New sleeve gastrectomy procedure offers new option for weight loss patients

Every Wednesday, Debra Slocum is up to her elbows in pounds of potatoes and mounds of chicken ? but for the first time in the busy grandmother?s life, her only interest is in serving them up for the patrons at her Lapeer church?s weekly soup kitchen.

?For the first time in my life, I haven?t felt hungry. I?m Thanksgiving full every day,? said Slocum, 56, who has lost more than 90 pounds since April, when she became one of the region?s first patients to undergo a sleeve gastrectomy at Hurley Medical Center.  Click here for full article.
