Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

My battle with weight began in early childhood. I can recall my mother and other relatives describing me as a "solid" child, which is really just a nice way of saying fat. Unfortunately, I developed an emotional connection to food at a very early age and that connection has remained to this very day. I spent most of my time thinking about food, and I used food as a coping mechanism for every emotion in my life - happiness, depression, sadness.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst things about being overweight are a lack of self-esteem, health issues, joint pain and many limitations on life.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Enjoying life without being controlled by food, better health, more energy, looking and feeling better
