    Dr. Stewart was born and raised in a small desert town in north central Nevada. He completed medical school at Loma Linda University in Southern California in 1989. He completed his specialty training in general surgery in 1994 at Loma Linda University Medical Center and then did advanced training in trauma surgery and surgical critical care in Los Angeles. Dr. Stewart then entered the US Army for a 5 year obligation. Prior to coming to Ashland, he was on the teaching staff at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Besides his training and interest in trauma, he also has an interest in cancer surgery and for 3 years was the cancer program director at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. He is currently the chief of surgery and trauma at Ashland Community hospital and sits on the Area Trauma Advisory Board (ATAB). He is involved in a project to bring a cancer center to Ashland, and was the driving force behind the new bariatric services at Ashland Community Hospital. He is married to Dr. Tamara Stewart, MD, an emergency physician in Medford.
