Dr. Northup is the medical director and principal bariatric surgeon for Mercy Healthy Weight Solutions.  He completed his surgical training at the Medical College of Ohio and went on to complete an advanced laparoscopic and bariatric fellowship at the University of Virginia.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Northup was invited to join the faculty of the  University of Virginia (UVA) Department of Surgery.  He was appointed as Medical Director of the bariatric surgery program there, and developed the Bariatric Center of Excellence for UVA.

In December of 2007, he joined Mercy Health Partners.  He has since worked to develop Mercy Healthy Weight Solutions, one of the Cincinnati area's most complete weight loss programs.  As an experienced bariatric surgeon, Dr. Northup is dedicated to helping each patient find the weight loss solution that is right for them.

Dr. Northup serves on national committees for the ASMBS and SAGES.  Having personally performed more than 700 bariatric surgery procedures, Dr. Northup has extensive experience treating patients who suffer from excess weight.
