My surgery was performed on February 9, 2009 by Dr. Rohrer. My body is carrying 100+ less pounds. Dr. Rohrer gave me my life back and I feel like a completely new person. The most important thing I remember was realizing my footsteps and going forward was up to me. Easier said than done- when you want to hang onto old habits and thought pattern's.
My blood levels are 100% better. I will be able to stop one of my diabetes pills, and my Triglycerides are within normal range, and I never thought that would be possible.
There is 1 thing I would do differently, keep better contact with Dr. Rohrer, Lisa, and other staff at the Bariatric Institute in Great Falls.
Next thing would be to help other's more by sharing my experiences.
Dr. Rohrer was great! He took time to explain everything about the LapBand, had a LapBand to show how it works and all of the risks/benefits involved. His staff is the most helful people, loaded with knowledge and ready to help with ANY type of question.
I would have liked to have more instruction on how to prepare different type of foods/menus for the different stages.
I could not have picked a better, more experienced surgeon. He has done so many WLS, not to mention Lap Bands. He could do them in his sleep. That gave me great reassurance. I came to him with newly diagnosed diabetes, barely controlled hypertension, acid reflux and skin breakdown from diabetes. As I write this, I am one week post op, and the reflux is gone, my AM fasting sugars are manageable and I have already decreased a dose in blood pressure pills.
He does expect closely observed post op follow up.
I like Dr. Rohrer when I first met him. The office staff seems very friendly and willing to help. I did not find anything that really bothered me about the Doctor. I feel that any future patients should know that he is the type of doctor that cuts to the chase no sugar coating. The type of doctor I like. He strikes me as the type of person that is as willing to follow you after surgery as he is to perform the surgery.I am not sure if he has a structured aftercare program but the bariatric center he sent me to for my nutrition class has one. All of the risks of the surgery were discusses with me and my husband and he made sure we did not have any questions and that we understood the risks. So far after one visit I would recommend him to other prospective patients. I feel that compentence and bedside manner are very important. When I was denied with my first they were very helpful in my appeal. I gained more weight and started over and when I got the referral they set it up so I could come in and be weighed and not have to bother the Dr. again for the same thing he saw me for the first time. I now have been approved and they are great.
thanks to this great surgeon, I had a very positive first inmpession. His staff have been very very helpful. I would recommend this surgeon to any and all who are interested in WLS. I have no negative responses to anything that has happened, before during and after my surgury..rnrnThanks again to Dr. Rohrer and his staff
Dr. Rohrer performed both my father's surgery and my own. Both of us received a lap band, though my father would have been a prime candidate for a gastric bypass. My father however, would not have gone through the surgery if this were the case, and Dr. Rohrer was accepting of this decision once he felt it was well thought out. I love Dr. Rohrer because he is just confident enough to know he's a great surgeon, but not too cocky that his bedside manner is anything but great. On the day of my father's surgery, his second surgery of \"everything went wrong\". By this, Dr. Rohrer explained that there were unforeseen complications during surgery, but the patient made it out without any problems and with the band in. This caused significant delay in the time of surgery, but Dr. Rohrer addressed this when my father went back to prep for surgery and it was actually comforting to know that he had seen things go wrong and just fixed them on the go. The staff is friendly and always giving of information, and the anesthesiologists are used to working with very big people. I was 400+ lbs. and my father much more than that at time of surgery. Aftercare is emphasized, and post-operative fills are scheduled upon dismissal of the hospital. The risks of surgery were addressed clearly and with no mincing of words. I would choose to use him for general surgery if I could and ever needed him again. I personally find his demeanor comforting and those that know him outside of the doctor's office have indicated a great level of respect/like of him. If anywhere near Montana, this is the doctor I would choose, especially if grossly obese. In fact, for my father's surgery, he was willing to travel anywhere in the U.S. to have the surgery, but felt abundantly comfortable with Rohrer.
Amazing! The Dr. and his staff were so amazing and pleasent to work with. Thank you guys. My surgery went awesome. NO complications at all!!! Total blessing I had my surgery as of october 13th 2008 and it's now April 16th 2009. I've lost 97lbs! The only thing that I didn't like was one of the nurses in the hospital. Dr. Rohere can be very factual and blunt, but that's why I liked him.
