  • About Me

    After graduating from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Villanueva completed his general surgery training at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He was then chosen for a Minimally Invasive Bariatric and Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, a medical center internationally recognized as a leader in laparoscopic surgical expertise.  He was also co-author of several publications accepted for presentation at both national and international meetings.

    Dr. Villanueva has been actively practicing bariatric surgery since 2008.  He is pleased to return to North Carolina and the Carolinas HealthCare System as the newest member of Carolinas Weight Loss Surgery in Concord, NC.  He currently performs the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, and the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band.

    Dr. Villanueva is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
