Dr K is the greatest!!! He comes across as stern and talks a little fast. Don't be afraid to tell him to slow down. He's happy to do it. I don't think there is a surgeon out there that cares any more for their patients than Dr. K. He genuinely cares about your over all health and well being. He's an excellent surgeon that doesn't rush you out the hospital doors. If you tell him you're not ready to go home, he keeps you that extra day. I had to stay a day longer with my band and then again with my RNY. His staff got insurance approval with no problem.

He is an advocate for his patients and his staff goes the extra mile to make sure get to where you want to be with your health.
They need to update the info on this site. Dr. K did my band in 2007 and he was doing wls for years before that. So, he's been doing this way more than 5 years.

excellent Surgeon, thats why I chose him to do this. Now he is tough as nails and don't mince words with you. I do wish his bedside manner was a little nicer, but I'm doing well after surgery and it's all because of his knowledge and experience.
I would recommend him to anyone!

When I saw his seminar I was totally impressed with him.
When I met him in his office, that same feeling carried over. He really seemed to care.
In the hospital, he took the time to find out how I really felt and made sure I was taken care of.
When I started seeing him for my post-op visits, I started to feel that he may not have been listening to everything I was telling him about how I was feeling. He missed me telling him that I felt I was getting a urinary tract/bladder infection which I ended up going to the ER for. I was miserable until I got the antibiotics I should've gotten right away. After that, he has made a point of listening and asking more questions. Sometimes he can be hard to read, but I have learned as time has gone by.
Most of his office staff is very friendly. His main nurse was very nice to me pre-op and just shortly post-op but now she seems kind of like I am irritating her when I call if I have any kind of issue. It's kind of frustrating.
Dr Kemmerling emphasizes aftercare very strongly. If after you go through everything and possibly don't have insurance for further follow-up visits, they offer visits at a rate comparable to a normal office visit copay to allow everyone the opportunity to get the full benefit of aftercare.
When I had my pre-op visits Dr Kemmerling went over the risks/complications of surgery in detail with me. I had previously had a Nissan Fundoplication which is to take care of Acid Reflux/ Gerd. Because of this, he had to undo that surgery and then do the RNY so my surgery was more complex than usual. I was aware of everything going in.
I would rate Dr Kemmerling as a top surgeon in surgical competence, beside manner and aftercare.

Actually there is a test. I felt there was nothing I didn't know.

I think both are great, but surgical competence is more important.

Dr. Kemmerling seems very nice,has a sense of humour but also serious at the same time. I'm still early in my journey w/ him.

I thought he was great! He explained everything during the seminar and at my appointments. He can get testy if you dont follow his orders though.LOLrnthe after care is great anything i have needed i was told. Information was very available and given in abundance. I would suggest him to my friend and family.

Dr. Kemmerling did an absolutely amazing job with my surgery. He is a great surgeon, and I would highly recommend him to anyone thinking about getting WLS!

I would really recommend Dr Kemmerling. He really takes the time to know you and helps you figure out what's right for you. Weight loss is different for everyone. He doesn't just fill your band without talking to you and finding out what is best for YOU. rnHis office staff is very professional and friendly. Appointment times are available in morning and afternoon hours. I've never had an issue scheduling appointments.

My first impression of Dr. Kemmerling was that he was kind of cold and not very talkative. His office staff are wonderful, very approachable, caring and friendly. rnDr. Kemmerling isn't cold, he's just not the most talkative person. If you have questions he's happy to sit there and answer them all for you. He does emphasize aftercare as it is vital to a succesful outcome and I think that's very important. He encourages you to call with any questions or concerns.rnDr. Kemmerling thoroughly explained all the surgical risks and made sure that I understood everything prior to the surgery.rnI would have to say that Dr. Kemmerling's surgical competence is better than his bedside manner but I like him very much and am happy I choose him.

I fell very lucky to have found Dr. K. This is a very serious operation. His staff was also very informational and lots of fun.rn Dr. K. took the time to answer everything I need to know.rn I am going to have surgury on May 22nd 2008, 8am . I feel I am in the best hands and have choosen the right options for myself.rn I feel very informed and know they are there to help me with any other information I will need after surgury.rn Will update as time goes on.
