State-mandated obesity tests begin
Childhood obesity is a rising concern for parents, but Texas schools are getting involved.
Senate Bill 530 was passed in 2007 by the Texas Legislature to mandate fitness assessment for all students in grades three-12 beginning in the 2007-08 school year.
he Killeen Independent School District has already started testing some students, but testing more than 25,000 will be a time-intensive task, said Steve Gilliam, content specialist for physical education and social studies.
