A dream is all you need Ciao! Alan     — Alan M.

^j^--Substitute ANGEL UPDATE -- Patty Rex is out of surgery. Her surgeon said she did fine. She had some adhesions from a previous gall bladder surgery which is what took so long. Caroline and Patty's family have gone to grab some lunch and will be back to visit Patty in a few hours. Hopefully Caroline will be on line after that to give us her update on Patty's condition -- if not, then her substitute angel will stay on duty! Miss Patty is now on the other side.. CONGRATS!     — shepkatt

Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others, It is because we are different that each of us is special. Don't set your goals by what other people deem important, Only you know what is best for you. Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart Cling to that as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless. Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life. Don't give up when you still have something to give Nothing is really over … until the moment you stop trying. Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect, It is the fragile thread that binds us to each other. Don't be afraid to encounter risks, It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave. Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give love. The fastest way to lose love is to hold on too tightly, And the best way to keep love is to give it wings. Don't dismiss your Dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope. To be without hope is to be without purpose. Don't run through life so fast that you forget where you've been, But also know where you're going. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored every step of the way.     — Karin C.

Patty, you are in my thoughts and prayers as you begin your post- op journey. I hope your experiences will be as positive as mine to date. Hopefully all the research, effort, questioning , etc. will soon be a distant memory as you enjoy the success of your efforts. God Bless You. jim collins     — [Anonymous]

I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY~*~ I said a prayer for you today And know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke no word I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind, I asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind, I asked that He'd be near you At the start of each new day, To grant you health and blessings And friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.~*~Hugs~*~     — Naes Wls J.

Best wishes to you on your upcoming, life saving surgery. We are both so pleased to be writing to you and sending all of our heartfelt congratulations to you for choosing this procedure to extend your life and to let you live your life to the fullest extent. We both had open rny's in 2001. Mine (Doug, aka: OLD RODEO CLOWN PANTS), was in Oct and I have lost 215 lbs. I started at 450!!!! My sweet wife, Nancy, had hers in June and has lost 110 lbs. We invite you to go read our profiles and hope it might help you in some way. We are not professional writers, but all that we wrote is true and honest. Just remember that YOU WILL SUCCEED!!! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOU CANNOT FAIL. We wish you all the best, a problem free surgery and recovery and a rapid weight loss. From: Doug and Nancy, SO. CALIF.     — [Anonymous]

Hello Patty - Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!   You'll find the changes that follow, nothing short of a miracle. My humble advice?  Walk as much as possible after surgery.  As your body begins to heal make sure to get in your protein, even if it means plugging your nose and chugging back the protein drinks in baby [pouch] gulps.  Vitamins need to be chopped, minced or crushed... whatever it takes to get them in daily, no exceptions, YOU are worth it.   Also, let's not forget your new best(est) friend, water.  It is SO important to get your minimum 64 oz in daily. One final thing, remember to CELEBRATE all the special moments along the way, big or small.  Too many people focus only on the number, ie. pounds lost.  There are so many "moments" to look forward to and embrace, don't let any of them slip by.   Enjoy your new healthier life because you've more then earned it!!   "The key to happiness is dreams, the key to success is making those dreams come true"  Hugs & smiles -     — [Anonymous]

I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.**Hugs**     — Naes Wls J.
