My first impression of Dr Mailapur was he was very funny, caring and knowledgeable. Over time I have not changed my opinion i just love Dr Mailapur. His office staff are wonderful ladies very caring. Future patients should know Dr Mailapur is a wonderful surgeon and a great person! He has a great group for aftercare and recommends what types of exercise and food you need to do and eat. He let me know what could happen and the risks of surgery during our first visit, he explained all the ups and downs. He is an excellent surgeon and a great man. He is an excellent surgeon and has great bedside manners! I would and have recommended him to anyone wanting weight lose surgery.

I could not ask for anyone more caring then Dr. M! The man moves at 200 MPH to be able to give as much time to his patients as possible. I promise you will never leave a meeting with out him asking you at least 3 times if you have anymore questions, and he is always happy to give you a full answer!

I began my weight loss journey with Dr. Mailapur in August 2012. He requires a series of seminars about obesity, surgery options, statistics on genetics and losing weight, surgery information and what to expect at the hospital and nutrition. He and his staff are professional, friendly and very patient oriented. All of my insurance needs were handled by the staff and Dr. Mailapur maps out an easy to follow checklist on what is required before surgery is scheduled. He is very honest and forthright about the fact that this surgery is a "tool" and not a magic pill to lose weight - and thus, makes sure that you are very well educated on what you need to do to be successful. My surgery was a success and I had no complications.

Dr. Mailapur is truly a life saver. He very much cares for his patients and I feel he has a genuine interest in saving their lives and giving them a new lifestyle through weight loss.

This is very evident in the reviews he receives from his patients and the success rate that they have. I would highly recommend Dr. Mailapur and frankly, my only disappointment is that I waited this long to have surgery.

After visiting Bariatric surgeons in the Huntsville area, it was clear to me from the first meeting that Dr. Mailapur was my surgeon of choice for my bariatric surgery. Dr. Mailapur has an amazing, informative program in place which supports the patient not only before surgery, but also after.

It all starts with a very informative seminar. The Doctor and his staff are there to answer any questions that you have. To be honest they do such a fabulous job with the presentation they give, that I really didn't have any additional questions. The Seminar provides details on all of the surgical options available, along with the pros and cons of each option. The Doctor and his team have clearly listened to the questions and concerns that a potential weight loss surgery patient have, and have addressed all of them in the presentation.

My insurance required 6 months of supervised weight loss with my primary care physician. Dr. Mailapur's office staff Jessica and Madilyn did a fabulous job on letting me know exactly what I needed to be aware of to meet this criteria. Once the 6 months was up, Jessica and Madilyn jumped right into action and got my insurance approval. They are both extremely educated on this process, and had me approved and scheduled for surgery within 3 weeks of my final supervised weight loss visit.

I attended a class before surgery and was provided with step by step information of what to expect from the minute I entered the hospital to the minute I left. Angi was brilliant, and literally went through where and when I would be stuck with needles etc. pre surgery, and what equipment I would be hooked up to when I woke up, and when I could expect each thing to be removed. This was really reassuring as I was able to understand every step of the way on the day of surgery. This was followed by a very informative session with Linda the dietician, who provided very detailed instructions of what I would be able to eat and when - after surgery. This class lasted approx. 4 hours, and just as with the seminar - I left there feeling completely informed and knew exactly what to expect as I moved toward my surgery date.

I had surgery on January 23rd, 2012. The thought and preparation that Dr. Mailapur and his team put into every single aspect of this process allowed me to be very relaxed on my day of surgery. I can honestly say that I was not even nervous - that's how much confidence I had in my surgeon :) I knew that he was the best. He came to see my prior to going into the Operating Room and he reassured me that he would take excellent care of me - and I knew that he would.

6 months post op, I can tell you that Dr. Mailapur saved my life!! Pre surgery I was taking medications for blood pressure, asthma, allergies and Gerd. After 6 months and 90 lbs, I am now totally medication free!!! I feel absolutely fantastic and am totally enjoying every aspect of my new self. After years of considering weight loss surgery, Dr. Mailapur was the final piece of the puzzle that made it all the perfect fit.

If you are considering weight loss surgery, go to the seminar. As you wait for it to begin, you will see a beautiful montage of before and after pictures. I remember sitting there watching and was thinking wow.. if I could lose that much weight and look like that... well I did :):) and I couldn't be happier. Absolutely no regrets.

A HUGE thanks to Dr. Mailapur and his entire team :)

As a person who has struggled with weight issues since early childhood, I had come to accept my situation as just part of my normal makeup. After having children, however, my health took a downward spiral. I had issues with diabetes, blood pressure, skin rashes, etc. After struggling for four years to lose weight on my own, I began to research other alternatives.

After 2 1/2 years, I finally had the courage to seek medical advice. Dr. Mailapur was not my first choice. At the recommendation of someone, I went to see another physician. While I am not being critical of the other guy, I instantly knew he was not right for me. (He, the other guy, stated he was willing to do my surgery that day. For some reason, that did not sit well with me.) I had decided to not have the procedure because I just did not feel at peace with the surgeon I had originally seen.

Well, my issues continued to grow worse, and my medical prognosis bleak, I knew I had to do something. I had reached my own limitations, and I began to pray for someone to come into my life that would make this decision easier. After conferring with two different physicians, there was one name that both used: Dr. Ravindra Mailapur. So, I attended one of his seminars and was instantly impressed with his calming, yet confident demeanor. He spoke with confidence about the procedure, the risks, the roles all vested parties play, etc. I left his seminar uplifted. I started to feel confident about making this decision.

After the seminar, I scheduled an appointment to meet with him one-on-one. I received emails from his staff promptly, and upon arrival, I was greeted by a warm and competent staff. It was after this meeting that I was absolutely certain that I wanted to do this.

Dr. Mailapur is more interested in his patients' success and well-being than the financial return. He is very strict on his pre-operative patients, which some patients may find a bit intimidating, but know he genuinely has your best interest at heart. There were days pre- and post- operative that I honestly left upset with Dr. Mailapur, but that was because he was speaking the truth, which we all know hurts us sometimes.

Bottom line: If you are seeking a competent, genuine, weight loss surgeon, Dr. Mailapur is the person for you. He makes sure you (and your family) are well educated about the procedure; he sets and holds you accountable for goals; and he is a great motivator. I highly recommend him!

I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Mailapur!
I had tried everything to lose weight and keep it off. I had had success losing the weight in the past but never keeping it off. Over a one year period, I watched helplessly as my health deteriorated. I had used a knee scooter to walk or been in a wheel chair most of that year. I had been hospitalized, had surgery and seen several doctors. Every one of the doctors said "You need to lose weight." I already knew that but I didn't know how to keep it off and playing the “fab” diet game is dangerous. Every time I did, I would gain every pound I lost back plus I would add an additional 10 to 2O more which got me to my highest weight ever of 271.8 pounds and in a size 28W. Approaching 300 lbs was very scary, so much so that I didn't won't to go back dieting. I felt stuck in the body that was always hungry, never satisfied, no energy, and breaking down with health issues.

I called Dr. Mailapur desperately seeking help since he was highly recommended. I was required to sit in on a seminar before going any further so my husband and I went. It was highly informative on what all my options could be with the pro and cons of each, statistics on obesity, the genetics on weight loss, and the health issues that could be caused from obesity. It was an eye opener to my situation. Before the meeting, we saw several before and after pictures of Dr. Mailapur's patients. During the meeting, we heard a testimony of one of his patients that was there bringing a friend to listen. You could tell Dr. Mailapur was very passionate about his profession and very caring and knowledgeable in his field. I left there realizing I had every issue listed on the obesity health conditions list except diabetes which runs in my family so it was a matter of time before I would have that too. I wanted to be the success stories I saw and heard about that night. I will never forget my husband holding my hand on the way home choking back tears to tell me “We have do something. I'm concerned about your health and I'll be here to help you in every way I can”. I felt like God put me in this path for a reason. I knew I had to try one more time.

I will never forget my first consultation with Dr. Mailapur. I had come seeking help with diet pills and showing him past pictures to prove to him I could lose the weight. I had convinced myself that I could lose the weight that way this time. But because I was in the danger BMI zone, he looked at me and said “Oh sweetie, I can't support that decision”. I just broke down crying in his office. I sensed a genuine concern for me and my well-being from Dr. Mailapur. He said he could give me names of doctors that may do what I wanted with diet pills but he just couldn't do that knowing that's not what would help me. Deep down I knew that too and after listening to the seminar I knew but didn't want to believe it. I went one more time to a seminar and went to some support group meetings where I could hear the pros and cons from people who were going through the process. I am thankful to Dr. Mailapur and his staff for allowing me to go to the support group meetings and educating me on this journey. Having the Gastric Sleeve Surgery was not an easy decision to make. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made for myself. After going through all the steps that are required by Dr. Mailapur, the whole process was very clear to me. I knew what to expect before and after surgery. I have so much respect and confidence in Dr. Mailapur. He truly is the best surgeon.

Dr. Mailapur saved my life!!! I am 7 months post op and down 117 pounds from my highest weight. I feel great!!! I am in complete remission of my Kidney disease. My kidney doctor is amazed. I no longer have knee and feet issues. I am off the CPAP machine. The doctors have lowered all my medications. And there are so many things I can do now physically that I couldn't do before the surgery. Dr. Mailapur said he was only providing “the tool" but the hard work ahead was up to me. He taught me to use the tool and apply the work. But he provided me with so much more than just a tool in the form of surgery. He provided me with all the knowledge I needed to make this journey a success. I am successful only because of the education I received, the friendly and knowledgeable staff I worked with, the encouraging words from Dr. Mailapur and his staff, his high fives and hugs, his skills, talent and his compassion for what he does. Now for once in my life, I feel like I have truly overcome this disease of being obese. I am never going back!!

Dr. Mailapur, Thank you for being honest and factual about the surgery and for expressing to me many times that “the tool" is just a tool and not magic pill. I will forever have to be accountable for my actions toward being a healthier me and you helped me find the strength to do so.

I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Mailapur. I had no complications from the surgery but called him a couple of times at home about concerns and questions. Each time he responded quickly, compassionately and put me at ease. I thank God for this blessing. God puts people on this earth to help and heal people and Dr. Mailapur is one of those people.

Thank you Dr. Mailapur for giving me the tool I needed to get back to a healthy life. When I first met with Dr. Mailapur in November 2014, I weighed 255 (on my home scale)---today, I'm 169. I've gone from a size 44 pants to size 34---from a size XX shirt to a Medium. Before my surgery, I was taking 3 blood pressure medications and one for high cholesterol---now I'm off all of them and my blood pressure is fine. I can now fit into my Army uniform that I haven't been able to wear since I left active duty in 1982. I can now walk 5 miles in slightly less than an hour. I can ride my bike 15 miles in an hour and five minutes---things I never thought I'd be able to do again. I've found that I can travel/vacation and still maintain/lose weight. We were gone on a trip for about 6 weeks, late April 2015 to early June. I lost 10 pounds during that period and we still were able to go out to dinner and visit with family and friends. Before meeting Dr. Mailapur, I'd never even considered that I was a candidate for this surgery (bariatric sleeve). He showed me that I was, and with his care, it's been the best medical decision I've ever made. Dr. Mailapur and his team are the VERY BEST!! If you have a problem like I did, give them a chance to help.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Mailapur and his staff. He makes sure you understand your options, risks, and responsibilities as a patient. I felt fully prepared on my surgery day. I am just a little over 2 months post op and at the lowest weight I have been at in over 10 years. I still have a long ways to go, but I know I will be successful. Dr. Mailapur makes sure you know what you are getting into. He educates you from the pre op seminar and checks on your progress with your post op appointments. He told me that we are in a long term relationship...a relationship for life. I am excited to be on this journey and so thankful to Dr. Mailapur for providing me with this tool in which to become half the woman I once was .
