Dr Mikami is such a wonderful doctor. He took the ime to explain things in depth and didn't make me feel like he was annoyed by all my questions...and I had a lot! I will recommend Dr. Mikami to everyone I meet thatis considering Weight Loss Surgery!
Dr. Mikami preformed my RNY gastric bypass on 2-8-11. I couldn't be more pleased with how well he done or his bedside manner. He's very patient. When I seen him for my preop visit I brought along 2 pages of questions. He sat and answered everyone of my questions in easy to understand terms. He never made me feel like a failure as far as my weight and the fact that I am MO. He was very very kind. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering having WLS.
From day one until now I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my RNY experence with Dr. Mikami, I have lost 95lbs in 11 months with no complications at all.
I was very impressed with Dr Mikami from the start, He made me feel very relaxed during the meeting. At no time did I feel rushed at any point he answered all my questions showed me all the drawing that i wanted to see of how my new pouch would be, he addressed all my concerns about pain and aftercare. His staff was very nice and helpful. He fully explained all the risks and all the benfits of my surgery. He emphasizes the importance of follwing his aftercare instructions and future followup appts so as to get the most oout of my recovery and future weight loss.
All I can say about Dr. Mikami is that he is a god send. My surgery went well and I looked like I was going to respond with no problems when late that evening I took a bad turn. Dr. Mikami personally took it upon himself to see that I received the absolute best possible care. He was the one who picked up and carried my C-Pap machine to ICU. He made sure that I was checked out thoroughly, and spent as much time as it took to ensure that I was stable before he left. With all of the pain meds in my system the details are a little fuzzy, but I remember waking to his voice many times and looking up to see him reviewing my situation with the ICU staff.
He is absolutely amazing!! So patient and thorough. He made me feel like i was the only patient there. He did not seem rushed at all. He also was very reassuring about the surgery. This meeting with him has made such a difference. I feel like i can relax about things now.
My husband and I both had RNy surgery by Dr. Dean Mikami in May 2008, 2 weeks apart. Dr. Mikami took all the time in the world for our pre op and our 2 wk post op check ups, to make sure all our questions were answered and that we were feeling alright. He is a very caring Dr. and is always willing to talk and answer any concerns or questions. He does have a structured aftercare, that you are required to attend classes before the surgery is even scheduled. He does explain all the risks involved and discusses the statiistics that he has experienced also. In the hospital, he saw us immediately after surgery later in the day, and he and his staff of residents checked on us often. He made sure our pain was controlled esp immediately post op. He remained very caring and attentive. The care we received from his staff and the entire nursing staff on 10E Doan Hall at Ohio State Medical Center was outstanding. We would have to rate both our hospital stays' as a 10/10.rnDr. Mikami also has a Ns. Case Manger, Janice and a Ns. Practictioner Kathy, and you are encouraged to call them or Dr. Mikami's office for any questions after you go home. They are just terrific, we can't say enough good things about him and his staff. At the present my husband has lost 40+ lbs in 4 1/2 wks, and I have lost 20+ lbs in 3 1/2 wks!
Dean J. Mikami, M.D.rnDr. Mikami and his staff know their stuff and are friendly people who I have alot of respect and confidence in. rnHe does have a stuctured aftercare program and it is explained up front. He explained the risks and beifits of the surgery.rnDr. Mikami is a great doctor and has a great bed-side manner. He really truly cares about his patients. I would Highly recommend him to anyone.rnI'd rate him 10/10.rn
Very informativernVery kindrnBed Manners were greatrnWould not want anyone else!rnYou did not feel rushedrnYou were not a number on an assembly linernrnOffice staff was greatrn
First impression was I hate to say kind of rushed. He came in and just went right into everything no beating around the bush seeing how I was doing or anything. It was as if he had 100 patients and I was just the next in line he needed to get thru. Don't get me wrong he wasn't mean or anything I just wished it would have felt so rushed if that makes any sense. rnSo far my impression hasn't changed post-op that much I saw him the first time to get approved for my 4 week class at OSU then again when I completed the class and set the surgery up. Then the only time I saw him was my last day or so in the hospital after the surgery when he came in for under 5 minutes and said surgery went great we're going to try and get you home. That was it nothing else. rnHis staff was pretty good. I think I talked with his nurses and admins more than him.rnWhat did I like least again I guess the sense of being rushed almost like I was cattle and just the next in line. It's hard to describe. rnWhat should future patients know? He's good. He's got a really good reputation. He proformed the surgery on me and I can't say I'm unhappy with the results I am. Just don't go in expected someone whose really empathetic and going to hold your hand thru it all because he's not. He's there to proform the procedure and that's it. rnWell it wasn't Dr. Mikami that stressed the aftercare so much as OSU as a whole. They have a pretty good and thourough Bariatric program that they've been successfully running for several years now. They've got it pretty much down to a science. rnAgain it's more OSU's program than Dr. Mikami's but Dr. Mikami follows this plan and did emphasis on it. rnDr. Mikami did stress the risk as I expected him to or any surgeon. rnI would rate him a 7 or 8 only because of bedside manner. rnI have to say with this type of surgery and the problems that can happen I would most absolutely take surgical competence over bedside manner. Although I do have to say that bedside manner does help. rn
