The Miriam Hospital, a Lifespan facility, announced the appointment of Dr. G. Dean Roye, a veteran surgeon at the hospital, as senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer, effective Aug. 7. He has been my Bariatric surgeon for more than 10 years. Although his pt. care hours will be reduced, the hospital gains an excellent physician in this new role!

I continue to be impressed with Dr Roye. Gastric bypass will be my 4th surgical procedure with this doctor. I continue to have the upmost confidence in him.

I was very impressed with Dr. Roye and his staff. I came prepared, and left feeling I chose the right surgeon for me.

I have not personally experienced any problems with his staff, they were always very helpful & obliging.

Dr Dean Roye is the most kind, caring, thoughtful, thorough & very persnickety doctor I have ever met, all the things you could ever want in a surgeon & more.

In 2002 I had bariatric surgery. When I woke up after the surgery, Dr Roye was there holding my hand, reassuring my I was fine. During my time in the hospital, Dr Roye came in every day, even on his day off to monitor my progress.
I lost over a hundred pounds by following Dr Roye's directions & I have kept the weight off for over 11 years.

In 2009 I was admitted to RI Hosp for a serious GI problem, and fortunately, for me, Dr Roye was on. To be honest, I am not sure I would have let anyone else near me. As soon as I saw him I felt this huge relief. I absolutely knew I would be okay!

I love Dr Dean Roye & can't thank him enough. He gave me back my life twice!!

Dr Roye is wonderful, simply love him, it is his staff that could be more compassionate and nicer to the patients . I find some very rude and cold . His staff is extremely rude on the phone , like you are really bothering them, they do not call you back either after leaving many messages .I love Dr Roye and want him for my surgery but because I need to go through his staff to get to him , I might have to choose another surgeon .

I really like Dr. Roye, he is nice and compassionate and he always listens and answers all the questions. His staff is not always very nice especially when I call them on the phone. I dread when I have to call to make an appointment.

Hi I am looking into the sleeve gastrectomy and I first saw Dr.roye in March 2012 I've already seen the psychologist and psychiatrist also went twice to the nutritionist once in April then in may and I have to see her again this month. What I'm waiting for is the appointment for the ekg and the bloodwork. Can someone please tell me how long it takes to have these two things done and have a surgery date? Thanks

When I first met Dr Roye I was very impressed, yes I do agree he is very straight and makes sure you understand everything in detail. I was very comfortable talking to him and had confidence in what he told me about the surgery. He is a compassionate, professional Dr,he makes you very comfortable with him. After surgery he was right there when I woke up to let me know everything went great, and also went right out to my husband to let him know the surgery was a success. There was and is nothing dont like about Dr Roye,he is awesome. And everytime I go see him since my surgery its like visiting a friend . As busy as he is he always takes time for conversation with you.I have to agree with a few others about office staff, the one that answers the phone i cant remember her name right off the top of my head rarely has compassion, she seems like your bothering her half the time, but dont give up just tell her you want to speak to the nurse practitioner,if she doesnt let you she will at least get an answer to your question. But overall I think Dr Roye is the greatest be comfortable having him for your surgeon, you wont be sorry. And dont be afraid when he tells you the risks because he will as will any other surgeon ,they have to,but feel safe with your life in his hands..... I did!!!!!

Dr. Roye was my first, and only choice to perform my band surgery. I find him to be compassionate, professional, knowledgeable and a really good cheerleader. He genuinely wants us to succeed... not just because he performed our surgeries, but because we are people that have a chance at a new life.

I find his office staff to be helpful, although sometimes harried. I imagine that cannot be helped in a practice his size.

I do not get to see him as often as I thought I would, and generally at this point meet with his nurse practitioners. I look at this as a good thing, however, because it means that I am problem free, and plus, his nurses are wonderful.

Any problem or question I have had was answered and treated with importance.

My surgery itself was problem free, and it helps to wake up to a surgeon that smiles at you and lets you know that he was taking care of you :)

My first impression was he was very honest. Did not offer to do the surgery until he knew what went wrong.
At first I thought he was a bit hard, but then I began to realize he was looking out for my best interest.
He places a huge emphasize on after care, nutrition, and support meetings. He went over all my risks, and made me very aware that a revision comes with a much higher morbidity then the original.
For me he was a good fit. I trusted him, I let him do what he does best, and I took his lead. I had numerous endoscopies, barium swallows, and many many other appointments, trying to place the finger on the problem.
My pouch was the size it was suppose to be, and he was not going to revise a perfectly goood pouch, He had to search to see my problem rested in the bypassed instestine. Now we go fix it.......

From my first meeting with Dr. Roye I felt comfortable. He was the image of what I expected in the Dr. I chose.

He was very informative, didn't rush any questions. When all the testing was done he approached me with great understanding and explained why I needed the surgery he was recommending. There is a warmth about him that is very calming.

I can't really say anything to negativity.

The staff seems somewhat overworked, and that
can be a bit of a problem.
