I was Dr Barba's patient only for a three of year period because when he moved his practice, it took me awhile figure out where he went. Then he moved again from Connecticut to Texas. Unfortunately, I had a medical emergency recently so i needed to find another bariatric surgeon. I was lucky to get connected to a very good one through my primary care provider

Everything people say about him is correct, he is warm, caring and has a good sense of humor. He isn't as thoughtful as he should be though. When he changed practice (twice) he should have informed his patients so they could find another practitioner and get their medical records transferred. Valuable time is lost by having to do this before an emergency surgery.

I needed a surgeon quickly because after 6.5 years, I recently have had my lap band removed. My entire band and port were covered in pus. A large mass of it built up in my upper abdomen; it drained for three weeks. I had a serious infection around the port.

One interesting finding from the surgery: the buckle used to secure the band at the correct width around the stomach had NEVER been fastened. I had no read restriction in my lapband, ever.

I had gastric bypass surgery a year ago i was 210 pounds now i am 92 pounds and keep losing weight i moved to TX about 5 months ago and no one was able to help me they said i was fine. but i was losing 2 to 3 pounds a week. I had to come back to my home town to get help from a completely different doctor that is completely amazing and is saving my life i have to get my stomach stretched and it may take up to 4 times. My stomach to my intestate was the size of a pin head they stretched it to the size of a pen i will be going in for my second round soon. Dr Barba never return phone calls to me or his old practice or even very concerned family members. If i did not seek help back in my home town in CT i would be dead with in a month my body was starting to shut down and he didnt even care to return a call. If you are looking to get this surgery done check out the doctor. I wish i had never done this.

The million dollar question why did he leave CT and get a new practice in TX

Getting an appointment can be a bit difficult. If it's an emergency they will see you ASAP. Normal visits can take a month to get into see Dr Barba. This can be frustrating especially if something unavoidable comes up and you have to be reschedule. His office staff can be somewhat difficult to deal with, especially when trying to accomplish something over the telephone and avoid an additional office visit. The good news is although he operates out of a busy office, you don't feel rushed through an office visit. He's very thorough with answering your questions and concerns. He's extremely knowledgeable and makes sure that you understand all follow up procedures and what you need to make the WLS successful. Add in a great bedside manner and I highly recommend him.

Dr. Barbara is a funny guys, he always brings humor into the picture. His office/staff is extremely helpful and try to answer questions as much as possible. I have had some complications but if it were not for Dr. Barbara and his staff (especially Jason who is great!) I would not be were I am today. I was 320 pounds at my biggest and now i am 126. I had gastric bypass on February 2, 2009 and I am glad that i finally made that decision. I also like the way the staff explain everything step by step. When i have questions I can ask and don't feel like i am being judged. At his office you feel as if you are part of your health and can make decisions along with your doctor. Ultimately, you know your body and how you feel. Thank you guys for all you do!

I have been holding off on review because hind sight is 20/20. So I can give an honest and fair review. I would highly recommend Dr. Carlos Barba. It will be one year since the removal of my lapband and gastric bypass surgery. I have nothing negative to discuss about Dr. Barba. This review is not an emotional one because surgery is serious business. This doctor covers all aspects and understandS what is needed on a case-by-case basis. He can read people, what I mean by that is if you need a laugh, he will give you that instictually. If you have a serious concern and the last thing you need is a laugh, he is on the same page with you. Everything you can possibly need in order to succeed is available with this surgeon. BOTTOM LINE: HIGHLY RECOMMEND AND HAVE NO REGRETS!!! Lori

I am writing to inform people of a problem I had with DR. Carlos Barba. I was informed in February of 09 that I was approved for gastric bypass, and that I had to start all my testing. I went through the 6 months of testing that was required, spent alot of money on co-pays and the nutritionist (Melissa was great). I got a date of October 6Th 09. About 2 weeks before my scheduled surgery DR. Barba's office called and informed me that they had made a mistake, and my surgery was never approved! NEVER APPROVED?! Are you kidding me??? I was amazed at the rush to cover the mistake they had made, And not only did they try and make it look like I had known the whole time but refused to give me a full refund of the money spent in their office. Dr Barba did end up giving me back $100 for the drink mix I bought thinking I was having surgery. He also gave me $150 of the money I spent in his office. Still it does not nearly cover my out of pocket expenses. So BEWARE when dealing with DR. Carlos Barba's office. I know he seems so funny and nice when you first meet him, I am just saying cover your bases. Follow up after you get an approval, call your insurance company and make sure that it is covered. Good Luck!

I thought she was young at first. I didn't really get to know her before the surgery because I was rushed into surgery because my insurance was going to stop coverage at the end of the year. I really liked her after I got to know her and she was excellent lisenter and she gave good advice. She has left Hartford and moved to Rhode Island.rnAfter she left I needed revision because the band was too small had it replace Nov. 2007.rnNow in May of 2009 I ended up with a infection and now had it removed and had revision to Gastric Bypass.
