A board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Marquez has received advanced training in laparoscopic surgery, including laparoscopic colectomies, Nissen fundoplications and weight loss surgery procedures. She employs the latest techniques in the surgical treatment of breast diseases including stereotactice breast biopsy and sentinel node biopsy techniques.
Dr. Marquez performs gastric banding (Lap-Band and Realize Band), gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, StomaphyX, and revision procedures for the treatment of chronic obesity. After a rigorous examination of her surgical outcomes and practice, she was awarded the distinction of being an ASMBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence Surgeon.
Education and Professional Associations
Dr. Marquez graduated with highest honors in psychology and chemistry from the University of Texas at El Paso. She received her Medical Degree from Baylor Medical School in Houston and was a surgical resident at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Marquez was an assistant professor in surgery at Louisiana State University in New Orleans where she managed the surgical oncology clinic. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Breast Disease, the Texas Medical Association. She is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
Dr. Marquez also serves as a volunteer for the Breast Cancer Resource Center and has served on nunberous hospital committees, including serving as chairperson of the Department of Surgery at Round Rock Medical Center.
