Dr. Michael Nusbaum, Bariatric Surgeon Michael J. Nusbaum, MD, FACS, FASMBS earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine & Dentistry and completed his residency and internship at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, listed with the Directory of Board Certified Medical Specialists, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS). He is a proud member of the American Medical Association, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. In 1998, Dr. Nusbaum founded the Laparoscopic Bariatric Program at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and was the Chief of Surgery there for over 10 years. During his time there, he recognized the need for comprehensive care in bariatrics and helped pioneer a comprehensive approach to bariatric care that included surgeons, metabolic specialists, dietitians, nutritionists, psychologists, and exercise physiologists. Dr. Nusbaum was also the founder of the Obesity and Weight Management Center of The Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center. He currently serves as the Surgical Director of the Metabolic Medicine and Weight Control Center at Morristown Medical Center and is the founder of the Obesity Treatment Centers of New Jersey. Dr. Nusbaum performs bariatric surgery in New Jersey at Morristown Medical Center and the Saint Barnabas Medical Center, both locations are Bariatric Centers of Excellence.
