I do not like Dr. Benedetto. I thought he used his authority badly and that he attempted to mess with my head. Without asking the first question, he told me I needed counseling simply because I did not want to know my weight. I had just met this man and within 3 minutes, he's making a negative pronouncement on my mental health. As it happens, I am a former psychiatric social worker and did not take kindly to some asshole using his authority in an abusive way. Had he asked questions, he would have found that I was within 10 pounds of a normal weight, exercised religiously, didn't drink alcohol or carbonated beverages, etc. Basically, I was doing everything right. I just had one little quirk: I preferred to know how much I had lost rather than getting fixated on the number. I thought this was healthier for me. The nutritionist I was seeing agreed. Dr. Benedetto used this as a cudgel. I found another doctor. By the way, my nutritionist also left the program because she didn't want to work with him.

I had my original surgery at MGH but my insurance changed and Dr. Pratt would not see me anymore. I ended up with Dr. Benedetto by chance and I could not have been luckier! He treated me as if I was his own. He performed my repeat surgery laparoscopically and I have done great. I would recommend him to anyone.

I have had a great experience with Dr. B. He has operated on many of my family members and we have all done great. He does have a very direct style and he will certainly challenge you if you are not doing the things that are necessary to be safe - I personally needed that and was grateful for it.

He takes the surgery and the process very seriously.

I felt 100% comfortable in his hands and he just gave me the feeling that everything was going to be OK.

I would - and have - recommend him to my friends and family.

Very talented and knowledgeable surgeon. He's good at what he does and he knows it and that turns some people off when they meet him since he has some swagger. My thinking is that swagger is fine if you can back it up and he definitely can. His office staff and the staff at Heart And Wellness are top notch as well. They are terrific at explaining and helping you in any way they can.

As another poster stated, he is a cocky little bastard. She believes one wants that in a surgeon. I believe this is exactly what one should avoid in a surgeon— particularly a bariatric surgeon.

Dr. Benadetto is an affable salesman at the info session. He will try to connect with you to close that sale. He clearly wants to be selected. I didn't like the used car sales approach and chose Dr. Buckley. I absolutely adored him. He was kind and really 'got' me. Unfortunately, he retired less a year after my surgery so I saw Dr. Benadetto for aftercare. Wow, what a prick.

The man had formed a negative opinion about me without even talking to me. He could not be dissuaded from this opinion, which made connecting about a complication (an ulcer) nigh on impossible. I ended up calling my gastrointerologist who, just back from a month long vacation and solidly booked for the next three months, got me in the next day. He was appropriately concerned. Why wasn't Benedetto?

The upshot is that if you don't want to be unfairly judged, if you want to be treated with kindness, If you want to be heard and respected for the unique human being you are, be sure to make an appointment with just about anyone else. Hint: MGH is thinking about opening a bariatric surgery center on the north shore. Check with them. They've gotten great reviews. In the meantime, avoid the pricks like the plague. Trust me, you deserve better. I definitely do and will be going to MGH for my aftercare from here on out.

Let me get this out of the way first. Dr. B. is a cocky bastard. But really, don't you kinda want that in a guy who is going to gut you like a fish?

The other thing you should know is that he's very direct. If you're doing stupid stuff, he's going to tell you that you're doing stupid stuff, and you should knock it off. He's direct, and plenty of us need that.

NSMC also has a very structured pre- and post-op program. Follow the rules and you'll be successful. I know two others who had surgery in other local programs, and their aftercare is much less thorough and effective.

As much as he's a cocky bastard, I really like him.

Let me add that the OH listing states that Dr. B. always removes the gall bladder. That's just not true. I still have mine, as do many of his other patients.

I had laparoscopic RNY on 1/16/12. Dr. Benedetto is fantastic! Initially I was going to go with Dr. Buckley, however, when I spoke with Dr. B at the info session, I felt he was easier to talk to, and would be just as careful as Dr. Buckley. He saw me every day while I was in the hospital, addressed my concerns, and made sure I was well taken care of. I highly recommend Dr. B for bariatric surgery.

My wife and I have both had surgery with Dr. B. He is great! a True professional! I first had the Lap-Band and there were issues where i couldn't swallow or intake more than a few ounces a day. This was good so Dr. B. took me in a week later and removed the lap-band. He did so much research and talked to many colleagues to figure out what we wrong, he really put in the extra effort. It was just one of those things where my body was not compatible with the lap-band.

Over a year later i went back and saw him again and decided to opt for the sleeve, the pre-process was smooth as before and the extra care I was shown was unexpected. Dr. B kept me in the hospital an extra night after surgery just to be safe due to my prior complications with the lap-band.

I am now 3 months post-op, have not had one issue, have the ability to eat anything (in small quantities) and continue to lose weight.

At 3 months i have lost 100 Pounds and could not ask for a better pre or post op program

Dr B, is a great Doc..He had more confidence in me that I did. His staff are all wonderful, the pre-surigical crap was even tollerable because of the great team they have put together at the NSMC weight loss program. I am only about 4 months post op, and have yet to have a single problem.

Dr. B is a lifesaver!! My first impresion of him was that he wasn't a fan of the band but that could not have been further from the truth. He was just very honest about what it would take to have success with the band. I had been to other programs where they made the band sound like a 'magic bullet' and did not talk about the work that was needed to have success. Dr. B - along with the Heart and Wellness Center - made sure I was ready mentally, emotionally and physically for the surgery. Sometimes I did not like what he had to say but he was always honest and always looking out for me.

The surgery was the easiest part! I felt so comfortable and was in and out of the hospital within hours. I honestly think it took him about 10 minutes to put in my band!! I was up and out of the house the next day and back to work three days later.

Now, I have lost almost a hundred pounds with the hlep of the band and ALOT of sweat. I have not had a single problem and could not be happier!

Highly reccomend Dr. B and his program!!

Good luck and Go For It!!
