I had my surgery on 10/03/2011. Dr Stevens did my surgery. He is wonderful!! I had complications after surgery ,several times when I woke up he would be sitting by my hospital bed reading my chart. He was very concerned and caring.

He is no longer there, I do not feel like the after care for patients this far out is very good. I have gone back for follow up, due to lack of successful weight loss.

Dr Bollman basically said there was nothing they could do. Did not do any tests, said majority of tests on other patients came back to indicate that the pouch was still intact and working. He said there was no type of revision that could be done.

Once again I was made to feel like a failure on my weight loss battle.

I am in process of finding another surgeon who is willing to discuss revisions and actully check "my" pouch.

Dr. Bollman was very knowledgeable and kind. I've been used to doctors making me feel uncomfortable and embarassed about my weight. He made me feel very comfortable about talking to him from the very first and that has not changed over any of my follow up appointments with him. He is a truly caring doctor. His staff is also very helpful. I was surprised and impressed that he gave me his home number and was insistent that I call him should I have any problems after surgery. I did have to call him for a complication that was not due to surgery - I had an allergic reaction to something - and called over the weekend. He did call me back and apologized for the delay in calling me back on his day off!!! This was my personal impression based on my own experience with him so I can't speak for what other people may have experienced. I would give him 10+ out of 10. I would highly recommend him to anyone

I just want to thank Dr. Bollman for giving me my life back. He is a wonderful surgeon in my opinion. rnrnI see him as very easy going and he really works with you with no pressure. He asked me what weight I wanted to reach, he never imposed a goal on me. I found that quite refreshing as I don't do well in a \"pressure cooker\" type situation. rnrnDr. Bollman is a very mild mannered surgeon and I think he is wonderful!

*Note Dr. Bollman and Dr. Stevens did the surgery together. Dr. Stevens was my primary surgeon for aftercare.*rnrn Dr. Stevens is small in stature. Not intimidating. Dr. Stevens was very up front about the risks of the surgery and that this has to be a life style change. Also stressing that this shouldn't be a decision that one should consider lightly. The two doctors (Dr. Charles Bollman and Dr. Scott Stevens) that do this surgery at Geary County Community Hospital in Junction City KS; are truly dedicated to making the morbid obese person's life longer and more productive. These two doctors were doing this long before others jumped on the money making band wagon. They both show the precise amount of knowledge, care and compassion to make every patient feel like their only patient. I would rate these doctors 20 on a scale of 1-10. I would not intrust my life in the hands of any other doctor('s) for this procedure. I also have to note that Eileen (Dr. Boleman's nurse) and Karla (Dr. Steven's nurse) are awesome as well. I call Karla my angel, she is the earthiest, kindest, most soft spoken, gentlest, giving, beautiful, loving spirit I have ever known. There is nothing she would not do for her patients. I am confident that all will go well with my surgery, because I could not, in my opinion; be in better care anywhere else with anyone else. I know we aren't suppose to rate excellent on everything. But honestly I cannot think of anything negative to say about the doctors or their staff.rnrnrn**This is my insurance info**rnrnAetna, PPOrnI actually changed insurance from Coventry Health (HMO) to Aetna PPO in January 2003. Coventry would not pay for this surgery, they deem it \"cosmetic surgery\". It is amazing to me how many insurance companies are so ignorant still of the plight of the morbidly obese. Or maybe they just don't care. Probably they just don't care. Well, I switched to Aetna PPO as soon as possible, which was the beginning of the year, because they do pay for this surgery. I had a co worker that had the surgery in 2000 and she had Aetna PPO. So, I knew I would be okay with this insurance. I couldn't believe they turned me down on my first application. They had a new clause in the plan. Not only did you have to be 100 pounds overweight and have a doctor deem this medically neccesary; but you have to within the previous 2 years have 6 months of doctor supervised weight loss and excercise program. So, even though I had been fighting my weight my entire life, and had tried every diet and excercise program under the sun. I still had not had what they wanted. So, they denied me. Well, long story short. I got them on appeal with a technicality. Since I switched insurance at the beginning of the year there was a delay getting authorized for surgery. This new clause went into effect January 17th, so on appeal we contested that I had tried to get authorization prior to the new clause. I guess they felt that was the case because shortly after my appeal I got approval. So, for anyone else that has Aetna PPO bottom line is YOU MUST BE 100 POUNDS OVERWEIGHT, HAVE A DOCTOR DEEM SURGERY A MEDICAL NECCESSITY, AND HAVE 6 MONTHS OF DOCTOR OVERSEEN DIET AND EXCERCISE IN THE PREVIOUS 2 YEARS BEFORE SUBMITTING FOR SURGERY. Hope this helps someone else. Actually, I am glad that in the end they are paying.~ rn

I knew from my first visit with Dr. Bollman that he was exactly the type of surgeon I wanted to do my RNY! Dr. Bollman is very soft spoken, polite, and very informative. He makes you feel like you are human, not just someone who will be paying him money. The day of my pre-op testing, he greeted me with a smile, and reassured me about the test he was getting ready to perform. The day of my surgery he was absolutely wonderful!!! I ended up in ICU for 5 days instead of 1, and when I questioned not only Dr. Bollman, but the ICU nurses they reassured me that Dr. Bollman only wants the best possible care for his patients and that as soon as he felt absolutely comfortable moving me out to the floor he would do so. Believe me, that did make me feel so much better. Aftercare is very important to Dr. Bollman!! I live 4 1/2 hours away from Junction City, his office called me daily to check on me. When I did start having a problem Dr. Bollman instructed me to go to my local ER. He worked with them via phone and fax. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Dr. Bollman and his staff at a 10 plus!!! I would reccomend him to anyone!!rnIn my opinion both surgical competence, and bedside manner are of great importantance and Dr. Bollman is wonderful in both areas!!

Dr.Bollman was very easy going and not difficult to talk to. He explained things to me about the surgery and the risks associated with the surgery in terms that were easy to understand.
